Halloween franchise Vs. Friday the 13th franchise

Which is the better franchise overall.(The first two Friday the 13th films will not be counted in the battle)

Here’s a starter but also come up with your own ways of determinating which is the best:(I’ll start the discussion with film battles)

The best true franchise starter battle:
Halloween(1978) Vs. Friday the 13th Part III

The best 2nd sequel:
Halloween II(1981) vs. Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter

The best black sheep in each franchise:
Halloween III:Season of the Witch Vs. Friday the 13th:A New Beginning

The best return to the basics:
Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Lives:Friday the 13th Part VI

The best 2nd follow up to the baics:
Halloween 5:The Revenge of Michael Myers Vs. Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood

The best general film:
Halloween Resurrection vs. Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan

The best mythology changer:
Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday

Now it’s all up to you. I prefer Halloween I think Friday the 13th is good in all but it has more lackluster films in the franchise.

Halloween(1978) Vs. Friday the 13th Part III
HALLOWEEN (but Part III is my favorite Friday movie easily!)

The best 2nd sequel:
Halloween II(1981) vs. Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter
Halloween II

The best black sheep in each franchise:
Halloween III:Season of the Witch Vs. Friday the 13th:A New Beginning
Halloween III

The best return to the basics:
Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Lives:Friday the 13th Part VI
Halloween 4

The best 2nd follow up to the baics:
Halloween 5:The Revenge of Michael Myers Vs. Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood
Halloween 5…BARELY

The best general film:
Halloween Resurrection vs. Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan
Both SUCK!!! But Resurrection is so bad I may actually favor Part VIII

The best mythology changer:
Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday
Halloween 6

Overall in general with both franchise, Halloween has a better quality of films. Even the Halloween films at their worst are still better than the Friday films. I find allot of the friday films almost unwatchable, with Halloween there is something magical about it. And the quality and the interaction between Michael and Dr Loomis cannot be matched

Can’t watch anything after Halloween III…I feel they lost their Halloween spirit so to speak without Carpenter and Hill. I will watch Rob Zombies Halloween II because it does not follow the predictable Halloween norms that started with Halloween 4. Rob’s Halloween II is great at being just what it is…not predictable.

Can’t watch any of the Friday the 13th’s after Part VIII; New Line messed up the series. I will watch the Friday the 13th remake…it’s fun for what it is.

If a choice is on TV between the 2, depending on the Halloween’s, I will watch them first but anything after Halloween III vs Friday’s parts 1 thru 8…clear choice Friday’s win hands down.

The best true franchise starter battle:
Halloween(1978) Vs. Friday the 13th Part III
HalloweeN (1978). Though, don’t get me wrong, Part III is my favorite out of the Friday films.

The best 2nd sequel:
Halloween II(1981) vs. Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter
HalloweeN II. A great follow-up to a great movie.

The best black sheep in each franchise:
Halloween III:Season of the Witch Vs. Friday the 13th:A New Beginning
Season of the Witch. It’s honestly not a bad movie, despite not having Myers as a key character. If it had done better, it would have been interesting to see what other Halloween ideas Carpenter would have come up with for the franchise.

The best return to the basics:
Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Lives:Friday the 13th Part VI
Return of Michael Myers. After Part IV, the Friday movies start getting campy.

The best 2nd follow up to the baics:
Halloween 5:The Revenge of Michael Myers Vs. Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood
Revenge of Michael Myers. But just barely. It only wins out because telekinesis is a really really bad plot point.

The best general film:
Halloween Resurrection vs. Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan
Jason Takes Manhattan. Rez is the… ugh… shudders, it’s like the Jason X of the Halloween movies. At least Jason Takes Manhattan is half-way entertaining.

The best mythology changer:
Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday
Curse. There’s no competition.

HALLOWEEN hands down but FRIDAY 13th 3 is probably one of if not the best of the jason series.

HALLOWEEN 2 definitely. Although I did really love FRIDAY 13TH FINAL CHAPTER, it had a lot going for it.

