How to weather RZH1 coveralls?

Hey guys, just bought myself a pair of X02’s from carharrt and was wondering, how the hell do i get them to be the color in the movie? I’ve seen dye get recommended, but it makes the coveralls look too dark. I noticed in the movie it looks more faded with stains. If anyone knows anymore info on the coveralls, i’d love to know. Trying to get these as movie accurate as possible.

Something to keep in mind with dyeing is that the longer you let the coveralls soak in the dye, the deeper the dye sets, and the darker the color will be. I believe this is stated in the instructions on the bottle, too. When I did mine, I soaked it for only a couple hours, about 2 hours max (I can’t remember the exact time). I also did a rinse cycle after the dye job to get any excess out. The darkness you see in these photos is actually from over weathering, and not the dyeing (as seen in the pre-weathered drying photo).

Here’s a post I made about the process I did:

To get the very dark brown look with a slight green undertone, you have to dye the coveralls in Rit dye.

Go to Hobby Lobby or any common craft store and get the 8oz bottle of Dark Brown and Dark Green. Grab 2 24 gallon buckets or a bucket that’s big enough for the coveralls to fit into fully submerged and folded.

Fill one of the buckets with hot water add a full cup of salt and then add the dark green dye and put the coveralls in, mix for 15 minutes. After that, do the same thing in the other bucket but with dark brown dye and put them in for 1-2 hours. then you drain the green dye water put cold water in there and put the coveralls in. After that, hang them up to dry after ringing all the water out.

this will achieve the base color of the coveralls, but you will have to grab 80-grit sandpaper, sharp scissors, and diluted black acrylic paint.

sand all the edges, make some cuts (halfway through the fabric, not full cuts), and sand them to get the fabric to fray. use the black paint to add a dirt effect wherever you need it to be. You can also drag them along a dirty driveway or something to get a grunge and used look to them.

p.s. in the film they flipped the coveralls inside out and cut all the winterized insulation out of them. this will make them more movie-accurate and also much better fitting. I also recommend using Permablood for any kind of blood because it will add a more realistic finish to bullet holes and such.

Hope this helps! I’ll attach pictures of the coveralls I did, but they are weathered for 2009 not 2007.
