***Halloween Kills & Halloween Ends Discussion***

This is a discussion thread not a spoler thread. I appreciate letting us know in the beginning that it was potentially a spoiler but for the love of God can we have a separate thread for spoilers? This has been an issue for the last two movies. Some of us don’t want to stumble upon spoilers while we are surfing the thread.

If you don’t want to read them, avoid this site and social media till the film comes out

She should have multiple Rassie’s at this rate of bollocks

A new spoiler thread.

I hope not either, but if it is, yeah, it’s stupid. But the funny thing is I’m already totally checked out on these crappy blumhouse movies so I don’t even care. Like in RZH2 when Michael screamed “NOOOOO!”… I didn’t care. It’s not the real Michael so whatever. I view the blumhouse movies as much the same thing.

I didn’t consider Superman III, but now that you mention it, yeah, that seems about right. ANOES 3 & 4 came to my mind for some reason.

btw, I won’t directly talk about any spoilers without blacking them out and advertizing that they’re spoilers.

EDIT: ViewerAnon says another test screening is happening tomorrow in Vegas so it shouldn’t be long after that and we can compare these spoilers to those.

I think at this stage, the only thing they can really play with is how they end the picture, which can only have a marginal affect on the overall direction of the movie. I imagine they have variations that let Michael live, Laurie live, or perhaps everyone dies. But if the gist of the film rides on this other storyline which is conjecture (not spoiler) at this point, then the ending will feel like nothing more than an aimless insert. Obviously I’m seeing this so they have my money, but my enthusiasm is diminished. For it to be this wishy-washy in the final chapter really makes the whole series feel pretty much like ideas just thrown against the wall while they design scenes for callback moments.

I’ve said it before but the way this trilogy mirrors the most recent Star Wars one is just hilariously/sadly uncanny

What’s bizarre about this is it’s made by the same people, no change in director. You would have thought there would be consistency, a story that’s been well thought-out. It does not look good on David Gordon Green that he puts himself in a hole and can’t get out of it. He did it, literally, to himself.
That’s gotta be a first.

Maybe HEnds is some kind of genius we’ve yet to see, I’ll be the first to admit it. Is it likely? Probably not.

I think he should have just gone with all three films on the same night. if that was his initial idea. It seems like a huge lack of confidence on his part he decided to scrap the entire thing and write from scratch. Maybe he got burned from the reaction to Halloween Kills but if you’ve got a vision you believe in, I think you should follow it through.
He’s coming across very naive, possibly a puppet. how much input does he actually have over people like Jamie Lee Curtis for example. If she says JUMP, he’ll probably say how high.
I have noticed the addition of extra writers since H2018, it’s been a bizarre bunch. Maybe they should have just stuck with Green-McBride as a writing duo, maybe studio interference has reared his ugly head again. There is something wrong, for sure.

Having said that, Gordon Green did want Sartain to be a killer in Haddonfield on the same night Michael was released in an early 2018 version. He thought it would create the ultimate chaos. He seems obsessed with the idea of having two killers on the same night and looks like he’s finally got his wish.

I live in the “Deep South,” where we don’t have sewers large enough for people to walk upright in, much less live in for years. Are there large sewers in small Illinois towns? I thought the sewer idea was incredibly stupid in Resurrection but am not surprised to see Green use it.

Turtles. Jason Takes Manhatten. CHUD… is what Michael Myers may now be related with. Wonderful.

It’s so dumb, thoughtless. No one would write fan-fic that stupid because it’s that stupid.

He’s been living in a sewer ( is stupid by itself, Christ, we have the worst film in the franchise using that exact premise - and he takes that?) for FOUR YEARS? I’d prefer not knowing where he’s been then that god-awful rubbish. Really must have thought long and hard about that one.

If I had to choose, I’d take Rob Zombie’s wilderness survival Myers over living in a sewer system. You don’t have to get “all Rob Zombie” about it. You could show him in silhouette, burning fire, woodland, a field. Just an image. Yeah, you know he’s surviving off the land. He rises in a Halloween 3-easque sky when he feels it’s time to do his thing to some awesome JC music, puts on the mask… yeah, that would do. “Why’s he doing it now then” … well, because that’s what he does.

