I wasn’t sure where to put this, and I’m sure the overwhelming majority will go to Michaels mask, but I wanted to know who’s mask you like better? The actual films aside. Do you like Jason’s hockey mask better? Or Michaels white shatner mask? Why? Do you think the masks complement the character? This can be just surfaced based opinion or dig deeper into why. Interested in hearing your thoughts.

I vastly prefer the Halloween movies but overall I prefer the general look of Jason more even though I don’t care for the films that much
I vote Myers.
Myers wearing a blank mask with emotionless features is, in itself, what tends to make Myers so eerie and unsettling to viewers. It allows audiences to project their own fears onto the mask and onto Myers as a character, in general. It acts as a blank canvas that slowly becomes covered in your internal fears. Much like the dead stare of a great white shark. Sometimes no emotion at all is more frightening than when something is intentionally designed to appear scary.
Jason’s goalie mask is really not all that frightening on its own. It’s only that it’s become such a pop culture staple over the last (nearly) 40 years that we relate it to something scary. At a base level, it IS a mask, and physiologically, anything used to conceal one’s identity can be unsettling. The goalie mask, while chosen a bit on a whim, just happened to work. Not to mention something about the three triangle formation on the original mask aided in the threatening look- which goes back to the early years of hockey when similar designs were painted to intimidate opposing teams. (Which, to go even deeper, can be said about many tribal and other historic masks from hundreds to thousands of years ago)

Good topic. Personally, I would have been more scared of someone with a Michael mask thank a person in a hockey mask. That second mask is just something you associate Jason with. The first one, on the other hand, is a synonym of something extremely frightening.
The Myers mask in H78 is just freaking creepy looking. Jason’s mask is just your basic hockey mask. BTW, I actually prefer the sack mask from F2 over the hockey mask.
How does it look better ? I think a mask that was a plain mask converted into the mask we see in the film 
and that required a bit of brains and skill to make looks better than hockey goalie mask that took a shred of zero brain power to come up with and is as common as all the other bad imitation Halloween movies that followed after the original movie. I can go on further but I think the point was made clear

100% spot on. The Hockey mask is just that, a hockey mask. The Myers mask is a Kirk mask completely converted to look spooky/creepy/emotionless.
Exactly and I wasn’t trying to be purposely negative in my response , I’m just brutally honest and say it how it is. I mean not to mention the charscrer itself WE ALL KNOW is a blatant bad rip-off of The Shape anyway but that’s another topic in itself that’s been exhausted 1000s of times
I understand it’s a hockey mask, but it’s not really what I think of when I think of a hockey mask. I guess because I wasn’t around in the 70s. I think of the ones that look more like football helmets. Anyways…you don’t think Jason’s hockey mask is scary? Even if it weren’t associated with Jason. Just looking at it…it just doesn’t look friendly.
I wasn’t hard-core into Halloween until the 80s not the 70s…which was the same time period as Friday the 13th
Jason is an iconic character and I appreciate that fact, but when you try to compare the shape to it’s poor rip off imitation that dosen’t work for me. If there was no Michael Myers Jason wouldn’t even exist. Plenty of movies influence other movies like Pyscho influenced Halloween but Halloween isn’t a blatant rip-off of Pyscho. Jason is a blatant rip-off of Michael Myers and no i don’t find a Hockey mask scary
The hockey mask only looks scary with the full costume, whereas the Myers mask looks scary just by itself.
Both masks represent their franchises well. Who would of thought a mime mask and a hockey mask would work so well.
