Is this rot?

Bought a 2011 Creep off a member a while back that I wasn’t 100% loving so I decided to sell, showed a potential buyer (in this case for a trade) and he pointed out the black dots and asked if it’s rot. Now I’m far from an expert and I to would like to know if that’s what it is before we make a deal. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I actually don’t think it is, seems to match this black paint splotch.

Not rot, but maybe the start of it. If it isn’t black paint, then it is probably little spots of mold. I have a 99" blank in my closet and it has little mold splotches on the inside and some on the outside. Hard to tell from the pics though. Anyone else care to chime in?

That was my first thought but when compared to the above paint splotch it matches the colour exactly so I don’t think it is. But again I’m no expert.

Ill give my honest opinion and say it does look like the start of rot unfortunetly :frowning: I have an earley 2000s don post myers mask that wasnt taken care of and it has rot, looks very simular to what it looks like in the pictures you have shown.

It’s paint nothing more…i was the previous owner that sold it to him…not rot…does not chip away…crumble …crack or brittle…paint that’s all it is

Perfect! This was the reply I was waiting for. lol Not too mention I’ve only owned said mask for what, a month? That would be some pretty aggressive rot! lmao!

How would paint get inside of it like that? And why is it black?

No clue, but if the original owner says it’s not rot then it’s not. I trust him completely.

I own a ton of masks with paint inside.
It just happns.

It is paint.

My thought? He wore some kind of black makeup and it smudged off on the mask with his hands. Possible. Some people will put back around their eyes and maybe he got it on his hands?

Or he wore it and didn’t clean it out and it’s black mold.

I’d take a warm damp cloth to it and rub it gently, them pat it dry to see if it comes up.

I don’t think it’s rot per say, rot is just when it starts to fall apart because the rubber breaks down.

My theory is that when Justin was weathering it, he held the mask on the inside with his hand while there wad still paint on his fingers, if that makes sense.

I can’t speak for what’s going on with the mask in the original post, but I had a 2011 Creep that had very similar black spots on the outside of the neck area. There might have been some on the inside too. But in my case, it most definitely wasn’t rot, since those marks were there from the day I got it, brand new. These pictures were when it was brand new.
