Hero H4 mask- What do you see?

Which do you see when you envision the Hero H4 mask?

  • Mask A
  • Mask B

Hey, guys! So I was doing some H4 research and came up with some questions that I would love to see answered if at all possible. So we all know that the H4 mask is almost a total mystery, but in the course of trying to identify the origins of the mask used there are a few questions that I havent see asked or answered, so lets get started!

QUESTION 1: When you envision the H4 mask, what do you see?

Mask A:

or Mask B:

For me it is mask “A” all day long

Vote in the poll! I would love some input.

QUESTION 2:

  1. Okay, so I know that the eye cuts started in Kirk form (stage 1):

  1. Then Wilbur enlarged them (stage 2):

  1. Then they were enlarged more (stage 3):

but when did they go from the previous size and shape to those pictured below (stage 4):

I have never heard of a second enlarging of the eyes, so how did they Hero mask’s eyecuts go from stage 3 to stage 4? Were they two entirely different masks, and only one is the true hero? If so, then where is the actual “Hero” mask?

It’s well known that Paul (Crofader) owns the hero mask from Halloween 4, but when doing some research on his mask and others used in the film I found some pretty crazy similarities between Paul’s copy and that which was placed on the mannequin in the scene where Rachel runs Michael over in the truck.

Side note: Paul, if you’d like to weigh in on this and let me know where you got your H4 mask, I’d really appreciate it!

IMPORTANT: I AM IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM CLAIMING THAT PAUL’S H4 MASK IS NOT THE HERO MASK. THIS IS JUST SOMETHING I NOTICED AND WOULD LIKE IT CLEARED UP.

QUESTION 3:

Alright, so when comparing Paul’s “hero” mask to the “dummy mask” I found some pretty interesting stuff and would like some opinions/input…

Here is the “Dummy” mask, which I speak of (on the right):

and here is Crofader’s B-E-A-UTIFUL mask:

Now I took those two photos and put them side by side… check it out.

Look at all of those similarities… right eyecut, the eyebrow placement, the similarities in the hairline… To show just how similar they are, I laid them over top of eachother and it resulted in the following…

So what do you guys think? Does anyone have an answer to the questions that I’ve asked? Let me know! Thanks for reading and as always, have a great day!

Keep in mind, not all promoshots used the Hero and they kept repainting these masks on set causing them to look different from one scene/pic to another. Also the pic from that Anchor bay poster is in reverse

Also that full pic of the assumed dummy, the right guy is also pointing the finger to the left. Not even sure that is a dummy

----I did keep that in mind- and even then I am still confused. In the MM.net photo gallery, mask “B” is listed as the Hero H4 mask. But the mask in Jamie’s bedroom scene (Mask A) is also considered to be the hero. I can’t imagine there being more than 1 hero mask for the film…

----In regards to the paint- yes I knew that they were extensively repainted, but would that have caused a difference in the shape of the eye cuts?

----I reversed that shot because it should be reversed, since it already was once. Take a look at the breast pocket on Wilbur in the full, non-reversed photo:

No pocket flap.

On the original H4 coveralls, the right breast pocket had a flap. For example, Lamson78’s pair and the SU pair.

and here on the SU:

If the picture hadn’t been reversed once, then there would be a breast pocket flap visible; therefore, it needs to bed reversed a second time to be returned to its original format. Also, the eye cuts don’t match up between the BTS shot and the movie screen shot unless the BTS shot is flipped.

Found the full photo and posted it above, sorry about that. I didn’t realize it had been cropped. Even if it isn’t a dummy that doesn’t affect my point (that the second mask in that photo isn’t the hero).

Also two other things.

  1. I’d love to see your opinion in the poll, K.

  2. Does anyone know where the neck extension went from Paul’s mask? Again, I’d love it if you weighed in, Paul . Who better to provide info on this topic than the man who owns the original!

I’m saying the the first poster(Myers Monday) on top is reverse, not the dummy pic. I know U flipped that(dummy shot) correctly, I was the first guy who stated it was flipped in reverse back in the day.lol
I’m asking if that is actually a dummy?lol
Yes Paul confirmed its his mask.Yes you are correct on that.

Ohh! Lol, sorry for the confusion. Interesting that you were the first to state it! Had no idea . I do not know if it is actually the dummy. It very well could be and the hand just be posed, but I do suppose it could have also been a stunt double. When/how was it 100% confirmed? Also- do you know what happened to the neck extension that would/should have been on his mask?

I’m not saying that Paul’s mask isn’t the hero, but the extreme similarities between his and that on the mystery (until we figure out if it’s a dummy ) mask… the eyebrows, eye cuts, hairline. The similarities are there for sure.

EDIT: Fixed that MyersMonday photo

Fantastic topic!!

Thanks guys! I just love the mystery of the H4 masks. It will never stop being so interesting, unless it gets solved of course!

Awesome pics, K! Thank you very much for those. But I still don’t understand 2 things- where did the neck extension go on Paul’s mask and how did the proper left eye cut change so drastically between Stage 3 and 4? It went from a sharp, jagged cut to a more round oval shape. Were they enlarged a second time? I doubt that just because they painted the mask over and over that it caused the eye cut to change.

Also here is a promo shot that I stumbled upon today. Pretty awesome shot!

I have a question that you guys would be ae to answer for me why is the mask on the poster and boxart so much different then the mask that is used in the movie and what is the best looking h4 mask you can buy and where

The poster mask looks so difference because it is a sketch created from this behind the scenes photo from H2, not meant to resemble that H4 mask:

Check the galery for H4 masks. Whichever one suits your image of him, I say go for it!

Great thread! To answer your first question, I envision the H4 mask as “mask A”

I like the h4 mask, my absolute favorite in the entire movie though is the blond Kirk used in the school scene,…just because it’s the one time an actual blond/flesh Kirk is worn by Myers. (even if it is technically a mistake it’s in the movie.)

One of the reasons I can’t take the H4 mask seriously is because it reminds me of this:

I love Star Trek and Data, but that same sense of artificiality is in the H4 mask and it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe with more weathering or for a character other than The Shape.

Thanks! It’s an older one haha.

Seeing it always makes me chuckle haha
