My ends rehaul process open for tips and advice
What i’ve done so far on my mask. I’m like the look a lot right now. I did a off whitish base and then some reddish brown around the hair and burnt side. Then i did a blackish brown wash and started to wipe some of it off. This is all I have done so far
Im still planning on bringing some more of the white back with dry brushing and then also detailing the cracks and burns more. Also gonna add some more browns and greens with dry brushing. I’ve been using a sponge for about everything
Looking good man. Think you’re on the right track. You basically said all the things ypu need to do to it . Bringing back alot of the white is the only thing I’m questioning let me take some more genders here.
You’ll have to take another photo under cold light, the lamp is too warm to pick out mask colours or whatever the light is
Well you can get new hair on etsy, what green are you using? It’s not right but ya it looks gnarly . Ill give some more pointers in a bit, think you are too yellow on the unburned side . The details are still there so thats good you could go over them with a fine brush think that will be your last step though. Just give me a bit to get my day going here.
@Bartman @matt.makes.replicas feel free to give some pointers .
I’ll give you some circled highlights just busy ATM but this should help. The dried blood colour you have under the nose and by the eyebrow is close. Use this same colour for the top of the forehead you are a bit too dark in that section on the unburned side.
The green is a mixture of a pretty light green with some black and i think red and yellows. I’ve just been mixing colors as i go so I don’t have like exact names. I assume i can just dry brush my white back overtop the unburned side to get it closer? And for hair, should i just buy any pack of crepe hair? I think i just need enough for the hairline
Ya you could just get a small bit of crepe for that . Well you don’t need to mix many colours, just the brown and red for the dried blood spots. You need raw umber, burnt umber , raw sienna , olive green black. As for the white it’s tricky to say, gunna take some blending, and maybe dry brushthe white so that you skip over cracks and stuff you want those to be darker so they pop. Very little paint on brush and you can dry brush by gliding over with a flat makeup brush (flat regular brush will work, but tends to leave brush marks) or you can “dust” by again using very little paint and go back and forth very quickly and lightly with a flat brush or makeup brush over the mask.
These area here are Raw umber there’s other browns as well but the main is raw umber it’s OK you have that green there you can paint over it with the brown , it has olive green and raw umber in the ear as well.
Right by the big split on the side of the head where ive circled is dark brownish/blackish, other two areas need raw umber, but just for the cracks above the lips in that section.
These white parts are a watered down olive green.
Thanks for all the advice! I’ll update again once i begin working on it again. Few questions. When applying all the colors you mentioned, should i just dry brush it on like normal? And for watered down olive green, just actually mix that color with water? Or should it be mixed with the white
No don’t mix it with white. Yes you want watered down olive green another way to do tt is to just paint olive green on with no water and dab away excess with baby wipes immediately you’ll have to judge what to leave when wiping.
You’ll want to focus on getting those cracks back on both sides before this however as you need those darker so they pop when you put green over them . The you have cream boot polish ? Dark brown and black you’ll need. Best way to get some stuff back cuz even when it dries it can be wiped away with rubbing alcohol or baby wipes if you make a mistake. You would use the method I described above by dabbing it on but you can let the polish dry completely and wipe away gently over cracks to get that detail back . Let me know when you plan to start again we can just take it section by section, so you don’t get overwhelmed
Here watch some videos to see some techniques and different ways to go about things. Just familiarize your self to help me communicate some stuff , none of these are set in stone or anything meaning that you have to do it one way or the other but will show you options.
Its definitely not far off, I’d say its a good color. It looks the most green in the comparison pictures below, but it changes in different lighting from the pictures I have. I guess its just preference
Looking awesome so far! I do agree with @Looming_Doom though, work on the cracks and really trying to emphasise them.
The green on the burnt side looks really nasty! Definitely gives off the sewer vibes. For mine on the damaged side specifically, I used a mix of yellow ochre and raw umber, dry brushed onto a brown base to make it look like the colour of raw latex. Then I went over and added some black and green details (and some dried blood of course!).
Again, as had been said before, try to bring out the white on the good side. The yellow there makes any white on the burnt side look very stark in comparison and draws a line straight down the middle (which is what you want to avoid). But the actual shape of the burn and white parts are great!
Hairing the mask is surprisingly easy, just finding the right colour can be the biggest pain! There is a video that I followed which I found on this forum. I’ll try and get the link and send it over.
Theres nothing really that can go wrong with the ends mask. Make it to where you’re happy, and where you’re not, you can just go over it again. Once the mould starts going on, it will bring it all together!
Here’s the hairing video that I followed ![]()
Appreciate all the help everyone! Right now Im waiting to get some boot polish so i can try that on the cracks, but in the meantime i’m just gonna adjust the white side and some of that burnt sides colors. I ordered some medium brown crepe hair on etsy and am gonna see how that goes later
No problem dude , any questions just ask away!
