Halloween: Resurrection

I’ve been watching all the Halloween movies in order and today was Halloween: Resurrection. Before today the last time I watched H:R was about 2 years ago and I remembered not liking it but I couldn’t remember exactly why. Then I popped it into the DVD player and I was instantly reminded why I didn’t like it. It’s god awful. I like the Halloween theme they used, I like the mask, and Brad Loree does a decent job as the Shape but he’s stuck in one of the worst ideas for a horror movie that I’ve ever seen. Why the hell didn’t they just make the movie all about Michael chasing Laurie through the asylum? That would have been so much better than Busta Rhymes vs Michael Myers in a bad kung fu fight. It took 20+ years for Michael to finally find Laurie and then they wrap up that entire story in 15 minutes just so we can be force fed an awful plot about a reality TV show produced by Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks? What? Why is this even in a Halloween movie?

Like I said, I liked the score, I liked the mask and I liked Brad Loree as the shape. Everything else in that god forsaken train wreck of a movie is just crap. I know not everyone likes H4-H7 or Rob Zombie’s H1 and H2 but each and every one of those are so far beyond the failure that is H:R that it’s not funny. It amazes me that H:R doesn’t catch more heat from the fans.

I love the Halloween franchise, I love the characters and I’m open to other directors visions of the story but H:R still feels like a big slap in the face 7 years after it’s release.

I absolutely hated this film, its horribble becouse H20 was FANTASTIC and had an amzing story, mask, etc. The ending of H20 was great,it was emotional and the perfect ending but noo they had to make more money and come up with some BS story about how michael stole an ambulance guys clothes and put the mask on him and stuff.I mean its michael! A guy who is one of the craziest murderers of all time and only ONE person is around to check him out! And then they bring tyra banks and busta ryhmes into ressurection for god knows what reason and its bs.Might as well put the movie in the comedy genre,And the ending was rediculous becouse obviously theyre not going to continue the series, its been almost 8 years and what is michael gonna be 60 years old? H20 WAS where it ended for me,the ending was emotional and just really got to me,it was great. The story line in ressurection is BS too,he just goes around killing people and thats it,NO PLOT.I didnt even feel like I was watching a halloween movie. The ressurection mask also apperas to look like a gorrila face in some parts.DID NOT LIKE THIS MOVIE.

Ugh…not only do I think RESURRECTION was the worst in the Halloween series (edging out the awful H20) but I’d have to say its one of the dopiest horror movies Ive ever seen. Cliche characters; bad acting; rapper in the cast and so on. There is not ONE essence of Myers OR Halloween (both the original film AND holiday/season) in this piece of crap.
I also like the Resurrection mask least of all Halloween films.
RESURRECTION picks up the “WB” or “MTV” baton from H20 and runs with it. They were trying to appeal to fans of SCREAM; I KNOW WHAT YOU DID; etc.
Its an awful film lol.

For a moment just look back at the original then watch this piece of crap. It’s like what the hell happened?

i honestly like the movie i love the mask, the theme rocked, brad loree did a great job, and in that movie it did something
that alot of the other sequals left out which was have the shape stocking his victums. even though there are only a few people
on the board that like halloween resurrection im not affraid to say halloween resurrection is one of my favorite sequals.

I deny the existence of Resurrection. H20 had the perfect ending, and that was no paramedic.

You guys don’t hold back now. I mean tell us how you really feel about Resurrection  It’s another edition of lets bash a sequel night on MM.net YAY! What a great post :open_mouth:

Agreed

Agreed

I dont understand the point of this statement. So its ok for the masses to complain and moan about how much they hate rob zombies halloween but when someone “bashes” another (yes IMO crappy) sequel all of a sudden its a no no?

Hey, like I said in my first post: I love the Halloween franchise, I love the characters and I’m open to other directors visions of the story, but H:R just fails at everything.

I’m sure some people out there like H:R. More power to them. I like H4-H7 and Zombie’s H1 and H2 and I know that some people hate one or all of those movies. They can bash those all they want, they’re allowed to. At the end of the day all their bashing won’t change my opinion and my bashing of H:R shouldn’t change the opinion of anyone who likes H:R.

:drinkers:

I agree with most of what you are saying The Curse.

The first 15 minutes of Resurrection made me hope for a great movie, the last 1 hr 15 minutes proved otherwise. Horrible movie.

This is where I differ with you:

Rob Zombie’s H2 is FAR worse than anything that came before it. Granted Resurrection was a turd but at least the first 15 minutes was good.

RZ’s H2 was only better in the fact that Michael didn’t go kung-fu with a rapper. Although I HATED this scene, to be fair it was a small scene. RZ’s H2 had Michael looking like a hobo, half his face exposed, seeing white horses and “mommy and little self ghosts” and a host of other problems.

