Is Halloween 5 really that bad?

The negative backlash this movie gets always puzzled me, I used to watch this sequel religiously whenever AMC had their Halloween marathon back in the day. Sure, I understand the film is a bit of a mess and that it was the start of giving Michael a backstory instead of Carpenter’s analysis of Michael just being pure evil with no rationale but I’ve always liked the mood this film gave plus Michael’s dedication to try and kill Jamie always terrified the hell outta me as a kid.

I actually like it. I thought Myers watching Tina and Sam in the house was creepy, as was him inside the house stalking Rachel. Not the best Halloween movie, but I enjoy it.

It’s not the best. It has a lot of problems, but that doesn’t stop me from watching it when it comes up when I’m watching the franchise.

I actually really like it.

It certainly has it’s downfalls (Tina and the Myers house) but it also has some strong points. Myers looks creepy, he stalks his prey before moving in, Loomis is great and Danielle Harris is great.

I always enjoy watching it and can overlook its downfalls.

It’s a train wreck but that doesn’t mean you can’t like a train wreck. I enjoy all the sequels apart from H8.

The Myers house is gothic looking which is strange. The 2 cops have cartoon music playing whenever they are onscreen which ruins the movie for me. The start of the Thorn story doesn’t fit well. I don’t really like this one and haven’t seen it in years. I might watch it this year.

Its one of the weaker entries in the franchise although I personally like it more than h20 or resurrection.

I’m a fan of Halloween 5. But that’s coming from someone who sees Halloween 6 as there favorite it’s all in what you like honestly.

Very underrated film.

It’s a bad movie. I don’t think there’s any denying that. But a lot of the films in the franchise are bad. However, none is without its merits. H5 is one of the very worst IMO but it definitely has its high points.

Personally i think it’s the worst sequel. There’s nothing i really like about this movie. Even Dr. Loomis character is over the place in this one. The 2 dumb cops, Tina, the mask, the Myers House, the mysterious Man in black, the lil annoying boy (don’t even know his name in this moment ), crappy intro to this movie…list goes on and on. Can’t believe myself that Resurrection was a better movie to me then this s@#$. Halloween 5 was way too soon out after H4. Just one year after. The whole movie suck.

As others have said, it’s not perfect but I enjoy it. I actually like Michael’s look, always thought it was super creepy. I like the overall feel of the movie too. I remember watching it all the time as a kid so 4 and 5 have just as much sentimental value to me as the original

I have the same problem with the bumbling cops music. To this day I still can’t believe that anyone involved in making it thought that would be a good idea. The bottom dwellers of the franchise are all pretty bad in my eyes, but Part 5 edges out Resurrection and Rob Zombie’s H2 to earn the title of worst of the bunch.

Halloween 5 is not a good movie, but I do have nostalgia for it. I grew up watching it on AMC’s fear fest every year at Halloween, so I can still watch it, but as time has gone on, I’ve realized that H5 definitely has some issues. Dr. Loomis is off his rocker in this one, even Donald Pleasence himself said he didn’t like what they did with the Loomis character in H5. They kill Rachel, a great character, off early in the movie, and proceed to replace her with what is probably the most hated character in the entire franchise, and possibly the horror genre, Tina. The fact that Jamie can’t speak for most of the movie combined with the stuttering boy is weird, don’t even get me started on how cringy and hard to watch that “cookie woman” scene is.
The Myers house is a mansion now, which is just another oddity to add to the list. Also, you don’t care about pretty much any of the characters because they’re all so annoying and unlikeable. The cult of Thorn nonsense with the man in black, which was something they just randomly thought of to put in the movie on set, and decided to let the guys on H6 figure it out, it’s terrible. These are all my main issues with H5. Really, this all comes down to a director who as far as I understand, was not a fan of the franchise, and had never even seen the other movies, and therefore didn’t understand what Halloween is, or who Michael Myers is.
Now, here’s what I do like. I like the mask, I always thought the eyes were creepy, a little odd, but creepy. However, I don’t like the super long neck and slicked back hair. This may come as a surprise, but I actually don’t mind the silly cops. I know they have no place being in a Halloween movie, but I always got a laugh out of them regardless. I like the air vent scene where Jamie is inside it, while Michael stabs it.

It’s a guilty pleasure for me. Definitely not one of my favorites but I watch it every year nonetheless. The entire Thorn trilogy is confusing but I’d order them 4, 6, 5

I personally like it.