HALLOWEEN 3 again hands down. But only because F13th A NEW BEGINNING was just so poor…A jason copycat! What a cop out.

Deffo for me a tie between HALLOWEEN 4 and F13TH 6. I did enjoy H4 but I’ve never really liked that mask and apart from the opening (which was great) the movie lacked the fear factor. F13th part 6 was deffo one of my faves of the series so gotta be a tie there.

Actually preferred F13th part 7 A nEW BLOOD to HALLOWEEN 5. H5 to me was just crud and although F13th 7 had a dire plot Jason never looked meaner.

Deffo favour F13th 8 over HALLOWEEN ressurection, no contest at all. Manhattan had some pretty cool deaths whilst ressurection was just full of people no one gave a s*** about (the only important person died at the start)

As for the best mythology changer…HALLOWEEN 6 wins. JASON GOES TO HELL just didn’t seem or feel like a real jason film.

Better Franchise Starter:
Halloween (1978)

Better 2nd Sequel:
The Final Chapter

Better Black Sheep:
Halloween III

Better Return To Basics:
Halloween 4

Better Follow Up After The Return To Basics:
The New Blood

Better Part 8:
Jason Takes Manhattan

Better Mythology Changer:
Jason Goes To Hell

I’m a Friday the 13th fan to the bone, but Halloween has been winning me over in these past few years, so this was difficult for me.

Better Franchise Starter:
Halloween, it’s a classic and never gets old to me, you can’t beat it.

The best 2nd Sequel:
Friday IV, you gotta love Tommy Jarvis “Die Jason!”

Black Sheep:
Season of the Witch, if you take it as a film on its own, it’s a sweet idea.

Return:
Jason Lives, for some reason this movie has ALWAYS been a favorite for me.

General:
Jason Takes Manhattan, LOVE the tone of this movie, and easily my favorite of the series.

Mythology Changer:
Halloween 6, simply because JGTH is terrible.

Great topic!!! Let me start out by saying as a franchise Friday The 13th is the better one, mainly because HALLOWEEN has had so many restarts and reboots and remakes and retries. It’s difficult to expand on a story that needs to be centered entirely in one town to be believable. FRIDAY on the other hand is a teeny tiny bit more believable since it’s location is at a run down summer camp in the middle of the woods somewhere. And when things needed to e refreshed both franchises became corny and foolish. Anyways, I love HALLOWEEN that much more.

1.) The best true franchise starter is HALLOWEEN. It will go down in the Top 3 of horror movies ever made (along with The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

2.) The best 2nd sequel is a tough one. HII is nowhere near the original in quality but it has the same October atmosphere and ups the gore with a bit of suspense. Final Chapter is arguably the best in the series. If I were to pick between the two to watch tonight I’d pick FInal Chapter…but barely.

3.) The best black sheep between HIII and F5 is another toughie. Both used to piss me off when I was younger. HIII needed to be splintered off as it’s own movie. What was cool is the original team stayed together, whereas F5 had to follow Final Chapter woefully and pales in comparison. But it has grown on me. Still, HIII takes this one.

4.) The best return to the basics…I wouldn’t call Jason Lives a return to basics. it actually took Zombie Jason in another. direction and ended the Tommy Jarvis storyline with a bang. It is my favorite movie of the series. H4 on the other hand is a return to basics, and I might even say it’s the best sequel in the series. So because I don’t believe Jason Lives is a return to basics, H4 takes this one.

5.) The best second follow up to basics. H5 disappointed me so bad I thought it was the worst of the bunch at the time. That open ending with the Man in Black was horrendous. But it has grown on me. New Blood introduced us to Kane. No contest. New Blood wins this one.

6.) Best general film? Both are horrible. Resurrection had a good Michael with a good mask. Manhattan had Kane. Coin toss and I’m picking Resurrection.

