I won this recently on the Profiles in History memorabilia auction. I’ve been after this for about 20 years…ever since I first saw it at Planet Hollywood in St. Louis. This IS my Grail piece. I am 100% done collecting masks or props. This was, to me, my Holy Grail. I called Planet Hollywood every year about this piece…for 20 years. I’m friends with the actual guy who made this and am overjoyed to have this in the collection.
Just off the truck…in-between a thunderstorm from hell.
It’s 64 inches tall.
It’s 38 inches wide.
It’s 54 inches deep.
The Skull is inside the Pumpkin and is very visible.
It weighs about 60 pounds.
It was made TALL and THIN because of the lense they used…which made it w i d e r. It was made this big for contrast purposes and detail.
When I got into the mask/hobby realm, all I wanted was the Halloween III masks and the Terror Train masks…then I saw this in 1998 and this became the ultimate grail. This was the cake…everything else along the way was the icing. My wife is having a heart attack about this but she knows and understands this and what it means to me. I mean, for Christ Sakes…it’s going in the front room because it won’t fit through doors. It’s a family member now and it will get decorated for Christmas and every holiday.
The pumpkin was sealed back together when he got done filming the title sequence in 1981. He had it displayed in his studio until Planet Hollywood asked if they could have it back in 1986/87. Planet displayed it in St Louis for about 10 years and then it went into storage for 20 years…never seeing the light of day.
Yup…20 years of dust. Just sitting on this pallet…they wouldn’t sell it…all of their restaurants were closing. They just sat on it. I bugged the hell out of them. NOPE!
I will never understand that. Why would they not sell the items they have that aren’t displayed and won’t be displayed in the future? Its absolutely sick. Hell, donate it to a museum or something. Just don’t let it go unappreciated you know?
