Halloween II (1981)

It’s still an opinion. Film is a form of art, completely subjective.

Of course, you’re simplifying it.

It’s about story, directing, camera, lighting, presentation, filming techniques, etc. I could go on and on.

Halloween II is a skeletal film practically by itself, let alone in comparison to H40. Halloween 2 is not even in the same league in terms of quality of filmmaking (I would argue it’s the middle of the pack in the entire franchise). That’s not subjective. Halloween 2 was pretty much an autopilot sequel with little substance, rhyme or reason and John Carpenter himself admits that. H40, on the other hand, is a film full of purpose and is vastly better from every aspect of technical filmmaking. Again, that’s not subjective.

Okay bud. Good talk.

It’s my favorite sequel. Has my favorite Michael look, great soundtrack. Some of my favorite scenes from the series. I like that it picks up on the same night as the first one and shows the reactions to Michael’s massacre. I fucking hate the sister thing, though. I still love it though.

Dean Cundey, Ray Stella and a Practical Effect’s Pumpkin for the Opening Credits. Halloween II rules.

Also…the best review for Halloween 2018 was one out of Chicago. “It made me appreciate Halloween II (1981) more than ever!” Nuff said!

Halloween 2 is like a song that moves you emotionally. You can’t explain why a chord can make you feel a certain way, it just does.

It’s my favorite sequel and on par with the original IMO. I love the feel of the movie, how creepy the hospital was (yes I like the empty hospital lol) loved DW as MM, great cast, the brother/sister thing never bothered me.

Haha I love it!

You really cannot compare both film cinematic wise…different times…so many toys now to make the film spectacular…but you have to have a good DP to paint the picture…and Dean was the man back then…his icy cold lighting…out of the darkness shots…he was a huge part of H1 and H2’s success…almost just as important as JC.

As far as story telling…2018 is a better story…lighting Eh…some of the shots were very cool…but most were basic…that being said…you have to different part 2’s now so every Halloween can pick your own ending!..

Personaly Halloween 2 is better than the new one. Biggest reason for me is the Atmosphere and that they used the same filming locations.
When it comes down to the Soundtrack… 50/50.
When it comes down to Myers…Warlock > Courtney. But Courtney did a very good job too

H2 will always be a classic film and I love it. Carpenter wanted to kill Michael off so all the following sequels were a mess as they had to explain his reincarnation. For me it is H1, H40 & H2 as my top 3. I like the new storyline better and I can’t forget the mess that is Thorn or the atrocity that is Resurrection. As a standalone film H2 1981 will always be an amazing piece of film history and extremely enjoyable. Warlock made a great Mikey

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Halloween 2 doesn’t have anything going for at cinematically; to me, Dean cundey is the biggest reason why Halloween 2 is as effective as it is. But as effective as the movie is, it doesn’t really have anything going for it in terms of story or uniqueness. It was essentially a cheaper attempt at a carbon copy of the original, and I don’t think I need to mention yet again that most of the criticisms I levy against Halloween 2 were affirmed by John Carpenter himself.

I’d like to read the review you’re referring to because I’m almost laughing at the idea of a credible film critic trying to insinuate that the new film is bad in comparison. As I said, there’s no comparison; overall as a film, it makes Halloween 2 look like a B-movie.

Those are strong words. Considering it was 37 years since H2, of course the effects and quality are going to be levels beyond. I too enjoyed the new film but in no way does it make H2 seem like a B-movie. In what sense could you explain that?

1978 was the innovator of modern slasher films. No debating that. The 80’'s brought about a gore race so H2 of course had more disturbing scenes like the hot tub and scalpel kill. Just look at how many people go for the Warlock stretch or try to emulate the mask from the film.

Sure it wasn’t perfect, but to call it a B-movie is just an insult. The hospital atmosphere worked well and it was surprisingly well-scripted. Carpenter and JLC wanted nothing to do with it but they made it something special anyway. The blood tears scene has gone down in infamy and thousands of masks have been made to replicate that scene alone. Again, I understand it not being perfect but in no way is it a B-movie. Even with the new film, it is still a classic.

This.

No stronger effect in this world than time! I liked the “unrotting” pumpkin.

Because the film is skeletal in comparison. I already explained that thoroughly. Finally getting another good film in the Halloween franchise I think really exposed Halloween 2 for how shallow it is.

Yeah, I don’t really have too many problems with the kills specifically, just that it felt like the movie had to cheapen itself to keep up with the industry. Again, most of my points that I’m using against the movie were affirmed by John Carpenter himself, and he wrote the damn thing.

I’m actually not arguing any of your points, and as I’ve said Halloween 2 is my personal favorite in the series. But it’s just no comparison to H40. You can go up and down the line and in almost every aspect of filmmaking, H40 is so much smoother, well done and has so much more substance. The direction, drama and atmosphere was so professionally done, as opposed to being a cheaper carbon copy. Don’t get me wrong, Halloween is a damn good movie to make a carbon copy of, but H40 was so much more than that.

Again, your opinion. You can say it until you are blue in the face, but spouting your thoughts like they are gospel does not change the fact that it is still an opinion.
Halloween 2 is a better film. That is MY OPINION that you can’t change.

^This^

This Joe Grizzly guy has become down right ridiculous. His saying his point of views are not opinions but FACTUAL are just idiotic! Why are you trying to jam your opinions down peoples throats??? Why so fucking argumentative???

This board is about Michael Myers…the movies…the masks…the season…
I AM ABSOLUTELY THRILLED we got a new movie even though I felt it was WAY overhyped for what product we got but i absolutely look forward to another one…
But to sit here and read some of this garbage makes me not want to even come here anymore.

And This…
