This is something that has been bothering me for quite sometime. How many copies of “Halloween” the accidental Tv version Released by Media Home Entertainment back in 1990 were released before catching the mistake? I actually have one and would like to know how much it could be worth if I ever wanted to sell it (which I never plan on doing). Check the pic below for my copy of this VHS.
I could be wrong, but I think it would be worth about as much as the regular version. I know from experience that it’s hard to even give away VHS movies these days.
Besides the extended version (which includes the tv scenes) was released on dvd anyway…so
Wow I never knew they goofed like that, cool! Man to be honest only few VHS these days are worth anything. The ones that are worth money are still not printed on dvd
I have one!
So at least we know they made two copies
Media actually didn’t know for a while that they used the wrong master. When my friend contacted them back around 90/91 they were just getting asked questions about the Halloween they put out and why it was edited; that’s what people were upset about, it being edited and nothing about the extra footage from tv version in there. When you called Media and told them you have a “weird/edited/odd version” they would ask for you to send it to them and they would replace it with the normal version. Here is the part that hurts, Media just re-recorded over the tapes they received back with the normal version.
A lot of copies made it out, a lot, and I bet, many are still out there. I have 2 and my friend Jim has 2 on VHS and 1 on Beta.
PS-Our boxes of the TV version released by Media look totally different, the old boxes with the white Media bottom, which now leads me to believe that they released the same wrong master not only once, but twice!
This style of box…

Here are some photos if anyone is interested. The one in black is the TV version. The Media with the white around it I bought actually sealed on ebay, but after a few years, I had to open it to see if it was another TV version or not (of course it still has the original media wrap, just a small slit at the bottom) I like the Halloween Letters on the side with a small picture of a pumpkin. I thought it was a nice touch. I keep it in the snow glob set for fun.
yea they definetly released it wrong twice. I have a copy of it on the old white border 81 style slipcase also. not sure the year of the cassette though.
