Halloween Fan Edits

READ In short, this thread teaches you how to download these “hard-to-find” fan edits for movies such as Halloween (and other popular movies / franchises) in a fairly detailed explanation.

I want to start this off with a message that is posted everywhere around fan edits and on fan edit websites. Technically, these fan edits are copyright infringement, since they take a movie and post it online for free. It does not “legally” count as fair use. Though today we live in a day and age where everyone ends up breaking the law by streaming or download movies, I am still going to include the fact that you are not “allowed” to download these movies unless you OWN the base movie.

Now that that’s out of the way, these fan edits can be easily found (their artwork, changes from original, and information aswell) on https://www.fanedit.org/

On that site, there are no download links to these fan edits. It can often be very tough to find them, since they aren’t as popular as when they came out years ago. Often times, if the 1 download link or file you found doesn’t work, then you’re tough out of luck because there is NOT many options for finding these online. To download the actual movies, there’s a few steps you have to go through. Firstly, go to http://fanedit.info/fanedits/ and search for the fan edit you are looking for. If you don’t find the fan edit that you saw on fanedit.org, you’re almost always out of luck. Anyways, let’s say you found your fan edit. Great! Download the file using the icon on the right side of the name, and you will get a small .zip file. This zip file will include a readme file and a .dlc file. To open these files, you must go to http://dcrypt.it/ and select the “upload container” tab and upload the .dlc or the file that contains the download links. Once uploaded, the site will then dump a list of file hosting website links for you. Unfortunately, these fan editors enjoy uploading their movies in about a trillion parts. The longest I’ve seen was 30 parts. Also a downside, these file hosting websites usually have download limits, as in you can only download so much data before asking to wait 5 hours or pay to upgrade your transfer limit. Instead of doing this, follow the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dql0KjrzWWg as it teaches you how to download a free safe vpn to change your IP address which tricks the website into thinking you’re a different computer, therefore allowing you to have your transfer quota back. Depending on how big the movie is, you might have to switch your IP more than once, but it is unlikely.

Once you have all the parts, right click on the file ending in .part1 and extract it using Winrar (can be downloaded free here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm). Once you have done this, you should be good to go! Some fan edits have many files and are set up to be burned onto a dvd and even have their own custom menu screen, others just have a simple .mp4 video. Earlier today I had found a fan edit I enjoyed but it failed extraction due to it being “corrupt”. It is worth trying the possible solutions shown in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj8Qx_1lUMA). The first one usually seems to work.

If you are not willing to go through all of this, I have 3 of them downloaded already, and 2 of them are in simple single file format, and I would willingly upload them on a file hosting website in 1 part (if possible) if I get many requests.

I found it

What are the differences in the edits you have downloaded?

https://ifdb.fanedit.org/ This website is the IMDB of fanedits, hense the name. Most large fanedits are on there, and have a synopsis, changes / edits list, artwork downloads, runtime, what movies and scenes it inlcudes, etc. But I will save you some time and give a few examples. (These are going to be copy pasted from their site)
Halloween 5: Thornless Edition -
_- The mysterious “Man in Black” is now completely gone from the film.

  • Many outdoor scenes have been color corrected so it appears more like October.
  • The shot of Loomis holding Jamie during the Halloween 4 recap at the beginning of this film is removed, as this contradicts the events of Halloween 4.
  • There is no longer a Thorn tattoo on Michael’s wrist.
  • When Michael rises up at the hermit’s home, actor Don Shanks’ face is now more obscured.
  • The “Clownish Cops” are no longer clownish, nor does silly clownish music play when they’re around.
  • Billy has been toned down, and he no longer stutters.
  • The Myers house exterior shots have been replaced with shots of the house from Halloween 1. Some other shots are cropped to disguise that it’s a different house.
  • When Loomis first visits the Myers house, several shots where he looks at the laundry chute have been removed so it’s not as “in your face” in setting up the Jamie chute scene later.
  • When Tina is looking for Rachel at her house, new music has been added.
  • Sheriff Meeker is no longer referred to as a “Sergeant.”
  • Billy doesn’t “translate” for Jamie as much during the “Cookie Woman” scene.
  • A few Tina moments are toned down to make her less annoying.
  • Jamie’s begging of Tina not to leave has been toned down, as Tina’s ignoring of her pleas hurts her character.
  • Mikey isn’t as much of a jerk. He doesn’t berate Samantha and Tina, flip off a passing police car, or call Spitz an idiot.
  • Spitz’s cackling laugh has been toned down.
  • The barn scene has been tightened, including the overlong sex scene with Spitz.
  • Spitz doesn’t yell “Boo!” when they enter the barn.
  • A shot of Spitz about to throw hay at Tina has been removed, so it’s more of a surprise when he throws it.
  • When Spitz pretends to stab Samantha (dressed as Michael), the scene as been reworked so the prank is not as telegraphed to the audience.
  • Some incorrectly flipped shots of Michael chasing Jamie with the car have been corrected.
  • The shots of Jamie’s smiling relief when the car crashes have been removed (Jamie knows better).
  • Michael no longer sheds a tear in the attic.
  • Loomis’s hysterics while beating Michael with the board have been toned down.
  • When Michael is in jail, his mask has been changed and recolored to fleshtone so it looks like he’s not wearing his mask. The cell’s bars blocking his face helps with the illusion.
  • Instead of the Man In Black shooting a machine gun and freeing Michael from jail, the scene has been recut to imply Michael broke free on his own._

This is a fairly small edit, just removing everything related to the thorn curse and a few general fixups. Here is another for the fanedit titled “The Myers Family” which is a fanedit of Halloween 1 & 2 (RZ remakes) (it compiles them both together nicely and such)

*Daeg Faerch is now the only “young Michael” Chase Wright Vanek is nowhere to be seen.

*Everything about Laurie having a breakdown regarding the events two years earlier is now gone cause the whole “shit-went-down-in-Haddonfield-two-years-earlier-aka-second-half-of-the-remake” is gone (though Laurie does indeed have a meltdown, but that because she turns into Michael Myers’ mind state)

*The whole movie is now in the aspect ratio: 1.85:1 (that of H2) instead of H1 footage being 2.35:1 and H2 footage 1.85:1 I also added some grain to the H1 footage.

*The classic Halloween score is now completely gone (H2 doesn’t feature any so I had to choose between inserting some or change the score in H1 where the Halloween score does exist)

Anybody have links etc…for Halloween fan edits, especially H1-H2 . Also need Samhain Cut of Halloween. Cheers Lee
