Halloween II and Halloween III Blu's...pretty cool!

I got these in earlier this week and finally had a good chance to watch them; the transfers look really, really good and the audio is perfect. The interviews on both features open up a bunch of insight on the making of the films. For Halloween II, I really don’t wanna divulge anything because everyone deserves to see this for themselves but I will say this…Irwin Yablans is sue happy and comes across as a jerk kinda. I’ll explain more when the Blu’s get released.

The supplements…none, not one photo, posters, stills, masks or anything from my collection made it on the discs. I’m thanked on both of the discs but the only thing I gave was the radio spots for Halloween II. My scanner computer hard drive crashed when I was transferring about 400 photos for Halloween II and Halloween III and I didn’t get the photos in time to them to meet their cut off date so in the interviews they use everyday normal press-kit photos. The wrap around Universal Debut Network tv spots are on there…in the wrong area with the regular TV Spots and not in their own category. It’s really sad though…Universal either doesn’t want to release anything they have on the movies or they really don’t have anything on these movies which is quite surprising. Horrors Hallowed Grounds with Sean is VERY entertaining and very informative; I really can’t believe what he created hasn’t been made into a TV series.

That’s it for my review…I just want you all to get these and enjoy them so we can all start taking in the new info on these discs. PS-I hate they new artwork that they created for the covers, money wasted. For the original artwork created for the movies, Halloween II and Halloween III, the original artwork is changed a bit: both are way too dark and the Halloween III artwork is cropped; I can’t believe they thought no one would notice it.

Oh… Up in Chicago at Flashback Weekend a few weeks back they did an interview with John Carpenter for They Live. After the They Live interview the cameraman asked John about an interview on Halloween II and Halloween III and I will say this…the interview ended very abruptly and John, as I heard, didn’t like being cornered and surprised about questions about those movies. The 4 letter words mommy always told you not to say…lot’s of them.

So kirk, picture good, sound good, no extras worth noting, art work bad?
Just wondering as you couldnt get pictures scanned before release date,
will these pictures ever see the light of day? are they worth seeing for those that havnt?
Not being an arse mate, genuine question.
Dont know bout copyright/ owner issues for public viewing and the like.

If picture and sound good, im in! nice to of seen some decent extras aswell but…

And the carpenter response to being quizzed, do we expect any other response?

cheers mart

Thanks for the review. I pre-ordered them both, just waiting for them to come in.

Lot’s of info in the new interviews. The photos, most behind the scenes and set up shots, will probably never see the light of day, besides my eyes…sorry. Copyrights aren’t an issue. When you see the Irwin Yablans interview, it explains why John isn’t too keen about interviews on Halloween II I feel.

Aw man, that new artwork is only on the slip covers? :frowning:

Be honest it was the behind the scenes pics i was most looking forward to.
As most other people i should imagine.
Ah well like i said if the pic and sound quality is there ill be buying.
Thanks for the quick reply kirk.

Nope, it’s also the main artwork that is on the discs, remember…these have reversible covers. PLUS, I hate the new artwork made for these…Terror Train and The Funhouse too.

As long as the new docs and commentaries are good and on the discs as advertised (cough cough anchor bay) I won’t regret pre ordering these

WOW Billy, I truly wish your photos would’ve made the release, and I really wish my eyes could see some of the exclusive things you get to see! :open_mouth:… Either way I do still look forward to owning these and I’m sure there are lots of new cool stuff to digest.

Also, thanks to you Mr. Magnum for saving tons of stuff that Universal may have trashed, we may never get to see it all but at least it still exists… :drinkers:

Lots and lots of good stuff on there. I will repeat this…watch the interview with Yablans; it’s key to why John doesn’t like talking about Halloween II. I don’t wanna give anything away but I’d like to discuss this when more people see the interview.

:drinkers: Us NERDS of the world…UNITE!

Dont know if i missed it or not but are these gonna be avaliable in any stores?

Probably…I don’t see how they wouldn’t be.

Question Billy, so I’m curious, what version are we getting of HII? Is it the TV version only or the TV scenes mixed with the theatrical?.. I have an old VHS with scenes that I wish were on the theatrical version.

It’s the complete Television version at the ratio of 1.33:1. Again, the wrap-arounds are located in the TV Spot area of the discs.

I think it is interesting that the whole Halloween II tv version that was on AMC is on Youtube. I did not know they could put a whole movie up. It is good to check out if you have never seen it before.

cool review I need to pick up Halloween II

Awesome Billy, thanks for all of the info. I’m just waiting for Amazon to deliver them to my doorstep.

Kinda off-topic…

I have no way of knowing, but I am thinking that that Anchor Bay will lose the license to the original Halloween at some point. If/when that ever happens, I’m hoping that whoever picks up the rights (Criterion? They had it before!) contacts you about the footage you have of Nick dancing around after the fall off of the balcony.

Do you think there is ANY POSSIBILITY whatsoever of that happening?

I have the Universal Blu-ray, what’s the difference with this version…Is it worth the double dip ?
