I Love Halloween 6 Producer's Cut! Am I Crazy?!

I still remember seeing Halloween : The Curse of Michael Myers opening night at my local theater in September,1995.I somewhat liked the film, specifically the atmosphere and some of the acting. But that ending just killed me, and how disjointed the film felt.

Cut to over 2 decades later, and The Producer’s Cut is finally officially released…and I have to say what a revelation it was to me! The plot holes, now filled in. The music, back to the creepiness of the original. nd the ending now makes sense within the context of the story told.

I now felt I had a completed saga of the series in the proper thorn Trilogy. But I have read and heard many others despise this new version. Am I alone in enjoying it?

Your not alone. I enjoy it because it’s closer to what Daniel Farrands originally intended. It’s still not quite what he originally wrote, but it’s much closer to the source material than the convoluted mess that was the theatrical cut.

Personally I’m not exactly a huge fan of either cut because it’s so far out in left field of what Michael Myers should be, but I also am able to watch it as its own movie, disconnected from the original.

I’m more of an H78 purist, but I enjoy some of the sequels for what they are. H2 and H4 are my all time favorite sequels in the franchise, with H6 having a spot due to the nostalgia of it being the first one I saw in theaters. I thought it was a mess even back then seeing it for the first time, and of course over the years finding out about the alternate cut I was intrigued to say the least to see what the difference was.

I remember on the Halloween 25 years of terror dvd set, Daniel Farrands said they were doing everything they could to get it officially released. Well over a decade after that set came out, they finally released it.

So many years later I picked up the limited box set that came out which included the official release of that cut for the very first time. I was happy to finally see it. I refused to watch those bootleg versions because they looked like garbage as far as picture quality.

I was happy with it in the fact it did make more sense in the end, and also gave Loomis more screen time which is probably my favorite thing about it. My other favorite thing is they absolutely nailed the feel of the season of Halloween and Fall time atmosphere. It’s so rich in atmosphere. So those are my two favorite things about it. It’s one seriously out there storyline, but I can have fun with it.

So at the end of the day, I like it for what it is, and I view it as its own standalone Myers tale. In my mind its unrelated to the original film. It’s more of a comic book-esque rendition of Myers, much like there are several iterations of Batman in the comic world. So that’s how I view it.

I pretty much am not a huge fan of everything that came after it except the recent H2018, but that has it’s share of problems in its own right. H2 and H4 are the only ones that feel like a true continuation of the original story. After that it’s been choose your own adventure. Even H2018 is in its own world in my mind, even though it’s billed as a direct sequel to the original.

I can find things in each of the sequels or even the RZ ones that I like, but it’s more bits and pieces than the entirety of any of those films. It helps when you view them with the comic book mentality in mind, where your getting these different versions of the story and character that sort of exist each in their own universe. So that’s my take.

It has a special place in my heart as well. As a kid, I remember the rumours of this alternate version all the kids talked about at school. I remember searching every corner of the early internet just hoping to catch a glimpse of this rarity, and hoping it was not just a rumour. I’m sure others feel this way as well.

I have never seen this cut. Still, H6 is one of my all-time favorite Halloween movies and I don’t think anything in it needs further explanation.

Damn that’s cray cray :open_mouth: you should totally check out the Producer’s Cut. Compared to the theatrical cut its way better and makes more sense story wise. It’s what the movie was originally intended to be.

Yeah I can’t imagine watching the theatrical cut and not coming out of it confused beyond belief. I know I was and that was in the theater when it came out…

I like the fact that there is a couple of mysteries thrown in the movie.

It works better as a narrative but I miss that atmosphere in the theatrical version. Pros and cons I guess.

Yes you are…Halloween 6 SUCKS!