7.) Best Mythology changer. Man, I waited 4 long years for JGTH to arrive as it was the first Friday film I’d seen in theaters. But that can’t hold a candle for the 6 years I waited to see H6. Unbelievably my high school career flew by without a HALLOWEEN movie coming out, or Mike Tyson fight for that matter. I was so rejoiced when both finally came out in theaters that I didn’t care about plot or storyline as long as I got to see them on the big screen. Because of the P-Cut of H6, I think I might have to go with that one.

Even though HALLOWEEN won 5-2 on this test, I still think FRIDAY THE 13TH is a better franchise with better films in the series. They win because they kept things simple with a simpler storyline. But The Shape is the GOAT and would outthink, outhustle, outslay and outsmart Jason any day!

Halloween was & is my favorite of the two but overall as a franchise Friday The 13th is the better franchise between the two. F13 had more continuity with each movie & it seems the people behind F13 projects ACTUALLY CARED about F13 fan base & Jason Voorhees character & storyline. You can see when you watch documentaries about F13 the importance of Jason & what he means to the franchise. Its just not the same with Michael & Halloween sad to say.

I’m going to go against the grain here and say that in my opinion, the F13 and Halloween franchises should not be compared, and here’s why…they try to achieve completely different things. F13 is a franchise that’s more fun, cheesy, over the top…it’s all about the blood, gore, the kills, the nudity, the body count. How many people can Jason kill, you’re cheering him on…then, you have the Halloween franchise.
Halloween is a franchise that is more subtle, a bit more “mature”, dark, and “classy”, if you will. It’s more about the fear associated with Michael Myers, “the shape”, pure evil in the form of a man in a mask. The Halloween franchise has more mood and atmosphere with the lighting and music for instance.
I like both franchises, but I’ve always been a Halloween guy. So, here’s what it comes down to for me…if I’m in the right state of mind to watch a creepy dark horror movie, I’ll watch a Halloween movie. But if I just want to sit back and relax, have a few laughs and some fun, I’ll watch an F13 movie. Each franchise does their job very well.

Halloween(1978) Vs. Friday the 13th Part III
I Love Both films but I have to give it too Halloween on this one!

Halloween II(1981) vs. Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter
For this one I give it too FT13th.

Halloween III:Season of the Witch Vs. Friday the 13th:A New Beginning
This is another for FT13 IMO!

Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Lives:Friday the 13th Part VI
Another win for Jason!!

Halloween 5:The Revenge of Michael Myers Vs. Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood
This one is hard because I don’t like either movie but I lean more towards FT13th on this one also.

Halloween Resurrection vs. Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan
Neither.

Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday
Again both are bad but for this I give it too Halloween!

All in all IMO I love Halloween and the first film is my all time favorite slasher film but I feel that Friday the 13th has the better franchise. Also they are easier too follow and don’t have so many different timelines.

I like them both, can’t choose between the two.

I like the original TCM (1974) very much also.

It’s not a competition to me, I just like them all and don’t compare them.

Halloween for me. But I would easily watch some Friday the 13th films over H5 and H6 and Resurrection and the Zombie films. I also think as crappy as some F13 films were, they have better continuity than what Halloween became.

All of those are halloween me for me other than the f13 part 8 question. I know part 8 is bad but i never watch F13 for great movies, I watch them for the fun of it. And part 8 is fun to watch. I feel Halloween is the better film franchise imo. I will only ever skip over 2 movies in the Halloween franchise during a review, resurrection and rzh2. With f13 the only ones i really watch are 2 to 4 with 2 being my favorite. I will throw the remake and part 6 in occasionally but I don’t really watch them often at all.

I’ll start by saying that I believe personally that overall, (and I think that a decent amount of Friday fans will actually agree, even if that series is there favorite.) that Halloween is a better series, as much as I love Friday the 13th. I love it for just how entertaining and fun it is to watch, especially in a group, with almost any movie in the series you can sit back and relax with some friends and laugh and make comments about all the stupid and funny parts, see some truly great kills, and just have a great time overall. I believe that that’s what Friday the 13th is the best at, cause sometimes you just need to see a fun and entertaining movie, as stupid as it might be. The Halloween series is fun to watch to a certain extent, but nowhere near Friday the 13th. Though I believe that the Halloween films are in general better than the Friday films, they’re smarter, scarier, and are made better. But enough of that, here are my answers:

