HORRORHOUND's TOP 10 80s SLASHER FLICKS

I can’t believe in that latest issue of HORRORHOUND MAGAZINE (March/April), they skipped over HALLOWEEN II when naming their Top 10 QUINTESSENTIAL SLASHER flicks of the 1980s!

10 - APRIL FOOL’S DAY
9 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME
8 - SLEEPAWAY CAMP
7 - PROM NIGHT
6 - THE BURNING
5 - TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PT. 2
4 - MY BLOODY VALENTINE
3 - CHILD’S PLAY
2 - A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
1 - FRIDAY THE 13TH

H2 is so underated–it should be in the top 3 if you ask me.

WTF HH?!?

What the hell is that…Sometimes you wonder if people were actually watching the movies they saw…Some on that list deserve to be on the list for sure but I cant believe they posted 4,7,8,9 and 10 before Halloween…The others like Jason, freddy, leatherface, and even chucky I could understand…Only because Each of these films have a select fanbase…I mean lets face it you have your myers guys, freddy guys, leatherface and chucky fans…Some just enjoyed those characters more than others…But the others over Halloween I cant…Was H2 better than H1 no, but it was a great 2nd films to the original and a great movie in general…IMO much better than the others on that list…I mean I think it should be #1 and thats not just because Im in the myers fanbase…I just think it was a better horror movie than others in general…A few on that list I kinda thought were bad…Or I just didnt enjoy them…In any event you can have 100 different people with 100 different list anyway…I guess it only matters what we think right :sunglasses:

Well, that’s a biased opinion and I wouldn’t put too much stock in it. I can see a couple of those movies beating out H2 simply because they weren’t sequels, but yeah H2 should be high on that list. Just keep in mind that it’s someone’s opinion and that doesn’t really mean much.

Yeah, and what about:

Texas Chainsaw 2 made the list and Halloween 2 didn’t? IMO Chainsaw 2 is unbearable.

.

Exactly. I kind of felt that they were only choosing from titles that have been recently re-released on DVD.

Your’e right, THE PROWLER deserved to be in the top 10, and probably MANIAC too.

I love TCM2, but it is debatable if it is a “slasher film”. This is the one that bothered me the most–being that TCM2 is the only sequel on the list, and therefore shows that it wasn’t because H2 is a sequel that it wasn’t chosen.
HALLOWEEN II is a true slasher film if ever there was.

How about He Knows Your Alone, Visiting Hours (Shatner!) or Dark Night of the Scarecrow? Loved them all as a kid.

WTF! Another reason I don’t read that magazine.

Terror Train
The Funhouse
Halloween II
The Prowler
Friday the 13th, the Final Chapter

I like these movies but AFD, HBTM and SC could be taken off…especially Sleepaway Camp…it wasn’t that good.

PHANTASM II

MADMAN!!!

YES!

Wow… what a list. I agree with maybe the first 6… but 7-10 are really out there for me. Decent slashers, but not at the top… no way.

I’d put these movies in their place

-H2
-The Shining
-The Prowler
-The Stepfather
-Terror Train

I’d even put Maniac up there before Happy Birthday to Me… but hey, that’s why we all have opinions lol.

How is Terror Train not on there!?!?

I agree with all of you. No offence to “Happy Birthday to Me” but I a number of films you guys listed would be above that film for me.

Not my top ten picks but all good films

The original 1979 PHANTASM definitely has SLASHER FILM qualities-- with the sexy blond stabbing the men she lures to the graveyard, and was definitely the most off beat/surreal horror flick predating the original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET–but, PHANTASM II came along well after the slasher film boom and IMO, doesn’t really have the ingredients of a slasher flick.

This list was HorrorHounds picks for 1O QUINTESSENTIAL 80s SLASHER FILMS, not 10 best 80’s horror films. That’s why it was so disappointing to not see HALLOWEEN II mentioned. Like PSYCHO II is to PSYCHO, I think that H2 is generally overshadowed by the classic status of the original…

HE KNOWS YOU’RE ALONE, THE STEPFATHER–good calls

As well as H2, I would have put An American Werewolf in London on my list…

I agree Halloween 2 should definitely be in the top three, and at the very least top five  Although I do like Prom Night I think Terror Train is a better movie. The prowler should also be in there somewhere

American Werewolf is one of my all time favorites and has one of the best throat slashings scenes in David’s Nazi-werewolf nightmare, but it’s not a SLASHER flick.

Yeah Halloween 2 and 4 are on my top 10 list
