Hobby seems to be going through a slow period

Has anyone else noticed the hobby going through a bad period ? good masks in the groups arent selling and things just seem dead lately. Its sad to see, ive definitely noticed it for awhile now.

It definitely has a lot to do with the massive inflation and problems with the world right now.
Everyone last year and 2020 were going crazy with collecting and buying but all hobbies are taking a big hit now not just Myers.
Plus it’s summer time, closer to September/October things always pick up

I collect 1/6th figures, and a ton of new collectors joined the hobby during lockdown. They are starting to drop like flies now due to inflation and people just wanting to get out of it.

This happens with any hobby and It’s currently hit or miss with this one. Not too many getting on deck at the moment.
Also, keep in mind with all the mass producing with TOT masks that has changed the collecting ideologies for some. I’ve recently gotten in on a few good deals. The natural inclination of collectors will change swiftly back as we head into the late summer months. JMO.

For many it’s difficult to justify spending $300 + on a mask when likely all of that is now needed just to drive.

It’s not just the prices of masks, also making them has driven up the costs, and the economy for every country has practically gone off like a bomb, so day to day living is getting harder, even just putting food on the table, I’ve even put my making of stuff on hold, just due to prices of food and gas

Yea inflation is nuts right now so I’m sure every hobby is slow. I have 3 mask on the way but I’m diffently gonna buy one more h1 mask but not sure who I want right now. Tough decision since so many artist I really like

This! Some of the prices people are asking for a mask are just insane, especially with the way things are these days.

I guess it depends on your individual circumstances. I’ve only recently gotten into this as a hobby and I’m fortunate in that I can afford to indulge myself, so for me it feels like a boom time. There have been new movies and still more to come; the debate over coveralls and knives in H1 seems to have been settled only in the last three or four years; recently Creepy Customs have brought out the Superior 78s; and many great looking replica knives are becoming available. A screen accurate H1 outfit is now very possible if you’re after that.

I didn’t mean to say that $300 is a lot for a custom mask. I just meant that a lot of people have to put that extra cash aside to live now.

Sorry to hear that. I really hope your situation improves for you.

Its a cycle right now. People are selling masks to afford life, but people dont really have the extra cash to buy them.

Inflation and the time of year are factors as previously stated but there have always been ups and downs. As Fall, Halloween Ends and the big day all get nearer I expect things to get moving more. Although not as much as usual cause I expect inflation will be quite a bit worse by then too.

Yeah thats true too. Remember the “lull” before the 2018 release here on the forum? It was pretty much all the same people all the time. Then when the new one’s trailer released it created alot more fans it sure seemed like.

Yeah dude just like everyone else said, sadly everything needs so much more money that it’s hard to find the will power to put some towards the hobbies :frowning:

Inflation has caused a lot of people to tighten up a bit with their finances. Hobbies are taking a hit as a result. Before inflation hit us a little over a year ago I was already fed up with the prices that people were asking for their masks. I’ve seen so many masks for sale in upwards of 1000 to 1500 dollars just because a certain someone finished it. Are you kidding me? Really? Good luck with those masks and those prices.

But anyway, the hobby always picks up a bit as we approach Fall.

I agree but 1500 for mask is insane . Honestly majority of the guys I see spending high amounts are just resellers anyways

This! Some of the prices people are asking for a mask are just insane, especially with the way things are these days.

100%… I remember just a few years ago you could regularly find notable second-hand masks on eBay for $200 to $300… (which is below the cost of a new one) made sense to me, so I bought quite a few…

However, price has exceeded demand greatly… Wonder why. $… . Eventually, the equilibrium price range will be found in the market for second-hand masks…whio knows when…

Wait until September or October. Sure last year wasn’t as bad inflation wise but the lull was bad before the film dropped. I sold a grail piece of mine foolishly last summer thinking the hype was starting for the new film. Barely got half of what I paid. Then in September I sold 3 h40/kills rehauls for 5x what I paid for them. So I’m thinking fall will bring back the usual interest. I also think casual collectors have different interests than us more serious types. h40/kills Rehauls are the name of the game rn, just look at what Simon brandolino is getting. Any time Simon drops a rehaul on insta it sells in minutes for 800+. Nick Mulpagano market is still strong on his personal ebay too. Seems like nag/jc market has stymied some, at least in the case of those looking to get 1000+. You really have to have something special to get that in the non-fall time of year-and as someone who exclusively uses ebay to buy stuff I haven’t seen anything deserving of 1000 bucks in a while. yes that price is stupid I agree, but like used cars, that’s just the market right now. Some prices are just here to stay because people are willing to pay them. Not sure when, if ever, that will change.

This hobby tends to have it’s cycles.
I’ve seen it crash and soar quite a few times over the years.