H1 vs. Part III: John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978)
Don’t get me wrong, I love Friday the 13th Part III, it’s my second favorite out of the series, right behind Part I. But Halloween… How do I even start? It’s a film that comes closer to being perfect than almost any movie I’ve ever seen, everything about it is done right. The music is genuinely creepy and without it the film wouldn’t be what it is. The Characters are not shallow and they feel a lot like actual people. Even with the teenage victims like Bob, Annie, and Lynda, they have their own personalities and traits, they aren’t annoying, and they’re pretty well acted. Michael, Loomis, and Laurie are all just amazing characters and Castle, Pleasence, and especially Curtis do spectacular jobs bringing them to life. And it has something that you don’t see in hardly any slasher movie ever, it makes you at the least, genuinely creeped out, and that’s all thanks to Carpenter’s amazing talent at creating suspense. When you expect scares, they don’t happen, it’s only when you’ve been waiting long enough to become uncomfortable that they do, and they’re effective. I could never say enough about this movie, and I mean, you guys already know full well why this movie is so good.

H2 vs. Part IV: Halloween II (1981)
Again, I need to state how Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, is agreed on by most people to be one of the best films in the series. In a way, it kinda is the final chapter for how the series was for the first four movies, after this it would kinda evolve with a different tone. Personally the first half of the Friday the 13th series (If we’re going to divide it into two parts, 1-4 and 6-11, part V and the remake are kinda in their own spots.) is my favorite, and the Final Chapter is my third favorite in the series overall. But for this I’m going to have to go with H2. I know how some of you aren’t the biggest fans of the first sequel, and I can understand why, Halloween II is no Halloween, but I’d without a doubt call it one of the greatest horror sequels of all time. The fact that it takes place immediately after the first movie, on that very same fateful night, helps make a connection between the two films that’s stronger than almost any two films I know of, it really does feel like one massive movie, and that’s really cool to see. The fact that it feels so connected makes the story feel more like it’s meant to be there, and overall it isn’t that bad of a plot. Sure it sacrifices suspense and terror for violence and action, but I don’t think it weighs the film down too much. Overall, it’s my second favorite sequel, right after H40. Even if it isn’t canon in a timeline now, and I ended up liking H40 better, it will still always hold a place in my heart.

H3 vs. Part V: Halloween III: Season of The Witch (1982)
I think A New Beginning is pretty alright, it’s not one of my favorites though. But on the other hand I’m not the biggest fan of Halloween III. Yes, I try to view it as separate from the rest of the series, but I just don’t like it all that much. It’s a really cool idea of a movie, but I think that the execution is pretty bad, and the pacing is bad enough to bother me, plus it feels like it completely falls apart over the course of the ending. Though I have to appreciate it for it’s killer concept, some crazy kills and its bizarreness. It’s kind of a tough choice, but I think that I’m going with H3.

H4 vs. Part VI: Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
I love Halloween 4, and Jason Lives is pretty great too. Jason Lives is a truly fun movie, with a great Jason, Thom Mathews is really great as Tommy Jarvis, and those Alice Cooper songs are a pretty good addition too. But Halloween 4 is really good for a sequel, it’s really impressive for a sequel. The soundtrack is one of the best in the series, it does an excellent job at making the setting feel like October and the Midwest, the cast is really good, Danielle Harris does an amazing job for a child actress. I’ll point out one thing I don’t like about it too much, and that’s Michael. I don’t think that he’s the worst Michael in the series, I think his mask is the worst, though I’ve kinda developed a soft spot for it over time. I’m not a fan of how he doesn’t have much of a neck and how his chest and shoulders look like they’re padded. Though Geroge P. Wilbur does a pretty alright job as the shape.

