Hopefully we can behave like adults here. Just sharing some love for big Mike on this day. Anyone else like RZH more than H40?
Great art, but nah.
I definitely like it more than the new movie. The first half of Mike’s childhood is epic. The sequel I have to rewatch, haven’t really seen it since 2009.
The sequel is what divides a lot of fans, though I personally like it more haha. It dared to be different and gave us something fresh that we hadn’t seen before.
Thanks!
Few detail shots of the masks
Thanks!
I’m really glad I grew up when I did and was able to experience H78 when it first came on the scene. I believe it’s much more appreciated & loved that way. The RZ stuff just don’t do it for me. That’s not Halloween & definitely not the boogeyman. Just another murder movie. Myers with a trashy back story? No thanks Don’t get me wrong, I really dig most of RZ’s other stuff so in no way am I a hater. Just stating my opinion.
(In no way am I trying to start a shit storm. If you don’t agree with this that is fine. This is my opinion & that would be yours. I would never try & get anyone to agree with me if they don’t so please, keep it respectful)

This ^. Here’s my little backstory: I was born in July of 81’, but my first Halloween movie was part 2, then part 1. It was USA Up All Night, I was 8, and of course I demanded to stay up late that Saturday night to watch the scary movies that would be on. I missed the start of it, which is how I ended up seeing part 2 first. Then they had an encore of part 1 following it, and after that I was hooked. Hooked because both films scared the crap out of me as an 8 year old.
Ever since then they stood the test of time as my all time favorite horror films. My first Halloween movie that I owned was part 4 on VHS, a couple years after I saw the first two on TV. I liked it, but it wasn’t those first two films. I remember as a kid I was annoyed that Michael’s mask was so odd compared to the first two films, and that’s when this whole love for the look of the mask started.
The first Halloween I saw in theaters was Halloween The Curse Of Michael Myers. My grandfather took me because he liked the first couple films. While I thought it was fun to see in the theater, I remember really being just immensely confused upon leaving the theater. It did not have the affect on me the first two films did, and it was just weird.
H20 was the next one I would see in theaters, and I didn’t like it. I know, I am probably in the minority there, but all I could think to myself is why is this like Scream? Even has the same music? It was not right at all. I have problems with it to say the least.
Flash forward to RZ’s first Halloween film, I went to the theater to give it a chance, and it just did not feel like Halloween at all. Don’t get me wrong, RZ did a great job with the cinematography and atmosphere feeling like fall and the season of Halloween, but the movie didn’t feel like a Halloween movie at all. In fact it felt more like a story about someone who uses the Michael Myers character as his gimmick to go on his killing spree.
So needless to say, I wasn’t a fan of it. It had its moments, but it was not what Michael Myers was intended to be. The whole white trash family and backstory was outright ridiculous to me. In my opinion, that’s not what Michael Myers is, or came from. It just felt like it would of been better served as a copycat killer movie. Again, just my opinion here.
Then we get to his second film, which I didn’t even want to bother with, but my Wife really wanted to go and see it, so I obliged. Yeah, I hated it, with a passion. Still do.
This is just my opinion and my tastes, by no means does it mean that the RZ films were horrible for someone else who enjoys them. I just didn’t. It’s not for me. But I totally realize that there are younger folks out there who took to those as their first Halloween movies they saw in theaters, or worked for them because of the generation they grew up in. So I do not by any means want to take that away from them. But for me, nah. I’m good. Sorry for the long winded backstory, but hopefully it helps others to see why I have the opinion I do.
As for if I liked it better than H40? No, I do like H40 better, but I don’t hold H40 in a very high regard either. But it was definitely better than most of the other original sequels. It probably sits after part 4 for me, part 4 being my 3rd favorite of the franchise. Part 1 and 2 are my top two, naturally. The oddball Halloween 3 would come up behind that. Yeah, I do like Halloween 3. I feel like part 3’s world would of been better suited for RZ to remake. It’s something that would fit his style better.
Great art though! I can appreciate a good piece of artwork and that’s pretty darn cool man!
Well seeing og michael being decapitated just tugs my heartstrings but hey it’s all in good fun right.
H40 is more enjoyable than RZ, because at least Michael isn’t some giant joke, that said, it’s not as great as it could be, but it’s not the worst compared to other sequels
I have to give the edge to RZ as at least there was some originality. H40 was rather predictable with the rehashed scenes, like the kid with the radio walking into the shape. Didn’t care for the forced humor either. Love both masks though. Would love to find an RZ copy that is close in size to the H40. I know tots is making some but I have a feeling they’re going to be monstrous, as the original was made for an actual giant.
