Halloween Resurrection Pros

I figured it would be fun to talk about the pros of this film, because despite the crap I give it, it has actually grown on me, in the past few years, so I figured I would list some of the pros in this film, rather than the cons, here are mine:

  1. Killing Laurie Strode: why is this a pro? because the story is really done to death, and seeing Michael finally kill the one that almost got away is very satisfying to lead to a new story with new victims.

  2. Michael driving: This is in the deleted scenes of course, and really should have been kept in the film, cut out the useless camp sex scene and the stupid rap music, and you get to see not only Michael steal the car, but him driving back to his home. These scenes would show a bit of humour stealing someones car, but also why the firebird was parked there in the first place.

  3. The Myers house: Not much of a huge explanation needed, so I will keep it short. I like the way they use the Myers house again as Michael coming home and it’s used for more killings, since it is where it all started, the neglected and abandoned house is really well done and is a perfect haunted house set up.

  4. Brad Loree’s portrayal: I think this is completely overlooked in the film, but to me when I watch Brad in not just the deleted scenes where he steals the firebird, but also the walking down the tunnel as well as down the stairs in the Myers house, he really captures Nick Castles performance and movement well, but adds to it. He really did his research.

  5. Sound design/score: Not a big one, but to me whenever I watch the first scene where Michael walks past Harolds room in the hospital, the sound of the knife scraping along the wall and the score in that moment is really creepy, and is a way of showing that evil is coming to kill again. I wish more of that had been used.

This is all I can I name right now, but the biggest ones for me that stand out the most, feel free to add yours as well, it will be a fun discussion.

I think some of the lighting and shadows were done quite well inside the house.
The kill scene for the redheaded girl was surprisingly good and serious.
I’m also glad Laurie was killed off, which I hope happens in Ends as well. It’s not that I don’t like Laurie, I just liked Halloween 1 and 2 Laurie and don’t wish to see the same thing over and over again as the original was never meant to be about Laurie, she and Tommy just caught The Shape’s attention when they went to the Myers house that morning in the original Halloween.
I like that the whole family thing was done away with after the opening of Resurrection as (as flawed as its’ execution may be) it was the first time since the original that we weren’t burdened with the family plot.
The concept of a semi-“found footage/mockumentary” style Halloween was interesting, just not the execution.

If it wasn’t a Halloween movie it’d be more entertaining on its’ camp value because it’s quite campy in a fun way like a late 80’s to early 90’s horror flick (you know like Night of the Demons, Popcorn, Night Visitor, Shocker, Sleepaway Camp II, Dolls, The Boneyard, Chopping Mall, etc.). I feel similarly with Halloween H:20, it works as a good post-Scream style slasher but as a Halloween movie I feel it fails. I think RZH2 is also similar in this respect because it is probably Rob Zombie’s best movie in a lot of ways (cinematography, performances, mood, interesting concepts), people just didn’t like it as a Halloween series entry.

Agreed with the lighting, it was rather effective for what they were going for, and the redheads death was rather scary

Another pro I would also add, the coveralls chosen really fit for the mask in terms of having a large collar that actually covers the back of the mask whenever worn
