Halloween 5 Mask Question

Hey everybody! I was just hoping someone could help me figure out this Halloween 5 predicament . So I know for sure that there are 2 versions ( technically the same mask) of the H5 mask that we see on screen- The mask with the nose appliance, and the mask before the appliance was added. The only problem here is that when watching H5, I have never been able to tell the difference between the two masks. I don’t know if it’s just my eyes, or if you only see the switch a couple times, but I would like help seeing the two versions of the mask. If someone, even multiple people, could post pictures of the H5 mask on screen with the nose appliance and without the nose appliance, I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks guys  Have a great day :drinkers:

I think the one without the nose appliance wasn’t used. They put it on at the start of filming I think. But when the filming ended the nose applianced on one of the masks was taken off.

This is Shank’s own copy that stands alone on the table, not the original. The others are self explanatory. Hope this clears things up a bit.

Interesting! Would love to get this confirmed.

Great pictures, thank you! It helps a little but the whole situation is a pretty unclear. Also, that mask on the table is a SSN Shanks. After a while, Don Shank’s Hero mask started to deteriorate so bad later that he could no longer bring it to conventions with him. In its place, he put a SSN Shanks replica .

Yeah you’re telling me! Lol I searched for a good half hour, there’s a thread on here I’ll find the link to that about sums it up. The pictures though, are just about non existent.

Shank’s H5

There’s a video on Youtube of the mask getting restored

This thread is filled with just about everything you could want to know about the H5 mask. It starts out regarding remakes, but about halfway through the first page it starts talking about the originals and the apliances. Enjoy!

I believe the nose was added later as Ryn stated above since the director wanted a different look. Some one told me this awhile back whos close with the production crew.
I do think the mask Don had restored is the river scene mask.

Thank you all for the amazing replies! But again, I was wondering about what we see on screen, not what we see in pictures taken after filming.

That’s very interesting actually. I’ve heard that as well as that Shanks broke his nose on set and needed a larger nose appliance.

The nose break had nothing to do with the nose extension actually as you can see the original nose is still there after the 2nd nose came off of the Hero in the pics above.
If that were the reason, the fX guy would cut a hole open in the original pull

Wow! Very interesting. Well, ya learn something new everyday. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

Sorry for the multiple posts but I have just one more question! Did the appliance include lips, or was it just a nose?

Edit: ANOTHER QUESTION, MY APOLOGIES

So would this be correct: the most accurate mask that could possibly be achieved is a SSN revenge (from movie mold before nose appliance) with an added nose appliance from a SSN Shanks (say I cut it off. Which for the record I would never do ), since it was cast from Don’s hero nose appliance?

The nostrils are the key to finding the difference. Don’t know the particular scene in which it is shown so I can’t find pictures. But, I’m assuming it’s earlier in the film. Reference the pic I put up, and how it talks about the extension being ripped off meaning the nose piece because the only other extension that could be used would be for the neck, and that is not featured on this mask. You can clearly see the nostrils are flared out ( larger holes like usual), and also that the nose is more flat unlike the rest. If you watch the movie, particularly if you look at Loomis laying on top of Michael with the chains around him, you’ll see Michaels nose does not look like this. Also around the middle of the film his nose does not look like this from the research I’ve done. So I know this doesn’t exactly give you a pin point time of when the change occurs, but it certainly does help narrow it down to early in the film.

The nose appliance did feature a mouth piece from what I’m understanding. The article I posted mentioned that quite a few times I’m 99 percent positive. And yes you are correct about the accuracy of the mask you’re mentioning.

I’m still gonna try and find some pics for sure cause now this is bugging me

there were 2 appliances added before filming. one for the mouth and one for the nose. but this only applies to shanks stunt mask. (this was confirmed when SSN restored the mask for Don Shanks, and its where they got the appliances for their h5 signature mask)

the hero mask only had the nose appliance for definite… there is a photograph from the dvd showing a photo of the hero mask with the missing nose appliance.

Ahhhhh ok. Makes sense now. The picture I posted shows what you are saying about the hero mask.

I’ve been studying this mask for around 27 years… think about that… haha! 27 years… and I still can’t exactly pin down what makes this mask so hard to recreate.
