Halloween 78 film vs Curtis Richards Novelization..

I’m sure most of you have read and/or own the Curtis Richards Novelization of Halloween. Although the book follows the movie pretty closely there are some major differences. Differences with character description and some story as well. How do you feel the novelization compares to the film? Do you like some of the differences in the book better? Or prefer the screenplay the way we see it in the film itself? Would love to hear your thoughts…:jack_o_lantern:

The film is way better in my opinion. I don’t like the way he changed the description of Myers’ appearance, giving him an unnecessary Samhain backstory, and even going as far as to describe what he was feeling in certain moments from the film, like watching Annie change her shirt, not to mention how he added needless gore to kills from the film that were far more simple and effective. It’s almost as if he brought a sleeziness to the film, long before Rob Zombie did.

Yeaaaaa I thought the added gore was unnecessary and he gave the shape a utility belt which definitely didn’t work for me either lol

the novelization was awesome i thought… Loved the stories in the beginning and especially love the part where michael trick or treats at his own house…Halloween II novel was sick too…theyre different perspectives and i view them as that…sort of an alternate halloween…The stories with michael in the sanitarium were awesome too…i just read it again recently!

Honestly yes!! The sanitarium stories were great . It really showed the fear he caused even as a child and how cunning he was. Bobbing tor apples was great lol also the suggestions of how he was able to drive a car was also good…I didn’t like the voices in the head stuff and the change of the shaped appearance but it definitely had some other good stuff in it …

I love the novels. They almost appear to be full of deleted scenes, although we know the author was just trying to fill in the blanks.

Yeah cause imagine that in movie form the voices would be super odd…but i liked it for the novel just probably wouldnt of worked in a movie!

Yes i agree with that, I also like in the novel how it’s explained when Annie is driving with Laurie to the Wallace and Doyle houses Annie notices the Station wagon tailgating the car and dosen’t mention it to Laurie because it would freak her out . Obviously in the movie she looks obviously to the car a couple feet behind her lol

What is one thing from the novel youd like to see in a movie? maybe for a flashback?

U mean in regards to Halloween and the Novelization?

yeah like put something from novel into movie scene

If I had to pick one thing it would be the mayhem that Michael was causing in the sanitarium when he was a boy. :jack_o_lantern:

yeah thats a great choice, I’d go with that but think im in the minority cause id take the whole pre story with little michael’s night on 1963…also the grandmother and mom dialouge

Oh wow ok

Anyone know where you can read the book for free? Can’t find it anywhere

What changes did they make to the appearance of The Shape? Other than the utility belt (???) I read about in the thread…

The mask is not the Shatner kirk mask in the novel ,its white but it has alot I’d differences .I believe there was bluish color added around the eyes and I believe like a zig zag scar on the cheek

I agree with SamLoomis78, never thought it jived with the actual film and the canonical Shape/Michael. Much like the H6 p-cut or RZH movies it’s alternate universe stuff that I’d never want for the actual canon but is interesting on its’ own.
