Now, I havent been on mm.net in a while due to my computer crashing. Im now moved to PA from NC and am wondering if you guys have ever had this happen to you.
For the past 7 years in North Carolina while living with my parents I made an elaborate haunted house in my back yard with my buddies. I always played the role of Michael Myers and all my other friends all the other horror characters. It was in a neighborhood and always a great success all the kids loved it along with my friends and family. Me and my girlfriend moved to Pittsburgh so I can finish college and am in no area to build a haunted house or do anything like that on Halloween. Quite frankly im depressed about the whole Halloween situation and dont know what to do since im not gonna be at home anymore to carry on my tradition. Over the years it became a part of me and something that I looked forward to every year, now I dont have that anymore.
So guys if you would like to post a Halloween tradition or a similar story to help me relate or post to give me some new ideas to do on Oct 31st
You’re not alone. For a handful of years, I built elaborate setups with fog, lighting, relays, animatronics, controllers, pneumatics, etc… I really got into the deep stuff, and it’s quite a fulfilling hobby. I used to invest 3-4 months of work each year. I have a deep passion for spreading the Halloween spirit, but unfortunately, many adults/kids in my immediate area no longer do. The numbers of Trick-or-Treaters has dwindled & there has been bad experiences lately e.g. lack of any appreciation, kids/parents/after-party guests going out of their way to be rude, way too much stress/effort for just one person, etc…
So, this year, I’m throwing in the towel… kind of, and it’s an idea you might entertain. I’m going to try to co-op with another haunter(s) for the big day, weather permitting. I’m looking for a haunter who is just passionate but has a better location, heavy traffic & positive attitude in their area. In return, I offer my expertise & helping hands on props & setup as well as being a live actor for their haunt. Instead of trying to resuscitate my “dead” location, we both will win; I don’t have to slave over props & I will enjoy myself much more in a new & higher “more scares” traffic setting.
As I’m finalizing my “tech costume” for my return as Michael Myers this Halloween, a thread I will share with everyone here soon, I will be seeking a co-op through networks like Halloween Forum & Garage Of Evil, whom both have Facebook pages for networking. I’m certain I will find someone who wants to recruit me within a reasonable distance, and hopefully you will too if this idea seems like a good solution.
Maybe even consider working at a local haunted house establishment. I’ve always considered that! I’m figuring that as something to do on the weekends following up to the big day, and would give me a solid opportunity to put my custom tech to generous use

always helped run a descent haunted autraction with 100 plus people a night, first year without it, I am going nuts, been looking for people to help, you know the want add, you see this time a year. they want to you to act, then pay you crap, lol i want to get on the ground floor again… that was my tradition, also this is the first year, i have run out of kids to take trick or treating. think i would get flagged as a Child predator if i put an add on CL wanting you children fo ToT, lol so this year a lonely uneventful ween
You & me both, bro. There’s always time to make friends & get to know people.
I’ve heard some “haunt legend” names tossed about & joined some discussions but that’s about it. I really don’t know anyone personally. 2 years back, I was demoing one of my animatronics on the Halloween Forum & I randomly received an invite to join a seminary haunt a few states away, which was running for 3 nights with roughly 500-800 annual visitors. The couple appreciated my work so much & wanted it for their haunt, they were so friendly & passionate. They even offered a free place to stay for those nights, but I already had plans in effect for that time. That would have been so sick!
Point is, you just never know what’s gonna happen, but you’ve got to at least try & make some connections. Haunters mostly are passionate & about the spirit, it’s such an easy thing to bond over & have an awesome time. We’re like flies, we’re everywhere, especially here in the U.S. I’ve talked to many foreigners & they wish there was just a fraction of the enthusiasm we have here where they live.
Like I said, hit up those networks & see who’s local. Drop a few messages & see what happens. The Garage Of Evil networks all seem very friendly with a strong sense of community & helping out. See if there’s one in/around your area & hit up the forum or their Facebook if they have one e.g. “Hey, I’m local here & looking to… etc”. I highly doubt you won’t find anyone, especially in Pittsburgh…

Yea me and my girlfriend aren’t brand new too the area. I have a bunch of friends up here but they are into the whole college halloween partying which isnt halloween to me. All my Halloween goo-rooos are down south. I like haunted houses and stuff like that but doing the scaring to me is a huge part of halloween for me. Id rather scare than be scared its fun seeing the looks on ppls faces. Ill look into some of the sites you mentioned and look around, hopefully I find something before this halloween becomes a waste…
