How do you straighten crepe hair?

I’ve received the crepe hair I ordered and now I must straighten it. How do you straighten it?

I believe you are supposed to use a smoothing iron to straighten it. I have some crepe hair myself I have yet to use but I’d think this is the only way to go about it.

Here’s what I use for mine.

  1. Cut 4-6 inch strips of the crepe hair
  2. Soak the hair in water for 1-2 minutes
  3. Shampoo and Condition the hair (I use a certain brand but I doubt it matters)
  4. Let the hair air dry
  5. Straighten it with a normal plug in straightener. I use a mini one that I picked up for about 5 bucks.

Then I just repeat this process while simultaneously pulling the hair around until the lock is about 1 inch in width.

EDIT: The shampooing and conditioning softens the hair and gives it that shine and silky look you see in the original DP hair.

Sorcery, it’s the only way!

I’ve always been told to unwrap it from the braid, then place it in hot water on the stove for a minute or so, then take the long strand out, pat off excess water, then leave out to air dry. For additional straightness, I have seen some put a weighted object on one end and hang it.

I used to put it in warm water then hang it out to drip dry.