I bet Myers reason for coming back from the sewer is to get his mask back from Corey. He must have taken it from him whilst he was … sleeping? WTF a i even writing about here lol How did he get his costume? So Michael Myers is gonna be chasing after Corey naked? This could get weird lol

This is supposed to be the FINAL Halloween movie. Good God, they have to treat it with some respect, surely.

I’m out lol

Oh no good point…could take it while hes sleeping…that has the bummest of houses written all over it

This movie sounds so stupid to me. But I’ll watch it anyway lol

Sound pure shit I just want stalk slash kill suspenseful michael

You get the impression DGG just watched all these movies for the first time before he made these films? He doesn’t seem aware of the fan dissatisfaction, when the writers for Halloween 5 and Zombie’s H2 explained what Myers was doing (or not doing) for a year. Oh here’s the fix. Do it for FOUR years! That takes care of everything. LOL! Imagine what critics will do to this film? It might get the lowest rating of all time.

I’m astounded this “story” was given the green-light in the first place. Did any of the higher-ups actually read it and think “yeah, this is a great idea”? The quality-control (or lack of) of this franchise is beyond belief.
It’s such a simple concept, yet no one in charge of these movies seems to be able to grasp it. Either that, or they just feel too daunted, too out of their league to make a stylistic, atmospheric movie and have to rely on cheap twists and gimmicks.
Frustrating.

Honestly I don’t think the studio really gives a rats’ arse about the story at this stage. If you look at how they were thinking about this project before the release of H18, there didn’t really seem to be a strong idea of where to go after the first film if it was warranted. I think the studio was just hoping to have a mildly profitable result. So when it made money hand over fist, I believe the general thinking was any more films after that would just be gravy. But after Kills dropped considerably on the financial returns, I think they knew the third entry would have to be really bare bones on production costs. Thats why I laughed when they said this film would be a more “intimate” chapter. Intimate my eye. Its just going to be the cheapest one in the series, so they can get another payday even if it underperforms, which seems almost a certainty given the response thus far and the public reaction to Kills last year. Its actually a little too soon for another movie given there’s no public demand for it. Kills also had the biggest second weekend drop of ANY film in the franchise. So that’s clearly not going to generate new interest for this one just a year later. You’ll have mostly the diehards lining up for this one but the general public may not be curious, especially if the critics completely butcher it.

Excellent points.
Still, that should be even more reason to think creatively and, for lack of better wording, actually go back to basics. Instead, the “creative team” has concocted this baloney for the final film. It reeks of either naive ineptitude or an overdeveloped ego on Gordon Green’s part.

Honestly I’ve felt that way about the entire franchise for some time now. I was in that theater back in '78. It was my first rated R film I got to see with my older brother. If you would have told me it would evolve into this stuff nearly 45 years later, I would have called you crazy. Halloween was a psychological drama. Halloween today is a costume film. If you get consensus on the look of the mask and it has “Dean Cundey” lighting, it really doesn’t matter what else happens. And these movies are proof of that. Go out on Youtube and just look at the headlines if you want to skip the content. All of it is on the callbacks and the look. Nothing is about the arc of a three picture story. It might as well be a Batman movie. " Oh look at his cowl! Oh look how he’s backlit with the bat-symbol." You know what I mean? It’s all style over substance.

Its entries like this that actually make me appreciate Halloween 5. It was incompetently executed, but at least they TRIED to think outside the box. At least they tried to move it in a different direction. At least that goofy director gave it his expression. Yet why do fans actually hate that movie?
“Oh the mask is all wrong!” LOL! There you go. You have to wonder if someone went in and CGI’d the Halloween Kills mask on Don Shanks if that would suddenly make H5 an instant fan favorite. Dr Sartain can be the guy in the steel toe boots. Maybe DGG understood that from watching these movies and thought, “I’ll give them their mask. Then we’ll write the story on the back of a napkin.” That seems to be the case.

Halloween 5 is so so much worse than just the mask, I wouldn’t even want to begin. There are so many things wrong with that film.

I think the only thing that was actually pretty good was the soundtrack. That was about it. But my point is when you get the mask right, the fans forgive ALLOT. When you mess up the mask, then the fans see it for what it is. Can you imagine the Halloween 5 mask in Kills? Fans would have roundly hated it and pointed out how stupid the story was. But they get the mask right and suddenly, its a weak story but a “descent slasher film”? Oh brother…
