Got this KH/DW #17 from a guy on EBAY who had spayed it with white paint and added black paint to the hair. The white paint looked pretty bad, but the hair was done quite nice, so I decided to send it to JC. I requested an H1 look with a little bit of flesh, but leave the hair as is. Needless to say, that’s exactly what I got.
100% recommendation for JC and his work, great job bud, thanks . . . . . . . . .
Looks great…Its great that he does each mask to the customers liking…He gets all kinds of masks that are already converted from various people, but i have yet to see anyone have a mask redone that James has touched…After James touches it…Its done!
Thanks Swamp! I completely skipped over the text and just looked at the pictures. Bad habits!
I have to admit, I was a little iffy on this because I thought this mask was all original when it was sent off for the repaint… I was thinking: “Why in the heck would someone send off an original KH/DW and have Ken’s paint erased???”
Seeing as it was not original and had been badly altered, you definitely made the right decision to send it off for a repaint. It looks great! That thing is definitely a jaw dropper. Congrats Chris!
I figured thats what happened, I didn’t realize you deleted your post.
But you mean to tell me if you scored a, lets say a KH with the more grey soild paintjob, you wouldn’t send it to AHG for a repaint?
I feel like the days of keeping Myers masks in original form from the artist is pretty much over. It used to be something held high by collectors, but doesn’t seem to anymore. And why not, if you can make the mask more enjoyable for yourself. I kept my DB2 #1 in original form, but I always thought a few minor tweaks here and there would of really made it pop. I really just didn’t want to put it in the mail, and while I considered it, flying to Canada for Mike or Colin was out. It wasn’t until after I sold it that I found out JC lived much closer to me than I had previously thought. Dumping gas on stray cats to watch them burn doesn’t describe how pissed I was about that. My own fault though.
Though of course there are always the few masks you wonder my someone touched em but what can you do.
Kris’ NMM78 is a great example though, I thought it was great as is, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say what he had JC do to it really brought it to another level. It is a gamble though.
Zeph didn’t mean to highjack.
That’s my old copy you got there Chris. I bought it from it’s original owner Russ Lukich back in 2004 I believe. JC did a great job at bringing it back to life but I can’t believe the previous owner saw fit to tamper with the original work. This mask was brilliant as it was. I’ve never had a better Myers mask since or before…completely H2 in every way. Here’s a shot of the original paintwork.
