I didn’t end up working the event (due to work conflicts)…but my wife and I (along with a few friends) attended the opening night of Los Angeles Universal Studios’ “HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS” tonight! The event was almost completely revamped for this year…and it featured three all new mazes; “My Bloody Valentine: Be Mine Forever”, “Saw: Game Over”, and “Halloween: The Life and Crimes of Michael Myers”!
First, I have to say that it was pretty obvious to anyone that attended last year’s event that several set pieces, set decorations, maze constructions, and other assorted ideas/items had been reused from previous years. BUT…having said that, we thought the event was INCREDIBLE fun!
We just got back about half an hour ago (it’s almost 2am PST), and I’m gonna head to bed. But, tomorrow I’ll post a more detailed and thorough review of the entire event…!
I highly recommend it to anyone able to get out to the park! Myers fans are sure to LOVE the “Halloween” house!
Most of the pics didn’t come out because you weren’t allowed to use flash and it was pretty dark everywhere (especially inside the mazes). I have a few shots of the outside of the Myers house…and that’s about it.
Ohhh man, can’t wait to see some shots you snapped, I read a full description of the maze breakdown and it had such a great flow. The production designer was interviewed and elaborating on how he was going for extreme accuracy in every prop from furniture to the mask. Did you get splattered with the “blood” (warm water) when Michael attacked? THAT sounded like a catchy idea
The detail in the house was absolutely amazing…seriously. They had replicas of the jack o’lantern from the opening credits in so many rooms in the house…the TV in the first room in the house (the living room) had the 50’s version of “The Thing” playing on the TV…the outfits Lynda and Annie wore were spot on (Annie was wearing the men’s button-up shirt she wore while waiting for her laundry to finish)…they had a Dr Loomis who looked and sounded EXACTLY like Pleasence…the kitchen (where Bob’s impaled corpse was hanging from the wall) had a radio on the counter playing “Don’t Fear The Reaper”…there was a TV room that had the “Silver Shamrock” commercial playing on the TV and corpses of children who wore the masks while watching the commercial… They even had a room in the house that was supposed to be Myers’ cell at Smith’s Grove, and in it, sitting on his desk, was a “case file”. The attention to detail on that case file was absolutely amazing as well… I didn’t have time to file though it (nor are you supposed to do that anyway), but from the papers I read on the top of the file, it was obvious that the prop department put a lot of time into making it look authentic.
The whole Myers maze was EXTREMELY detailed and very lovingly crafted. I was absolutely blown away by the level of care and “love” put into crafting it.
And the “Saw” and “My Bloody Valentine” mazes were awesome as well, I have to say. Just a great all-around experience, I thought.
