Sad day for me and my Diablo- work. I recently moved and had ‘UPS’ ship my Diablo Mold. Well packaged and safely padded, I opened the box up this afternoon to find the Diablo Mold split into 8 different pieces. Some shattered to almost dust.
I was smart enough to pour one last mask, before it was shipped in case this happened, you may see the last copy ,it amongst the broken pieces.
Hang onto those Diablo’s - It’s an officially - Extinct Dinosaur…
telling from those pictures, it looks like a copy mold. did you not add any burlap for reinforcement? hate to hear it if that truly was your one mold for that mask. I recently moved as well and I’m about to have some of my stuff shipped out to me, so I’m gonna be sure to tell 'em don’t send it UPS!
Thanks guys, and yes it was the original Diablo mold, not a copy (why would i lie ?) Anyways. It woulndt have matter if i had 20 layers of burlap - the box was crushed by an elephant or something larger. I filed a claim with UPS, but that doesnt bring back my baby.
Maybe this does call for a new sculpt - but only if people want a new one. I’m not going to go through hell to make something nobody would want.
I will be willing - to try and salvage the pieces and try to do a claypress of the mess i have left here.
…I will not be doing plaster, but doing a silicone mold which means i could get some silicone copies for people thata would want a ‘new’ diablo in silicone if they choose. Other than that this is where i’m at.

You didnt made a mastercopy ?
Maybe you can try to put the broken pieces together with glue and close the lost parts with dental gipsum, then fill the mold (only the face area with NSP Medium - Chavant Clay) you can melt it and after it is cold you can work with it like normal clay, saves some time to rebuild your diablo …

I dont know the size of the Diablo mask /raw pull, but maybe it is still big enough to make a new mold from the blank, if the masks came out to small you can work with silikon , because silicon didnt shrink like latex !
It’s a bit more expensive but the best way to bring the diablo back …
Dang Della Torre I wished I had known you were using UPS to ship something so delicate. Were I work at we ship 5 days a week with UPS and this year it’s been horrible through them. I’ve been doing shipping for 4 years and so far this year I’ve filed 4 claims with them messing stuff up. When it comes to shipping something very delicate such as a mask mold I would’ve recommend FEDEX (never had a problem with them and they might charge a little more but it would be worth it) and or a independent delivery service. UPS is ok to ship things not so fragile (you have to write that on the package or they will use that against you). They will give you a bunch a BS about how you box was improperly packaged and what not. They really don’t like it when you tell them that the real problem was it was Improperly Handled. Yes I too have had to file a claim over a mask (mine got lost). It took about a month for me to get my money back but it didn’t replace my original mask. I’m so sorry dude.
As for making another mold for a mask, I would be interested in one but only if the mask would be around the $300 range.
I’m just so happy to hear and see that UPS was so gentle at shipping your package. I mean come on, there is no excuse for this kind of thing to happen…especially if you packaged it up really well. I’m really sorry to hear about this.

well you are a true artist though and if you decide to do another im sure it will be flawless like the last! you have the best sculpt IMO.

now, the plaster mold was your “master” ??? i just do not see that as being possible…you didn’t have a urethane or silicone master pull of that thing? also, with plaster molds, you cant do pulls off them forever, you have to make a new mold at some point, so what did you use for that?? there has to be a master, this makes no sense to me…
in fact, im making a new plaster mold today off my master urethane copy of my HE mask, because the last plaster mold was starting to break down…hmmm
yeah, I just dont see it either, and if by some crazy circumstances it was his only copy/mold of the mask, someone with so much work in a sculpt wouldn’t trust to ship it period…