H5 vs. Part VII: Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)
Believe it or not, The New Blood used to be my favorite in the series, and even now it’s probably my 6th or 7th favorite out of them all. I really liked the characters in this one, even if for the most part they weren’t very different, and the whole ESP thing with the main character might be a little stupid but I actually like it a fair amount. Plus, this has probably my favorite Jason in the series, I love how he looks and Kain Hodder is amazing, and the fight scene where he gets the living crap beaten out of him is awesome to see. Halloween 5 on the other hand, I really really don’t like it. It’s my third least favorite in the series, behind RZH2 and Resurrection. Sometimes I feel kinda sorry for it, because it seems like it doesn’t get nearly as much attention as any other movie in the series, but I don’t know if it really deserves that attention either. With some parts of the movie, it feels like it’s trying to be intelligent and unique, while completely failing to do so, and other parts make the movie feel like a complete cash grab, which overall it probably was. Most of the characters in this movie are pretty bad, from the cops to the typical teenagers, and the fact that it doesn’t even seem to care about really anything at this point, killing off Rachael (that pissed me off so bady the first time I saw it.) not bothering to make the Myers House look anything like it did originally, and adding in plot points that they don’t even explain, along with a lame ending that doesn’t really do anything but make this painful story stretch on further. I’ll say this though, Harris and Pleasence still do excellent jobs, and are probably some of the only good things about this movie. Plus I think that Myers appearance might be a slight improvement from the last movie, even if he looks pretty goofy, and I think Don Shanks did a pretty good job actually. Plus, there are some kinda cool scenes, like the one with the laundry vent, that was actually a little bit scary to see.

Resurrection vs. Part VIII: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
I’m positive with which I think is better on this one. Resurrection is in my opinion the worst movie in the series, while Jason Takes Manhattan is probably one of the worst in the Friday series, I still think it’s alright, even if it’s title is a blatant lie. I’ll admit, Resurrection in a way is similar to the Friday the 13th series with how it’s kinda a fun movie to watch in a group, though just how stupid it is almost ruins that too. Jason Takes Manhattan is a better movie, that’s for sure.

H6 vs. Part IX: Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
With both Halloween 6 and Jason Goes to Hell, I think that they’re both just okay. I like Jason Goes to Hell better than a lot of people, but not by much, and with H6 I don’t hate it with a burning passion like some people but I don’t think it’s one of the best in the series like some other people. As for the changing of mythology, I think Halloween 6 did a better job, especially when it had some stuff left over to explain and expand upon, though overall it’s just not that great. I’ll admit, Jason Goes to Hell with the whole ghost Jason thing and the dagger and the worm is a little fun to watch, but pretty stupid overall.

The best true franchise starter battle:
Halloween(1978) Vs. Friday the 13th Part III
•Halloween is the better film. It started the resurgence of slasher and laid a new foundation to the genre. It’s rewatchable and never gets old. It’s has one of the best if not the best theme song to a horror film. Michael is ambiguous and leaving his motive to kill unexplain is creepy as hell is what made Michael all the more terrifying. But I do like Friday part III.

The best 2nd sequel:
Halloween II(1981) vs. Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter
• Halloween II because it feels like it’s a whole film connecting with the OG. I do have some minor issues with it. I do like Friday The final chapter.

The best black sheep in each franchise:
Halloween III:Season of the Witch Vs. Friday the 13th:A New Beginning

•Although, I do like how Jason looks but I’m going for H3, the atmosphere is great and the story is decent, the acting is meh is some cases but I like season of the witch overall knowing what John Carpenter and Tommy-lee Wallace was going for the anthology route.

The best return to the basics:
Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Lives:Friday the 13th Part VI

•Halloween 4 ,hands down, it’s one of the better sequels to The franchise and has one of it not the best atmosphere to a Halloween film. Jason lives is also my favorite in the franchise. Both are easily fan favorites.

The best 2nd follow up to the baics:
Halloween 5:The Revenge of Michael Myers Vs. Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood
•I’d rather go for New Blood. H5 (imo) is what destroyed the Halloween franchise. New Blood for me, is rewatchable if you don’t take the movie serious.

