I saw H2: differnt for sure.

I have spoliers so don’t read if you haven’t seen it. Or read it if you don’t care either way.

Just watched Halloween 2 and I can say it’s better than Halloween: Resurrection but about as vague as H20 (Not a fan of H20 or H8). Like I said before about the Halloween remake this is not your father’s Halloween. Did this one feel like a Halloween movie? No, not really. It felt like a brute killer coming back to his hometown to hunt down his sister, again. But thankfully a majority of the story is a Laurie tale with some Loomis and Bracket thrown in for continuality. Did this movie really need Loomis? No, he was just a part of the scenery where I think Rob was trying to play more with this man’s guilt over this monster that he didn’t really fix as a child. Loomis was semi likable in the remake but this time around you don’t give a rat’s ass about him. As for Laurie, I like what they have done with her and where she ends up. I think Rob really did watch all the old Halloween movies and pulled pieces of those stories here and there and turned it into his “vision.” Brad Dourif was pretty good this time around as Bracket with his Fu Manchu mustache and his nasty looking hair. Don’t cops have to stay fairly clean cut? Or does having the 70’s/Grunge look mean it’s ok? What year does this movie take place in? As for Anne, does this poor girl every leave her damn house??? Didn’t really see Uncle Coffins but for like 2 mins in the whole movie. Does that mean he was like Jar Jar Binks and they cut his scenes out???

Now the thing I can’t stand the most about Halloween 2 is the Ghost mommy Myers with the white Horse. Kinda lame and done before in another way (Too Jason like). Would have worked with small does, but I feel Rob sees his wife as the Living Dead Girl and wants to glorify her with every chance he gets. Is she a good actress? She has her moments, but I’m really bored of seeing her in his movies. It’s like she has Rob’s ball in her hands, if he doesn’t stick her in his movies, he won’t get them back. As for the new kid playing young Michael, to me he resembled Tyler Mane a lot better than the last kid, but this new kid is quite stale with his acting, maybe that’s what they were going for. The last kid had a little more emotion and life to him.

Still a lot of stuff was left unsaid in this movie like how does Michael survive a bullet shot to the head, all the previous H1 bullet shots from the cops and Loomis didn’t stop him, but obviously hurt him. I guess the strength of the “White Horse” took care of that??? Why couldn’t Loomis try to work with Laurie after the ordeal of part one? Didn’t Michael stop talking before his mom killed herself? I mean they show the video of Loomis telling Michael about her death and he talks a little about it to Loomis. But one thing that I can see why a lot of people got pissed about (maybe the ending was meant to look like this too) was the Dreams. I mean you get sucked into this story and BAM, oh that was just a dream BS. I call that lazy story telling and something that is like a Time Filler, something similar to what Family Guy does from time to time to kill 5 mins in a 30 minute show. It’s called I don’t really have anymore creative ideas to tell a story that needs to be at lest an 1:30 mins long, so I’m going to kill 20 mins and tell a BS story to fill up that gap.

This entire movie isn’t half bad (I love seeing some nice looking Boobies for a change in a Halloween movie  ) There is some good cinematography in parts and then there is some crazy MTV/music video editing thrown in some scenes (a lot like late 90s movies like The Crow 2 and Tank Girl) so this movie is a mixed bag. Lastly the typical Halloween music really doesn’t show up in this story. I can understand not wanting to reuse it over and over again; it’s like beating a dead dog. But you could have used it maybe two times in the whole movie besides the end credits. I did like the nice touch of the old Laurie’s theme at the very end.

Go see this movie at your own risk.

we see pretty much eye to eye on rz H2. my main dislikes were ghost mom, little mikey, and the horse. although rob gives an explanation for that right up front, there was still too many scenes of it in the film. and i didnt care for the ending at all either. but other than that i thought it was a good horror film. Michael just seemed meaner, more angry and just down right unstopable, it was the madest most brutal myers to date. that alone was worth the price of admission to me. all in all it is my 4th favorite Halloween in the series.

Yeah I read the white horse excerpt. I thought it was a tad weak. But I did like the very the end aside from Mommy which Laurie never really got to meet (being a baby doesn’t count).

I did forget to mention I really liked the Knights In White Stain song. Good touch and the damn song stayed in my head all day LOL

Well I can say that for the most part It was more entertaining to me than H8 by a long shot…I absolutely hated H8 and did not enjoy it at all…I liked Brad as Michael and the mask but that was absolutely it…B R Karate kicking michael is total BS…That was horrible and by far the worst scene in the franchise IMO…I thought Robs was OK for a slasher but not a Halloween…But with any movie there were things I liked and things I just could not go for…Just my opinion though…

Hey thanks. I try to be fair before I bash something.
By the way I love your signature.

Reminds me of my review a lot. The whole movie would have been so much better if they left out the whole ghost subplot, maybe if Sheri was in it for a total of 2-3 minutes I wouldn’t mind but she took away from the story. I agree with a lot of what you said though. I actually liked this Michael Myers because he’d pretty much bum rush you in a heart beat. I didn’t mind the grunting as some folks have said in they’re reviews as well it just made Mikey more vicious. Loomis could have been left out though as he didn’t really help the story until the end…It was a good halloween movie but not the best. Maybe top 5.

Agreed .
It’s like the 1st remake: Half Good , Half Bad. But worth a look at none the less.

I agree totally with the whole ‘Filler’ statement. The entire movie seemes to be filler and missing a story. I kept waiting for something to happen and kept trying to like it. Like the scene where the coroner-guy says “F$%^!!” over and over and over when he is injured. Come on! You wasted three minutes of screen time on that loser. It was better in the preview.

i liked the film. It’s certainly not the greatest Halloween sequel, but i enoyed it more than Resurrection and H20 (just my opinion). Too bad Loomis was almost irrelevant to the plot (except for indirectly leading Laurie to find out who she really is and for showing up, at the the speed of light, at the Myers “shack”).
BTW what happened to Loomis’ line about Michael being “more evolved”?? It was in the trailer but not in the movie.

I agree they should’ve explained how Michael survived a gun shot to the head. I mean, he was pronounced dead at the scene, then simply walks out the coroner’s van.

Perhaps the “White Horse” concept has something to do with this. The opening quote seems to suggest that Laurie released some kind of powerful “emotional force” that willed Michael back to life, and kept him alive through her dreams/nightmares “with ensuing chaos and destruction.” In the film, Laurie and Michael also seem to share a psychic bond (H5 style like with Jamie).

I thought the final scene was well done, very surreal. Laurie locked up in a sterile asylum and her mom and the horse coming down the hall to meet her, accompanied by a variation of the original musical score.

I did enjoy it I will say that.
