If you look at this blank, the eyebrows are sculpted into the mask.
They recast a '75 Kirk for this version, retooling a few features. The mask shrunk from recasting, thus the neck extension. Because they used a Kirk base, I suspect they copied the hair and sideburns from the original mask that they had on hand.
The eyes change a few times, probably to help the actor perform.
maybe they cut the eyes very low and down into the cheek sections, and that’s why it looks like the eyebrows are so high.
definitely a tricky mask to make it’s turning out. I’ve done a lot of 1’s and 2’s but I’ve only done one h4 and now I’m doing my second and I’m still finding things about it to be sort of tricky.
I also wonder if they glued in some black mesh because the eyes look totally black in every scene.
The eyecuts are cut a little low into the cheeks on that version, but not on the hero. When observing the hero you can see that the cuts even come up into the natural brow bone of the mask, not much lower. They aren’t painted on higher, its the retooling that was done to the mask that made it what we know as the H4. Same reason it has a warped nose and deformed ears, it was a quick sloppy retool done fast when after production requested them from DPS.