The best general film:
Halloween Resurrection vs. Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan
•They’re both are a joke but I prefer Jason takes Manhattan, the kills are great and has one of the better looking Jasons.

The best mythology changer:
Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers Vs. Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday
•Unfortunately, I would have to lean towards H6, it makes more sense compare to Final Friday. I feel like they were trying to pull a Michael with the whole family bullshit and made it so complicated and dumb, but I do like Crainton Duke as a character along with both the Necronomicon book and Freddy’s glove cameos/easter eggs.

The best true franchise starter battle:

Halloween 1978. I absolutely love Friday the 13th Part III but c’mon compared to Halloween 78 it’s a no contest.

The best 2nd sequel:

Halloween II. If the Final Chapter was pitted against Halloween 4 then it would win hands down but Halloween II is just as good as the first Halloween so i can’t disagree on that it’s basically The Empire Strikes Back of horror sequels imho.

The Best Black sheep in each franchise:

Halloween III. I cannot stand A New Beginning for the life of me. The acting is atrocious, the plot is ridiculous, the characters are borderline unbearable.
However, I do like the opening and closing sequences of that film but that’s the only good shining quality it gets from me.

The best return to basics:

Halloween 4. This was a tough one man I honestly couldn’t decide both have an epic intro return for both madmen and they both have some of the most entertaining kills and cinematography throughout them but I went with Halloween 4 just because I’m more of a Halloween fan than I am a Friday the 13th fan.

The best 2nd follow up to basics:

Halloween 5. I’m serious when i say this but i absolutely love Halloween 5. Yeah sure they had no idea what story line they were going for when they made this film and that it starts the whole cult mythology but I just love the Gothic blended in with the fall atmosphere that it was going for and that Michael truly felt like an emotionless killer especially this time around when he was so devoted to kill Jamie even trying to run her over you really felt so bad for her and terrified that she was gonna get brutally slaughtered. The New Blood is ok for the most part Kane Hodder does an amazing job as Jason with part of his skull showing and the chain around his neck but it just feels like a bad retrend of the Final Chapter plus there’s no Tommy or
any other familiar characters in the past entries to make this feel more blended in not to mention the butchered cut of all the kills.

The best general film:

Jason Takes Manhattan. There’s not one person in the world who I can think of that can say Resurrection is a great film. There was absolutely no need for it. H20 was the nail in the coffin for franchise and they just had to make this. At least Jason takes Manhattan is good to watch on a rainy day and some of the kills are pretty funny and entertaining.

The best mythology changer

Halloween Curse of Michael Myers (Producer’s Cut). Just like with Resurrection I can’t think of one person in this world that can say the same for JGTH. in fact it’s worse than Resurrection! all copies of this film needs to be burned and buried in a landfill where no one can ever see it again. Curse of Michael Myers is pretty good if you just look at it as a different timeline for the Halloween films, you can practically blame Halloween 5 for it even being made in the first place they had to continue from there. Plus I absolutely adore the music in the Producer’s Cut even the theatrical cut has some pretty good themes in there as well. But since the Theatrical cut doesn’t really explain a lot of what happened after 5 and that Michael is basically Jason in this version I just had to choose the Producer’s Cut since it’s more coordinated.

I enjoy both equally as franchises. I think Halloween has more outlier films that I don’t really care for though so Friday the 13th has more consistency despite having one more film in their respective franchises, that being said the Halloween series has tried to be something more highbrow (if Friday the 13th was the Ramones, Halloween was The Clash), so its’ films tend to have better production values.

I always get tossed up about which franchise I like better. I love both characters. However, I’m just going to say I would’ve loved in Jason would’ve kept his LOOK of being human like in part 3/4 throughout the whole series like Michael does regardless of if he becomes “supernatural” or not. HALLOWEEN probably beats part 3 as a starter, but I much more enjoy the final chapter over H2 1981. I honesty love the camp setting of the F13 series. It’s all a wash for me :man_shrugging: Can’t decide on the rest. Two best fictional killers on the screen. Although I do enjoy leatherface and Freddy in part 1
