The TOTS H5 for $60 bucks is better than most Indy H5 sculpts. I attached a photo of mine. I do believe an SSN was used to create the TOTS H5, but Justin also said he did it as a ground up sculpt. But the similarities say otherwise. One of the best H5 masks out there.
However, the hair is an issue. You will either want to get it re-haired, or you will need to do some serious gel and spray work to hold the stock hair in place. It’s very free flowing hair, so it kind of goes everywhere. I simply used gel and spray on mine, and got it to a point where it’s set in place and looks the part.
Your getting a top notch H5 sculpt for $60 bucks, so a little effort on the hair is worth the trouble.
Ok so I used an extreme hold hair gel, as well as a super freeze hair spray. The spray is for the last part, so don’t use that until the end.
I stuffed the mask and put it on a stand, with the mask slightly tilted forward so the hair doesn’t hang back. I just took my time to make sure I worked it in all layers of the hair, starting with the bottom most layers first. Once it’s all worked in and it starts getting tacky, you can shape it how you want. Maybe use some latex gloves for this.
I didn’t saturate it to the point where it was dripping, you don’t want to do that, but just lightly keep adding some through. You want it all through the hair but not sopping wet with it. It’s a tedious process to get things right where you want them, because the hair is very soft and free flowing.
It will take some time to get it where you want it, but once you do, then go ahead and do some light layers of the hair spray to lock it down. Basically the goal is not so much styling the hair, but simply getting it to stay in place. Because if you just wear the mask as-is, the hair will be flowing like your about to go to a Metallica concert lol.
So that’s how I did it, and as long as you just do a light amount for each go around, then you can eventually get it to stay put. If you go too heavy with it, then it will just be like a brick block of hair you can’t work with.
Then of course option two is to just get it re-haired. But I think it’s completely doable to just fix the hair that’s on it. So just remember, light amounts each time, too little is better than too much. Just keep going at it like that until it wants to stay put. Don’t go heavy with it or else it will be unmanageable after it dries.
