How To Remove Gloss From A Mask?

Hi guys, I plan on getting the TOTS 78 mask, but I’m not a fan of the glossy finish it has, so I’d like to remove it for a more matte or at least satin finish. Other than a total repaint, is there any way to remove the gloss without harming the latex? Thanks!

I’m not sure of a method besides a total repaint, but if your just going to go to a Spirit Halloween store to pick one up, you may get lucky and find one without the gloss. My TOTS pre-order copy was somewhat glossy, but nothing terrible.

However I went to my local Spirit Halloween and they had three H78 masks, and while two out of three had a gloss, the third one was not glossy at all, so I grabbed that one. Pure luck of the draw, but it might save some work if you track one down in person.

In this photo, the one on the left is the pre-order copy, and the one on the right is the Spirit Halloween copy I found that was not glossy at all. If you zoom in on that photo you will see that the one on the right is a flat, more satin finish with no gloss. So it would be pure luck of the draw, but it’s possible.

You can use a scotchbrite pad the green potscubbers very gently, or very fine steel wool lighty rubbed on the surface.

Put a little bit of mineral spirits on a rag and rub it down. Works really well. Or a couple coats of matte varnish would work. Airbrush or light coats with a brush. The few I’ve worked on haven’t really been too glossy but I saw a couple in Spirit that were.

you can also dust on with a makeup brush just plain white powder base dry makeup

Do you put anything on the pad, or just use it as it is?

Just use it as is, dont press hardat all. just lightly go over the area in a circular motion, you only want to do it lightly to scuff the clear coat not
get near the paint underneath

You might be able to spray a matte finish over it. Try it on the back of the mask in a small area first.

Ive always used clear matte. Works like it should
