Halloween mask figure out

I wonder how long it took people to figure out that the Michael Myers mask was a Captain Kirk mask after seeing Halloween 1978?

You know, I’ve always wondered this too. I can just imagine someone going to a theater to watch the film in 1978, and somehow recognizing the mask as a Kirk mask, then went home and converted theirs the same way. I’ve wondered the same thing with the first Scream film…at the time, the Ghostface mask was just part of a line of masks by Funworld that had been around since 1992, and the film crew just happened to stumble across that particular mask while scouting filming locations, and contacted Funworld to allow them to use it in the film. After the film released, Funworld officially changed the name of the mask to “Ghostface”, along with the “as seen in Scream” logo, as we know them today. But my point is, in 1996 when the first film came out, and before all that, it makes you wonder if someone sitting in the theater saw the mask and thought “hey, I’ve got that mask!”

This is something I have wonder myself as well. It’s plausible that at LEAST one Star Trek super-fan pointed out it had to been a Kirk Mask judging by Tommy Lee’s Portrayal of the mask because he captured more of William Shatner’s likeliness. Halloween is truly lighting in a bottle.

I didn’t find out it was a Captain Kirk mask that was turned into a Michael Myers mask until the year 2000 in Building Trades class by an old friend saying hey did you know that was actually a Star Trek Captain Kirk mask that was converted into a Michael Myers mask and I was like no way I couldn’t believe it and honestly I didn’t even know Captain Kirk was or William Shatner so I was kind of like Clueless🤣
But I can imagine going in and seeing the movie and not having a damn clue if that was a real solid natural Michael Myers mask or a Captain Kirk mask cuz it looks nothing like Captain Kirk it really don’t

I don’t remember the mask origins coming up until Fangoria magazine started doing publicity for Halloween 4 in 1988. At that time the mask creation was discussed. I will have to pull out those issues, but I believe it was still regarded as a rumor that had not yet been substantiated with any backup evidence. They had to remake the mask because Dick Warlock owned the last remaining specimen from the original two movies.
