It will vary depending on the thickness of the pull on any of them. They are close to the same size, with the H4 being the slightly smaller of the two. If all masks were the same thickness in the pull, it would be an even closer size comparison.
I have a few H4s, and two H40s, and the H4s are the smaller of the group. The individual size between each fluxes a bit too. All due to the thickness. One of my H40s fits a little more snug than the other, as does the H4s. I can tolerate and wear the H40s, but the H4s are just to the point of where I can’t tolerate wearing them for a long period. I have a 24" head, and so it doesn’t take much of a size difference to cross that threshold.
Overall, the H4s are just a hair smaller than the H40s, but if your head size is anything less than 24", it’s not going to be as apparent or noticable.
Acorad, bro, if you really want to know, I will send you an H4. You know what these threads lead to man, endless back and forth of “I’m right, your wrong” nonsense. Best way to find out is just get one in hand.
But if your willing to take my word, it’s not a noticable difference if your under 24" in head size. For me it’s a very slight difference, and most of it is due to the thickness of the pulls.
One other factor is the H4s aren’t as stretchy or forgiving as the H40s are for me, so how the latex comes out matters as well. So it’s a very similar size. Just these little tid bits here and there make the difference.
But yeah brother, the H4 will fit you well. If the H40 is a good fit for you, then the H4 might even be better. It should work out great. The eye mesh takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s the proper look and isn’t actually that bad once you get used to it. You can see out of it just fine.
All in all, I still say the TOTS H4 is probably their best and most screen accurate mask dollar for dollar, pound for pound, yen for yen, whatever your currency of choice is. It is perfect stock right off of the shelf without a need for rehaul.
One thing I’ve been wondering is how the TOTS H4 size compares to the size of the Ruby’s H4. I have the Ruby’s H4, and my head is 23.5 inches, yet it fits me pretty snug.
The Rubies is actually pretty similar in size, but more stretchy than the TOTS version. They are close. If I had to say one was smaller, it would be the Rubies.
Very true! If you could grab it off the shelf of a Halloween store just like Myers did in H4 and have it still look super screen accurate, and for cheap too, I’d immediately go for it, though I already have one.
They are close in size, so it would be hard to say since the thickness is going to play a part. But I just know out of the copies I have, the H4 fits smaller than my H40s do. Although that’s not to say I haven’t come across some H40s in stores that have the smaller fit, thicker pull and what not.
So really the only problem is having stores around to go try them on. All in all they are pretty close in size to each other, so it’s not going to be a drastic noticable difference.
Either one will be a fairly decent fit with breathing room at 21". Certainly not like the H78 which you would be swimming in at 21". That’s a large mask.
We hardly get the TOTS masks here in NZ, they double the price to cover shipping too, I’ve only found the Hellboy masks as well, so finding any Myers stuff is a pain, my Elrod and H6 I had to get from Amazon
I own two of each and it’s the exact opposite of this. The H40s are roomier than the H4s. As I said previously, they are close enough in size that it’s not going to be a noticable drastic difference. I think the moral of the story here is that with mass produced masks, it’s just a gamble as far as size and how they fit.
There have been countless threads on these and other mass produced masks centered around the sizing, and it never results in a consistent definitive answer. It always ends up with folks saying that some are this, some are that, etc. and essentially gets nowhere at the end of the day.
The only thing you can do is hope to find some in stores to try them on, or order some and hope for the best. That’s really the only answer I think everyone could agree on.
