Original Halloween director and composer, John Carpenter, has confirmed his interest in scoring the next Halloween sequel.

Carpenter, now famed for his work, returned to the Halloween franchise as both composer and executive producer for the incredibly successful recent sequel Halloween (2018) which was directed by David Gordon Green.

Halloween (2018) synopsis:

“It’s been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield, Ill. – but this time, she’s ready for him.”

Gordon Green’s Halloween is continuing to smash all Box Office records and has become the highest grossing slasher film of all time. With interest still high and thousands still making their way to the cinemas, Green’s Halloween has scooped $229.6 million (£174.54m) worldwide according to ticket receipts. The Blumhouse Productions film, distributed by Universal Pictures, has managed to reclaim top spot with its unprecedented success.

Now, off the back of its triumph, Carpenter has again made Halloween fans overjoyed with the confirmation that he’s ready to work on yet another sequel. In a new interview with CoS, Carpenter was asked about future involvement… to which he replied: “We’ll be ready. We’ve all talked about it. We’ll be ready.”

I’m honestly very happy to hear this. His last score on the H40 film was amazing and one of my favorite Halloween soundtracks to date. I love the idea of another film, I am just hoping it takes place on the same night and not dragged out 1 year later. But all in all I am super hyped for this and to have JC back on board just makes it all that much better.

Wow! :astonished:

I’m actually shocked to hear that there may be a sequel giving Carpenters age at this point. Hopefully it happens.

That’s awesome, he could have easily said he was out but glad he is showing interest in any future films. His sound track absolutely helped bring Michael back imo. Love to hear him on another film.

This reminds me of a comment I saw on an article concerning this. It said “John loving this 2018 money”

You would think he had enough money. Let it go, move on.

He gets to make some money and pursue a much more relaxing than directing artistic passion with his son and godson, it’s a win win for him. I remember an interview many years back with both he and the interviewer wondering why no one asked him to score any films despite so many admirers of his score work among filmmakers.
Would be cool to see Alan Howarth and Dan Wyman help out on some tracks as well.

Honestly though, he did a good job. I would want John returning to do the score more than I would want David Gordon Green returning to direct. The score was one of the better parts of H2018.

I realize money is a huge part of it,but still he wouldn’t do it if he wasn’t enjoying it. He had fun doing the music for the new film with his son, lately that’s how he has been enjoying himself.

Happy to have him for anything else if he’s willing.

I am happy that he wants to continue with these franchise!

I’d love for him to be more involved in the movie itself, and give the writers some more advice on how The Shape operates. I get why he acted like he did in H18, but would love for him to go back into the shadows and do some stalking in the next one.

That’s all it is at this point, actually since 1988.

We will see with this sequel if it is just a cash grab but I hope not. I loved the new score and look forward to hearing what’s next from Carpenter

I’m not sure they should do another sequel but it’s great news that John Carpenter will be doing the score.
