I debated on whether to write about this topic but I can never keep my mouth shut. I just wanted to take the time to talk a little about this community and the role it played in my life and how this news effects me personally. Not that any of you should care but it is an end of an era and something that I feel strongly about.
I started collecting masks when in was in my teens. From sites like the old Back Talk message board, Mask Maker forums and the HMA to the birth of MM.net I was their in the beginning and it fueled my passion for horror which still burns to this day. I owe a great deal to Derek for creating such a great place for fans to come and talk about what they love. I was obsessed with Myers masks, lol, as many of you are. I couldnât get enough. I have owned just about all of them. From Warlocks and McCainâs Kirkâs (damn near his whole lineup at one point) to CGP masks, Nightowls, NAGâs, my pride and joy Second Stab and tons and tons of Tramers (I wonât go into my obsession for Ben at this time).
The point is I got my start basically because of sites like this. Hell, HorrorBid tried to compete with the Myers market in the beginning (Derek won, lol) and itâs because of some unusual magic that goes on here. I laugh because of all the headaches the Myers crowd has given me over the year, I donât mean you fans either, just some of the behind the scenes stuff. I always wanted to start my own site and when I did in 2007 it was on the backs of sites like this that I based my site around. It was all I knew, it was what I loved. I just wanted to provide a place for fans and give my take on the genre.
It lead into what HorrorBid has become today. More of a news oriented site based on movies and the entire collecting world . I lost touch with many of my friends here. That I am sorry for. It is tough to keep any site a float in the beginning and it takes a TON of time and effort, therefore I began to drift away from my love of the âwhite maskâ. From the Terry Lambert debacle and everything else I just figured it was time for me to hang up my obsession. I used to visit MM.net hourly and then it become days and that became weeks but I still love to come back and visit and see what new is coming out or what fights have broken out, lol! The rabidness of this fan base still makes me smile to this day.
I donât lay blame on Trancas, as at the end of the day, it is their decision to do what the want with their property. It does sadden me though to see something I used to love so dear slowly die away. Will the passion ever end? Of course not, but this is a terrible blow. The quest for the âperfectâ Myers mask ended some time ago in my eyes so I am lucky to say I lived to see that day. I just hope the fire still burns in each one of you and you wonât give up on Derek or this place. There is and always will be something special about MM.net. No one can take that away.
I wish everyone of you the best and brighter days are sure to come, it canât get much worse. Itâs a true shame that the studios canât put out a decent Myers masks. Maybe I will live to see that day also. Maybe Trick or Treat Studios will do it. Or another company. If NECA can make a decent HOCK why canât another studio put out say a Psycho esq mask or a NAG. It will happen eventually I am sure. The heart of the community may be damaged but it still beats.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Just wanted to share some of my thoughts and thank all the guys and gals that helped my along my journey. There are too many of you to list personally but I do thank you all. It still puts a smile on my face to see some of the sig banners I made years ago still used here on the site. The blood tears mask on my current sig best sums up my feelings about this topic, thatâs why I choose to change it. Keep your heads up and stay positive. Myers blood runs through us all.
Thanks again, Justin (BooMan)
