How should a Michael Myers mask fit?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, and I have some questions about the actual fit of the original mask and the replicas that are available. For years I have worn the Don Post masks and the one I currently own is the 2008 version. It fits very nicely, not tight, or very loose.I am thinking about purchasing a custom mask and I’m wondering how it should fit.

I’ve heard that the mask worn in the original Halloween was very small and was very tight on Nick Castle. However when I watch the film that doesn’t appear to be the case. In many scenes the mask looks like it has a little give to it, and looks a bit loose on Castle’s head.

Should the mask be tight against your face after it is pulled into place, or should it just slip right on without having to stretch it over your chin and make a few adjustments. I’m just curious what the experts, the fans and mask collectors have to say about this subject. Any advice at all to guide me in the right direction will be much appreciated.

Also I saw the Nightowl Creep mask and it is just a work of art, can anyone here tell me where to go to purchase this beauty? I tried to find it with no success.

Thanks for your time…

nothing’s worse than a bobblehead myers, lol…

There are SO many factors to determine the right answer. Most independent mask makers produce masks that are designed to look like the mask looked on Nick Castle or Dick Warlock when they wore it.That is a great thing to own, since any person with an average sized head can wear it and look like the character. However,I think we still have to see mask that looks like THE mask unworn and becomes the character,WHEN worn.Bryan Hoffman at Masket Case Studios may have very well done that with the HMK mask.

Thing is there are factors, like I previously stated.

1.Overall size of the mask
2.Features
3.Most importantly,in my opinion,the “pull”,or thickness of the mask

All of those things, with the addition of paint, lighting, etc. make the perfect mask.

To be honest,a mask like the Creep or Psycho, you want it to fit well, but not too tight. You should have some breathing room. With that said,a bit of a tighter fit may give you a Warlock-like stretch and look.

Castle and Warlock both stated the mask was rather snug.
It also looks different when Tommy Lee wallace is wearing it.
The mask was very thin, not sure how small but it was small enough to distort.
Also latex begins to stretch/distort after long periods of time when worn.
This is caused by the heat from the face thus causing the mask to look bobbley.

You got that right

Randy hit the nail on the head with this one. If my nose wasn’t Streisandish I could possibly show comparison pics - but alas, my Streisandism stretches the eyecuts too much (I could probably cut the back of the mask up further to prevent this - but I don’t want to alter the mask any.)

you dont want a mask to fit too loose or too tight. as stated the original was on the tight side because it was a cheap small made don post mask probably made with intentions for kids to wear trick or treating. so yes the original was small. however, i dont prefer a skin tight mask as it usually distorts and doesnt look like its sculpt when stretched too far.
that being said the size of your head is the most important factor when purchasing a mask. if you have and average size head which is about 23 1/2" then you’ll be fine.
and for a great fit i would recommend a Nightowl mask. i have a 23 1/2" head and every Nightowl mask ive got fits great. i can feel it touching my face, cheek/nose area, but it doesnt squeeze my face. NAG masks are amazing too like the H78 for example but they tend to fit alittle bigger and if i turn my head too far left or right i loose alignment with the eye holes. PM sent.

The only independent mask I’ve ever worn was a Killing Machine, and I felt like the face was too short. If I put the mask on comfortably, I was looking at the back of the top “eyelid.”

Is this normal, or do I have a long face?

Well a major problem with a lot of masks is that the face is too small, because when they cast/recast a mask they don’t take into consideration that the latex shrinks like 20%.

It should measure about 5" from chin to mid-eye for a good fit, but I’ve seen some that measure only about 4" which puts the eyeholes down by your cheeks. Some people like it that way but I think it looks rediculous because they have to tilt their head back just to see.
