Amazing experience, to watch these nowadays. I love my blu-ray copies, but watching them on VHS is so much fun. It’s the way I watched these movies for years! For some reason, I don’t think I’ll hold the same feelings toward standard definition DVDs in ten years.
I’m watching an ex-rental copy of Halloween 4 right now, and it’s just perfectly worn in.
Absolutely. I know what you mean. VHS tapes have that “vintage” feeling and add to the vibe of the film.
Funny that you mention Halloween 4 on vhs. That’s the first movie that i think of whenever vhs tapes are brought up! It was one of the first vhs rentals i made when i was younger. Because it was rated R, the video store wouldn’t rent it out to kids and they were strict about that policy (so that meant i could hardly rent any horror movies). Until an older cousin of mine got a job there and let me rent it out. After H4 i rented H5 and H6.
Back to H4, i swear that the sequence right before where Mikey gets shot down the mineshaft is a bit different on vhs than on dvd. It’s probably my memory, but I remember the vhs showing how Myers got up to grab Jamie (after she had approached him and grabbed his hand). I kept rewinding that part because it was funny the way he got up, it looked like a dummy or a mannequin being pulled by strings.
I agree…besides the childhood feel to it, which is fun memories. But, because of the old look it gives, the effects are more believable. When I watch them now on Blu…you can really see how fake/bad some effects are! Just as if any of you watched porn on blu-ray (you know what I mean)…some things are better left a little more shadowy.
I think you are right Frenzy! Thats how I remembered it as well!