Excuse me? Why would you think that? The T-Cut leaves so much out and there’s a lot of character development and plot points that the P-Cut provides that makes the movie feel complete. We see how Jamie got kidnapped as there is a flashback scene to after the events of H5, we see more of the Man in Black and his BOOTS (a big thing in H5 which H6 T-Cut cuts entirely), there’s more Loomis and iconic lines on Michael’s evil and we find out what happened to him at the end of H5 where he is beating Michael and then collapses. We learn he had a stroke and retired because of it that this movie doesn’t even explore, he’s just retired. Also, we learn why he doesn’t have his H2 hospital burn scars because he had plastic surgery! The T-Cut doesn’t bother to explain this, he’s just looking normal again. Jamie’s role is extended so she’s not killed off immediately in the barn, more tie-ins with Thorn connecting to the years Michael killed people in (1963, 78, 88, and 89), an ending that actually makes sense to what the movie builds up - Michael needing so sacrifice his last relative and Danny being the next one to take on the curse, Loomis’ send off is better and not so abrupt and ambiguous, etc. the score is more organic with that of the original movie and the tone of the film is just tamer and classic. I don’t mind certain aspects of the T-Cut and it’s modernize elements, but it was a rushed and faced paced mess with disjointing plotlines and unanswered questions.

The only couple mysteries the movie really has is if Michael was given Thorn by a cult or was he chosen by the demon solo and if he really was cursed with Thorn. The T-Cut seems to vaguely imply Michael is simply pure evil, but he has the mark and does what Thorn wants it to do as Tommy teaches and since the ending shows no ritual taking place, it’s all left in the air but that’s not good for the story when you’re telling us in the TITLE he has this curse. That’s actually an issue to present here. It’s alright to leave in mystery, but the T-Cut didn’t bother to explain certain things of itself that the other movies build upon that’s disregarded and ignored entirely that should have been explained. But within it’s own movie, you’re left wondering motivations and build ups which seem contradicting or left hanging. And given the newly filmed ending that had nothing to do with what was building up so far, that really messed things up because we don’t even know what this cult is. Are they druid worshippers or science genetic exploiters? Are there two groups working with Thorn in different way or is the same group? Is Wynn at a conflict with Thorn or not? What about Mrs. Blankenship? What are her ties to Wynn? In the P-Cut, it’s clear since she’s there at the ritual. But that’s gone in the T-Cut and Wynn has some science exploitation with Thorn now so what’s her deal in the story now to still help trap the main characters and take the baby? Is she still present at the house after Tommy and Loomis awaken? She ought to be since there’s no ritual, but this isn’t cleared up nor do the characters bring it up if she’s still around. Danny’s role is absolutely the most jarring because is he going to be given the curse as the movie sets up? The baby seems to be Wynn’s successor to Michael’s evil now which was Danny’s role in the P-Cut. What is his purpose for Danny then? Will be receive the curse through a ritual or some genetic experiment? Why is Kara there since she’s locked in a room and not an altar to be sacrificed like in the P-Cut? See, the T-Cut does more harm and questionable things to the story that makes it CONFUSING and I spent years trying to analyze this film and scratching my head and it’s not good. You can make your assumptions, but the movie does a bad job even giving us the meat of what is the case. This is not the case of leaving in mystery, but more-so bad storytelling as a result of changing up a story at the last minute that never should have been as drastic as it did. And what’s pitiful is, we’d never get the sequel to help answer these questions.

That’s your opinion on the movie, but don’t get it twisted to act like others don’t enjoy it. MANY people love Halloween 6, especially the P-Cut and I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of them around in the Halloween community to even be saying something so ridiculous.

All I was saying is that I liked the T-cut and don’t need to see anything else. If I ever come across the P-cut, I will watch it, of course. But it’s not like I’m dying to see it.

Well you ought to because it’s not some typical/cheezy alternate cut with a few minutes of alterations and it’s basically the same movie. We’re talking a whole third act that’s different with chunks of extended and alternate story points and that’s also heavy throughout the first two acts. More Loomis, Thorn, character development, flashbacks, alternate music, unanswered questions in the T-Cut explored over in the P-Cut that did in fact need further explanation, etc. the list goes on. But most importantly a FLOWING STORYLINE that makes sense and goes somewhere. The amount of questions the P-Cut leaves you off with is a bare minimum compared to the T-Cut.

I also enjoy the T-Cut for what it is, and I get you go too, but I wouldn’t sleep on the P-Cut. If it wasn’t all that, Halloween fans wouldn’t be talking about it so much. It could be it’s own entry in the series with the Resurrection workprint cut coming in a high second because that version of the movie is also very different. You’re gonna wish you had seen this sooner when you eventually do see it.
