how come the scene with michael falling off the balcony changed from h1 to h2? h2 is more fake looking because you see him walking backwards up a ramp to the railing right as he is about to fall. why would they change THAT? i realize they took out tony morans face but figured that was because of money and or crediting him in part 2…
Yeah don’t know why they didn’t just use the footage from H1 on the balcony fall. It’s so cheesy and obvious with the ramp.
yeah, DW himself said he was embarrassed that they did that. Most likely because he didn’t want to mess with Jim Windburns work.
Because when you see the “Shape” lying on the ground from the original Halloween, that was filmed entirely at a different location and a different house than the Doyle so both of those house’s don’t quite sink-up properly to the front of the house. The original ending of Halloween was not the “Shape” lying on the ground then getting up…nope, that was decided a couple days later when they were already finished with the Doyle house location so they had to find a different location for the ending you see.
The original ending had the “Shape” dead, I have the footage for the original ending with an ambulance or some sort of Van with flashing lights…(We never got it transferred so we’re looking a it by hand.) but Malek doesn’t want anyone to see it.
Plus, more budget on the the sequel, why not show the falling of “Myers” at the Doyle residence. Hell, a crane shot opens Halloween II…never in a million years did anyone on the original Halloween fathom a crane shot.
Sigh…if the novel I’m working on were to hit big you can bet your arse I’d be helping fund this!!

You’re right…but where did I just read or watch Dean or John say that a Crane shot didn’t exist in Halloween?
If you own the footage what do you care what Malek thinks ? Unless you want to make money off it then it’s a differant story. Under the copyright law of 1976 you can show Pics or film for no profit. You could post the footage here for free and it’s perfectly legal. I’m going thru this now with Gene Simmons about a photo book I want to put out of about 2,000 never scene before pics of Kiss from 1974-1979 I bought from some one who worked for them from that time. Even Gene Simmons groupie pics from the 70’s.
Ummmm, it’s the original camera negative, it needs to be processed accordingly. I can’t just show it here, they could have the server shut down for various reasons that’s why we’ve made a DVD of the footage and showed it to some people. Don May, Jr. mentioned that he may, just may, transfer some of the footage into HD which will probably blow peoples minds. But, again, sadly Malek is the hold up…he doesn’t want the fans to see it.
My demands are very simple:
*A percentage of the worldwide profits of the releases of the footage (DVD, Blueray); there will have to be numerous versions of this, the footage is about 6 to 7 hours long and retain ownership of the transferred HD footage but Trancas can have the film stock.
*Don May, Jr. transfers the footage and completes a FULL documentary on the footage’s archival process and commentary by the Halloween crew of the footage.
Simple, little demands…but the fans would gobble this up like a chicken dinner.
We never got it transferred so we’re looking a it by hand.
Since it is a Panavision 2:35 image, don’t you need an anamorphic lens to stretch out the compressed image in the film strip?

I’m pretty sure Don May Jr. transferred a good portion of the footage to show John Carpenter a while back, so I’m not sure what this guy is talking about when he says that he owns the footage and it hasn’t been transferred. I think Billy was just pointing out he has some of the footage transferred not the whole box. Billy what do you need to make this happen ? Money ? Doc producer ? Or do you have to have Maleks permission to do anything once making a profit is involved ?
Dick Warlock mentioned in an interview that the reason they used a ramp was because he tried flipping over the balcony but kept landing on his front.The only way he was able to land on his back was with the use of a ramp.
Did you also notice that the balcony is on the front of the house, whereas in Halloween it was on the back?
I’m going to retcon this when I get around to editing H1 and 2 together for my own personal entertainment (currently making a H4/5 edit)
Damb good discusions here, finally a NEW love for this classic film! I truely hope to see more footage 1 day before my clock’s time runs out Mr. Kirk Magnum, and I will definately keep checking this site for updates!
