How big a deal is the H1 knife for you?

Lamson vs. Case

  • Lamson for nostalgia
  • Case for accuracy
  • Either one

Hey all this is a question I am genuinely wondering about. So basically for 30+ years we saw the original knife in 1978 as a Lamson. So much so that when TOTS decided to release a non-foam “higher quality” knife, it was a direct cast of the Lamson that DirtKnap FX had been making at the time.

I know we now know the Case was the official knife used. For me, I only have 2 knives. The first I ever had was with a stand James made custom for me which is a beautiful Lamson but not heavy at all in weight. And since that stays in the middle of the stand, I wanted to get another.

So in 2017 it was right before Halloween, wanted a DirtKnap but knew chances were slim. He was kind enough to sell me his personal knife and even signed the bottom of the stand for me. It is beautiful, but again, a Lamson.

I am a purist and preservationist of all that is old Halloween. But tbh I couldn’t care less about the Case being the accurate knife. All of my best memories here are of Kaizu, Phil, Benn7 & others posting awesome photos with the Lamson. They were beyond accurate and K had a special talent for making the photos damn near 100% movie accurate by editing his own masks and knives into photos.

So for those who know me I have weird mental things going on but for me Lamson always is synonymous with Halloween for me. I prefer the nostalgia and can’t look past it. The fact it looks nearly identical and nobody from the set even knew what was used made the Lamson as symbolic as the Elrod.

Obviously if you came to me with the exact model used of a real Case from 1978 that’s a different story. So yeah I know the reality but prefer what was our belief when the forum was just a chat room. I can’t get rid of nostalgia thus have zero interest in getting a Case or even trading either Lamson I own for a Case. I just wanna get a feel for how the majority feel. Obviously everyone is free to vote but I’d prefer those who knew the Lamson as accurate for a decade plus and how they feel.

TLDR;

I’m a flat earther and refuse to believe anything but a beautiful Lamson was jabbed into people in 1978 by my good friend Michael

Are there no Case replicas being made? I wouldn’t be surprised to see TOTS make one sooner than later .

Tons of people make them, but TOTS just doesn’t do a good job at all, I also got Lucky and scored a Vintage Lamson from the 1940’s that has a 19" blade, why? because it’s nostalgia of the forums for me, but I would still love to get the real deal

That’s my point I guess. TOTS worked with Dirtknap FX not more than a few years ago before the knife revelation was made. And they sold out of basically every Party City in the area.

There are now tons of Case replicas either in final process or already available. Even James made a couple last year? Something like that. But the knives look so similar and you literally grip the handle  all those details don’t matter to me at all. Nostalgia will always have me remembering a Lamson in the film. I’m a flat earther shown with proof I don’t care. It reminds me of the early days when this was a message board basically chat room and everybody was on NightowlPro forums.

See man this is what my grail knife would be. That is gorgeous. The nostalgia kicks in IMMEDIATELY. When I look at this blade I see the film. I was wondering if I was alone in this. I won’t vote to skew results, but I guess I could potentially say either one.

The way you worded it makes me realize if somebody offered me the exact model from the exact year I’d be thrilled. The fact the rivets are different on all these Case knives and they aren’t EXACT makes me wonder why I’d bother  “well this was the brand used in the film just not the exaxt knife” - great, I’ll stick with my Lamson :jack_o_lantern:

I love Dirtknap’s FX work, I unfortunately sold the Lamson to fund a mask, but I had that knife for a few years. Looking back, I should not have sold it.

I still have that kick ass elrod knife he did for me! I asked him to make it as gnarly, damaged, and bloody as possible, that knife is staying with me until I die, one of my favorites in the collection and never selling it. Nostolgia factor and also it’s a damn great looking knife!

Ughh man I feel this in my heart. Flip the script that’s exactly what I did :pensive: I sold my Elrod not realizing I’d never get another. You’re lucky dude. As someone who held one and understands the weight and just precision wow. :100: a grail knife for ANY fan of 1981!

For me, the kind of knife never really mattered as much as the look. Is it nice to know the brand and model of knife in the movie? You bet your butt. But it’s not a necessity to me. Michael has used so many different knives over the years.

Agreed! H1 went from the big butcher knife then H2 was the sleek scalpel. CLASSIC! All the movies had moments of choice weaponry for the brutal slayer! Doesn’t really matter which knife or weapon it is, it’s the vibe Michael Myers puts off whenever he is lurking around or chasing someone down for slaughter or just pops out of no where just because he can. Loved Halloween Kills how he had the dude slumped over the table and just kept knifing him selectively with one piece from the kitchen, one right after another. The scene is totally choice! Another scene I still love to this day is Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers, when Michael Myers has the knife on the rooftop and is chasing Jamie and Rachel like a looney-tune! SICK! Knives look great in these scenes but it’s all about Michael Myers vibe! Saw H4 when I was younger, movie still rocks!
