Halloween II and Halloween III masks questions

Im still getting warmed up to history and knowledge of the Myers masks. I have a few questions Im hoping one of the more knowledgable members on here can answer for me.

  1. I have read somewhere that the mask used in Halloween II is the exact same mask used in Halloween. But it just looks so different. I mean, even mask makers on here who make movie accurate replicas have different molds and stuff for the Halloween II mask. If it’s the same mask then why does it look so different? Did they make further altercations to it?

  2. I read that Don Post Studios “mass produced” the Halloween III masks and they were available in stores for $25. However I have scoured ebay and other sites and have never been able to find one. I keep getting told to order one of the Silver Shamrock company masks from the movie molds and they are like $300. If they were mass produced, why are they so hard to find? And does anyone have any photos of the original ones? Im also curious if they came with a “Halloween III” tag on them…

1.) Yes, they are the same mask. Several years of aging and wear and tear on the mask caused the hair to appear more matted and more of the flesh colors to come through on the mask. Dick Warlock’s head also made the mask appear slightly different when worn, but they were the same mask - there is absolutely no question about that. Here is a side by side - you can match up dirt and paint marks pretty easily.

2.) Yes, Don Post Studios did mass produce the official masks from the film Halloween 3. However, you will not find originals that easily. Skulls can be found for about $150, witches for around $400+ and Pumpkin Heads for $1,000+. That is, if any of the owners want to sell their originals, they are fairly rare to come across. Just because they were mass produced doesn’t mean there were thousands upon thousands sold. Originals are very hard to come by. SSNs are your best bet unless you have a lot of cash and time to search for originals. They did come with Silver Shamrock tags, though most consumers removed these when they purchased them way back when. You have to remember 99% of the masks purchased back then, and now, are purchased by kids looking for Halloween costumes. Collectors fill a very small portion of the mass produced market.

Here is a picture of Billy Kirkus’ originals:

Thanks Sheriff Bracket! You pretty much answered everthing I was wondering. I guess it will be easier and cheaper to buy the readily available SSN masks.

Also, I heard they tried to use the same mask again in Halloween 4 but it looked like shit so they sculpted a brand new one.

Yes,according to writer Alan B.McElroy in the H4 audio commentary, the original mask was used in the school scene where Michael throws Loomis through the window just before Rachel blasts him with the fire extinguisher. The reason given for the mask & hair being completely white was aging. If I remember right they said it was on the verge of disentagrating soon after, probably hence the reason a new one was sculpted!

Egads Josh! what happened to the original hood on the witch?

It’s under there. Jon got the fabric hood somewhere and it just floats on top of the original hood. Fear not, it’s still there!

LOL! Sweet. I forgot Jon got that hood. :sunglasses:
