I need some help dealing with this problem. Today I received the mask and it took me up until now to realise that there are maggots in the hair. I cant think of any really way of dealing with them. I’d like to avoid having to get someone to remove the hair but with how tightly fletted the hair is I probably dont have any other choice.
I’m up for any suggestions.

I’m a biologist, so perhaps I can help. Maggots are insect larvae and, like other insects, they don’t breathe through a mouth. They have a tracheal respiratory system.
I would avoid using bleach, acetone, paint thinner, other solvents, or insecticides directly on the latex, as these could damage the material, affect the paint, or leave harmful residues.
I would first remove the larvae mechanically using tweezers, paper towels, or a disposable brush. Then, wash the mask’s hair with warm water and a mild detergent, making sure to rinse it thoroughly. Finally, let the mask dry completely in a well-ventilated area.
This should help remove the maggots while minimizing the risk of damaging the latex or the paintwork.
The bad news is that finding maggots is usually an indication that there is some organic material decomposing somewhere in or around the mask. In this case, the latex or the hair may be starting to deteriorate.

I’d be taking photos and asking for at least a partial refund. That’s nasty. How long was it in transit? Did the shipping materials seem secure? Is it showing signs of rot (unusual stiffness, gumminess, or discoloration in areas)?
