Yep, there are MANY of us in this same boat. Made it onto his list and then nothing.
I can’t fault James, though. I feel bad for him.
Providing something for the hobby, while juggling the difficulties of real life can be completely overwhelming. It was for me. I hope he is happier now.
See you’re a good person with empathy. As of now he has 150 unfulfilled orders but they’re just blanks. I am unsure if he will ever finish them again, but I guess seeing so many get sent to JC made blanks an easier option.
I’ve been on his list since 2022 but yeah man. When my cousin died I couldn’t even post on any social media. The fact he fought through and through shows genuine strength. He’s been dealing with life but his sculpt is alive and well. I cannot give a definitive date as I have cPTSD and mental health has to come first. But I can promise you that he’s a man of his word. I haven’t asked but with 150+ waiting I don’t believe he will open the list again, but guarantee every person WILL get their ID mask.
I keep James and his family in my prayers. Life comes first and honestly it is cruel to many of us. The love you all have shown him doesn’t go unnoticed. When he’s ready he will let back in on here and do it like it was originally and see if the person still wants their.mask if not going to the next guy. Also I’m unsure when you got on the list but basically EVERYBODY who saw the sculpt wanted one. This led to over 10 people getting passed on as they didn’t even have the money
I gotta say out of the 150 I’d be shocked if even 100 came through with the $. Idk if you pray but at least keep him in your thoughts. I know he will prevail and the emptiness will be filled. He’s an amazing human-being and honest. I know it’s taken time but it’ll happen sooner than later I pray
I just wanted to chime in and state for the record that James has 0 unfulfilled orders. I’m sure you meant no ill will with this comment, but I felt compelled to have this in here in case someone interprets that the wrong way. Everyone that paid him for a mask got one. It’s one of the reasons he did the list like he did, the only way someone got a mask is when he got to their name, and payment was sent upon request.
Ah thank you for this comment. I was referring to the amount of people from the original thread which asked to be a part of the project and added to the list but NEVER paid or had their name called up.
This loser Spencer Storseth has spread the rumor that it was a limited run. Entirely negating the tragedies James has experienced. The 150 people are simply those who wanted a copy but yeah you’re entirely correct. He’s a great person and if your name popped up, you got your mask. He just had to take a mental break and people complained but even the blanks were gorgeous.
If you don’t mind me asking brother when was the last time you spoke to him? Life hits hard and once I saw he uninstalled Messenger I’ve been worried about him. I hope he has a support system. My hugest fear was he isn’t with us any longer due to the complete silence
I’ve been on the list since 2020, and have always had the money. That number doesn’t add up compared to where I am on the list. I’ve actually moved on from it, I’m not owed anything nor do I expect anything. If one day I get a message, then cool, if not, then cool.
This is exactly how I view the situation. James doesn’t owe anything to anyone.
I modeled the way I handle my transactions after his approach. No money involved until the piece is done and the customer is happy. It’s the best way to provide the hobby with something.
Such a shame that one of the best Myers sculpts in history is so close but so far out of reach. I really wish he licensed out the mold to another mask maker that could start knocking out the list.
I’ll be honest. For me it’d feel disingenuous. For example I know that after his untimely death, Sam McCain’s HSS 75c was produced by new artists. It lost all prestige. The fact that it wasn’t the actual sculptor finishing these masks was just weird. Firstly they weren’t finished as well but it just made me feel weird.
In such a case I do feel that it is a form of honoring a dead man. Sam McCain was probably my closet friend and even explaining rhe process I had NO idea how he made the life-size Terminator 2 piece. Truly a one of a kind artist.
The ID is a groundup sculpt. With his own two hands we got to see James in each stage of the process. It looked so good he even wrote his name (or ID?) with the date into the sculpt to prove it was real. And remember brother he isn’t done. He never announced that he wouldn’t be producing more masks.
James Mangrum is an amazing person in general and a truly great artist. I look at it in the same light as JC. His waitlist is nearing a decade. 10 years. People wait a decade for a mask it’s just very odd that this hobby is what it is but prestige means more than anything. If somebody gave me an ID for free that James Mangrum didn’t have a hand in, I’d give it back.
Mental health is raw. And it is real. When he’s ready people will get their masks. Patience is a virtue but if people want to jump the gun there are ID masks constantly being sold for a lot more than the original price.
Sorry for the tangent. Nothing to do with you at all actually but some people on Facebook never cease to amaze me. Imagine already having these personal issues and little groups that continue to care less about his life but continue TO THIS DAY* to ask for masks? It’s disgusting. When he’s ready he’s ready and if another isn’t ever created I’m fine with that as long as he leads a happy life.
Messages to the extent that he complete got rid of Messenger and disconnected from social media entirely.
I want a legit copy of the ID with a spot on finish and some other masks that have my attention as well. Maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to find a cheap storage locker filled with someone’s “Dream Man Cave Items” complete with masks, a pinball machine, pool table, jukebox, music equipment, black light posters, old vinyl records, comic books, toys, and other movie memorabilia.
