I love Dave Mcrae’s videos, and I totally get what he’s saying here, but I don’t buy into any of that at all. I feel like it is purely a coincidence and nothing more. There may have been hints to Black Christmas , but Halloween is entirely it’s own thing if you ask me.
Agree 100%. I’m thinking there was a tad of inspiration, but nothing beyond that.
This is what Wikipedia says
The problem with that is Irwin Yablans was the one who came up with the entire idea of setting the film on Halloween, and then he proposed the idea to John Carpenter. In my honest opinion, Bob Clark possibly said all this after Halloween’s success. In other words, made up the whole story to take some sort of credit for Halloween. I don’t know when Bob actually said this, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was years after Halloween’s release. I don’t want to say he’s lying, but that’s just my gut reaction.
Sam’s correct. Not only did Yablans comer up with setting the film on Halloween, but also the entire babysitter murders concept. If you check up on the timeline as well there was not likely any time where Carpenter and Clark spent time together during that period. When someone asked Carpenter about Clark’s quote Carpenter said it was baloney in the nicest way possible to not insult Clark.
Wikipedia is not a reliable source in many cases, it’s best used as a base guide to go and seek out information from better sources (not necessarily the ones in their annotations either).
Agree. We all know Halloween isn’t a sequel to Black Christmas. Just a cool theory to discuss. It’s one of those " Halloween is not a sequel to Black Christmas, but, just but if it was?
Cool post!
Carpenter did know Bob Clark. This was very pre-Halloween, before Assult on Precient 13, and when Carpenter used to write scripts to survive in Hollywood. They did talk about a sequel to Black Christmas and about the character escaping from an institution and going back on Halloween. That’s all that was talked about. It was almost a what if idea.

Yup, it was said Carpenter asked Clark if he was planning on doing a sequel to Black Christmas. Clark wasn’t interested in making a sequel, but if he did, the premise would be Billy escaping a mental institution on Halloween night. Not sure how true that is. But I firmly believe Halloween is not a sequel to Black Christmas.
Thanks for the response guys.