Resurrection WAS the worst movie in the franchise UNTIL Rob Zombie’s “vision” of H2 came out.

I agree bro…this wasn’t a venomous thread at all and we’re not beating a dead horse the way things went with RZ’s films.

As for RZ’s H2 being the WORST film in the Halloween franchise? its all subjective so I can’t really argue someones opinion other than by saying that atleast H2 was a horror film…a throwback gore film. Wtf was RESURRECTION? it was a weak surrender/attempt to lure in another audience and lets face it…it sucked. Its not a good movie by any stretch. And the Buster scene is unforgivable. Small scene? time wise? maybe. I’d love to see what people would have said if Rob had 50 Cent and G Unit boot stomping ol’ Mikey. :unamused:

See, this is what I was talking about. People have different opinions about the Halloween films and it’s perfectly fine to state them. I like the Zombie Halloween movies and Michaelantern doesn’t and that’s cool.

I’d still like to see the first 15 minutes of H:R turned into a full movie.

Cheers! :drinkers:

I think one of the issues with Resurrection (for me anyways) was casting Busta and Tyra Banks. I don’t have an issue with either of them as actors, but the entire time they we’re running around, fleeing Myers, or fighting him, I never saw them as their characters, just Tyra and Busta.

as a filmmaker, I liked the technical aspects of H:R…the Cinematography was great, colors, mood and look! If the story was about him coming home to hang’em up after Laurie and maybe somehow it got spun in the direction of Sara and her friends bumping into him somehow (H1, annie saying HEYYYY JERRRRKKK…SPEEED KILLS) or just some random way for him to go after them, the film would’ve spawned what made 1 and 2 great i think. I even think Rosenthal did good with what he had to work with…

the other way they should’ve gone is him going after John and Molly, even if they had to recast John Tate, the story should’ve been about Michael finishing Laurie and finding John.

Technically, the film is great, but the story/script was TERRIBLE!!! Honestly, you can blame Moustapha Akkad for that one too…he green lit it…same with the Weinstein’s and the dreaded Paul Freeman…:::shivers:::

with that said, id watch this over RZ:H2 (2009) ANYDAY!!!

I would watch Resurrection numerous times over instead of watching either of the Convoluted, cliche ridden, piles of excrement which Rob Zombie titled Halloween!

Malek should be B!@# Slapped for ever letting those atrocities be made.

While Resurrection was not the shining film in the series, it was far better than most give it credit. The Busta/Tyra Dangertainment angle was a bit much but at the time the film was made, Reality TV and the internet were what was hot. It was a weak attempt to pull pop culture into the series. However, most of the death scenes were decent, and I agree with just about everything Morgan wrote.

They had potential to continue this series, and tie up loose ends with H8 but ultimately failed.

An H9 with further story development into John and Molly, or even bringing in Tommy and Stephen would have been ideal.

Why they ever let RZ “Reimagine” this character is beyond me. He went from being a psychotic urban child who is possibly possessed spiritually, to the product of a broken home yadda yadda white trash cliche stripper mother, abused, yadda yadda more white trash cliches. Makes me want to puke.

RZ has ruined this franchise and I really truly hope that we get a brand new reboot with the new H3 and can forget the past 2 years of trainwreck.

RESURRECTION can’t hack it as a general horror film let alone as an installment of the Halloween series. Theres very little to nothing redeeming about it. As a film maker I preferred the washed colours and dark textures of RZ’s H2 over the surveillance camera look of RESURRECTION…by that I mean it was way to clean looking to lend any kind of suggested mood.
RESURRECTION is completely goofy but is devoid of any charm that many “goofy” horror films have had. Bad casting; bad acting; STUPID ass story line; chock full of cliches and a rapper pulling kung fu on Myers. Is anyone going to HONESTLY ** take that hunk of dung over RZ’s flicks?
The only way I can imagine so is if there was some emotional attachment to it like if it was someones first Halloween film or whatever.

didn’t like the webcam look either…i was talking about the stuff that was shot in 35mm, the Asylum looked great, stuff in house etc. RZ’s cinematographer did a bang up job and ill give credit where credit is due on that…but the storytelling in RZ’s movies are just…

Yeah I agree about the asylum and the house interior. Sadly imo there was a lot that could have worked with the film. In the hands of a better writer and director it could have been cool. The “mtv” feel killed it. And Buster Rhymes!!!

I didn’t say I liked the film, because it’s my least favorite of the sequels. I just don’t talk bad about any of the sequels because there are those, although probably very few, that did like the film. I never get on here and bash Robs films in the RZ forum, not my thing. I don’t want to offend those who enjoyed the film.
