READ In short, this thread teaches you how to download these “hard-to-find” fan edits for movies such as Halloween (and other popular movies / franchises) in a fairly detailed explanation.
I want to start this off with a message that is posted everywhere around fan edits and on fan edit websites. Technically, these fan edits are copyright infringement, since they take a movie and post it online for free. It does not “legally” count as fair use. Though today we live in a day and age where everyone ends up breaking the law by streaming or download movies, I am still going to include the fact that you are not “allowed” to download these movies unless you OWN the base movie.
Now that that’s out of the way, these fan edits can be easily found (their artwork, changes from original, and information aswell) on https://www.fanedit.org/
On that site, there are no download links to these fan edits. It can often be very tough to find them, since they aren’t as popular as when they came out years ago. Often times, if the 1 download link or file you found doesn’t work, then you’re tough out of luck because there is NOT many options for finding these online. To download the actual movies, there’s a few steps you have to go through. Firstly, go to http://fanedit.info/fanedits/ and search for the fan edit you are looking for. If you don’t find the fan edit that you saw on fanedit.org, you’re almost always out of luck. Anyways, let’s say you found your fan edit. Great! Download the file using the icon on the right side of the name, and you will get a small .zip file. This zip file will include a readme file and a .dlc file. To open these files, you must go to http://dcrypt.it/ and select the “upload container” tab and upload the .dlc or the file that contains the download links. Once uploaded, the site will then dump a list of file hosting website links for you. Unfortunately, these fan editors enjoy uploading their movies in about a trillion parts. The longest I’ve seen was 30 parts. Also a downside, these file hosting websites usually have download limits, as in you can only download so much data before asking to wait 5 hours or pay to upgrade your transfer limit. Instead of doing this, follow the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dql0KjrzWWg as it teaches you how to download a free safe vpn to change your IP address which tricks the website into thinking you’re a different computer, therefore allowing you to have your transfer quota back. Depending on how big the movie is, you might have to switch your IP more than once, but it is unlikely.
Once you have all the parts, right click on the file ending in .part1 and extract it using Winrar (can be downloaded free here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm). Once you have done this, you should be good to go! Some fan edits have many files and are set up to be burned onto a dvd and even have their own custom menu screen, others just have a simple .mp4 video. Earlier today I had found a fan edit I enjoyed but it failed extraction due to it being “corrupt”. It is worth trying the possible solutions shown in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj8Qx_1lUMA). The first one usually seems to work.
If you are not willing to go through all of this, I have 3 of them downloaded already, and 2 of them are in simple single file format, and I would willingly upload them on a file hosting website in 1 part (if possible) if I get many requests.
