Hey everyone. As the title says, how did the H3 soundtrack affect you while you watched it. For me, with the exception of the Silver Shamrock jingle I actually got a lot of dark and tensioned- filled vibes from the score. I actually thought it made half of the film. How did the score affect you?
Honestly upon first viewing as a child the soundtrack (especially the opening track with the guy running from the goons) always stuck in my brain.
Silver Shamrock was easy to remember, of course, but those synths are wicked. Exactly what I think of when I think of an 80’s soundtrack creating a tone and mood for a film.
I will be totally honest, as a child in the 80’s when this came out for vhs rental, I obviously anticipated Myers to be in the film, not having a clue what I was about to watch. And by the end of it, the soundtrack made the movie for me by a landslide. I was greatly disappointed that Myers was nowhere to be found, but man, that soundtrack was what made the movie for me. Just a great John Carpenter/Alan Howarth score.
It took years for me to appreciate the movie itself, but I was seeking out ways to listen to that score after seeing it for the first time. And back then, that was no easy feat without internet or youtube I can assure you of that!!
Lol had to have the parents rent the VHS a few more times and just play all the score parts over and over. So what I did was put an audio cassette recorder next to the TV and record the sound best I could. It wasn’t the best quality, but it got the job done! Lol ahh the simple life before internet, it was a nice peaceful time…
One of my favorite pieces from the score is the one titled “First Chase”, very good stuff right there. I got a hint of that feel with “Laurie sees the shape” from the new 2018 score. It had that feel to it.
And I recently just picked up the new limited edition Vinyl of the part 3 score about a week before Halloween. Totally badass stuff.
The score definitely made the movie very creepy for me. Even though Myers wasn’t part of the story, I appreciate this movie.
I appreciate hearing about all of your experiences. “Simple times.” I hear that too as I was also an 80’s child. I wanted to use this specific word last night but it just came to mind. When I first heard the score as a kid it sounded ominous to me. Now I really know what that word means as an adult. If that can be linked to a movie’s look and/or score then it must be doing something right.
soundtrack had a great influence, it was terrific indeed, the jingle and the synth choice really gives a demonic effect, but also the main theme at the beginning is spot on, a very underestimated movie
