The best true franchise starter battle:
Halloween(1978), effortlessly

The best 2nd sequel:
Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter

The best black sheep in each franchise:
Halloween III:Season of the Witch, easily

The best return to the basics:
Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers, baaarely

The best 2nd follow up to the baics:
Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood

The best general film:
Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan

The best mythology changer:
Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers

Halloween wins everything for me. It’s creepier, the themes are more iconic, and there’s always a real story involved. (I’m excluding Ressurection)
The Friday films are just cheap knockoffs to me. I can’t even watch any of them, I get so bored.

Halloween (1978) is the best movie. The Friday the 13th franchise is the better franchise. Friday the 13th is at its core schlock entertainment and the franchise does a good job of maintaining that throughout the series. These are not good movies but fun for what they are. Halloween, the original, is a masterpiece in suspense/horror. I put it right up there with Psycho. The sequels are just so underwhelming and a huge drop from the source material. They are just poor copies of the Friday movies and are far less entertaining. It’s impossible to watch them and not compare them to the original. The Friday franchise on the other hand has no great film in the series. Each film has its moments but it’s the sum of its parts that makes the franchise special.

I personally cant compare either to each other. I do know I love both franchises, and for very different reasons.
Halloween is more serious, dramatic. Friday the 13ths are plain fun.

the friday the 13th movies are goofy and corny. there are a few that are good but for the most part its pretty unwatchable.

Rethinking this,

  1. Halloween 1978
  2. Friday The 13th 4. Halloween II has a good beginning, a great ending, and a middle two-thirds nobody cares about and which drags eternally. Friday 4 is fantastic throughout.
  3. Halloween 3. A New Beginning is absolutely terrible despite the recent re-evaluation!
  4. I struggle with this. H4 is a great, workman like slasher… But Jason Lives is channeling some early Tim Burton vibes in terms of its gothic aesthetic and humor. Jason Lives is the better movie, though Return Of Michael Myers is a better slasher film. Friday The 13th Part 6
  5. Friday The 13th Part 7. Halloween 5 sucks. The New Blood is solid.
  6. Jason Takes Manhattan. Resurrection is hot garbage. Manhattan isn’t much better, but it’s better enough.
  7. Jason Goes To Hell is funnier and has better gore and more memorable characters. Halloween 6 has a better atmosphere and better acting. Halloween 6 by a sliver, but I really like both of them and think they’re underrated. Jason Goes To Hell is my third or fourth favorite Friday movie, and Halloween 6 my fourth or fifth favorite Halloween.

Let’s throw Leatherface and Feeddy into the mix

The best true franchise starter battle:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) vs. Halloween(1978) Vs. Friday the 13th Part III vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street

The best 2nd sequel:

Halloween II(1981) vs. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Part II vs. Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street Part II: Freddy’s Revenge

The best black sheep in each franchise:

Halloween III: Season Of The Witch vs. Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street Part II: Freddy’s Revenge vs. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
.
The best return to the basics:

Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street III: The Dream Warriors vs. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III

The best 2nd follow up to the basics:

Halloween 5:The Revenge of Michael Myers Vs. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street V: The Dream Child (there really is no TCM equivalent hwre)

The best general film:
Halloween Resurrection vs. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master vs. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

The best mythology changer:
Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday vs. Wes Craven’s New Nightmare vs. Leatherface (2017)

Best reboot:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) vs. Halloween (2007) vs. Friday The 13th (2009) vs. A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

Halloween - 2
Friday The 13th - 3
A Nightmare On Elm Street - 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 1

Objectively, Friday The 13th isn’t a very good film series. Halloween and NOES should blownit away every time, and the best individual installments do. But it’s really consistent. There isn’t a huge quality gap between Friday 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9, while the other franchises are all over the map. Friday has nothing nearly as great as Halloween 78 and ANOES 84, but nothing as truly dire as Resurrection or Freddy’s Dead or TCM 4

I just can’t get into Friday the 13th, I recognize that when it came out it must’ve been a great movie to bring your friends or gf to watch and have a laugh but it just doesn’t do it for me.

Part 1 was the most interesting to me because I’ve enjoyed the twist (but that’s because I just assumed that Jason was gonna be the main villain) yet I could see how it basically copied H1 without the same impact.
Part 2 felt pointless to me, Part 3 was slightly better but I just didn’t find Jason to be intimidating.

Halloween’s on another level, Myers has a certain aura of unpredictability and evilness that just can’t be compared, and the entire mythos around a kid just… being pure evil is frightening
There have been some if not many fuck ups that moved the franchise away from this concept (like most of the sequels trying to give michael a motive to kill) but I think even the most mediocre movies are more interesting than Friday’s best ones

Friday pt.4 is a fking classic imo🏆

most of the friday the 13th movies are corny as fuck.

They’re supposed to be. I watch Fridays for an entirely different reason than Halloweens.

You’re not wrong, at least for some of the entries. I think that’s what makes some of the series great though hahaha.

What comes to mind is that Jame Bond-ish intro to VI especially, even though I love the touch.

The Friday movies are typically more watchable than the Halloween films in the sense of being more enjoyable.

JGTH sucks, but it’s so much fun. Same with Jason X. Jason Lives is fun. Manhattan has fun parts.

Halloween 5 is a slogfest. So are the Zombie movies.I

In my opinion these are all beautiful movies. I’m beyond grateful that this happened in my life time. Friday the 13th is on its own in my opinion. It’s a part of the horror 80’s classics. Now that being said I’m sorry but I have to give Halloween 1,2 maybe 3 lol which is awesome as well perfect for the time of Halloween. Nothing can ever compare to Halloween. Beyond genuine and genius to name the movie Halloween. Especially around that time of year. Can’t ever be replaced.

I only really like Halloween 1&2 (originals) but I really like Friday 1-6.
