Hey all, I got here a Kirk mask in the mail today and I’m eager to start working, I’ve drawn a stencil on the left eyehole but I can’t find any good photos of the right eye hole side of the hero mask, so I don’t feel confident in starting it yet. Maybe you guys have any ? Would be greatly appreciated
Thanks very much to those that chimed in so far. Here’s some pics of where I’m at with that shape of them, any tips would be great on what improvements I should make before i take the scissors to it. Also I had no idea how big the tots Kirk mask was gonna be…the thing is huge!
Thank u sir, I’m excited to get him painted. I’m debating if I should just commit to doing it the proper way and airbrush the white on mixed with latex, or do it spray can style like the og. More updates coming soon
gonna be a little while now before I have any further work done on the mask, not to be too redundant But I’m super stoked to finish this guy. the potential of this mask really comes to life after some hair styling and cutting out the eyes
Can someone let me know what ratio of acrylic paint to mix with liquid latex before applying it on a mask with an airbrush? Also is it okay to paint over the existing Kirk flesh tone that the tots mask has
Wipe the surface of the Kirk with a solvent. I use alcohol wipes from Walgreens. This will roughen up the sealer on the TOTS. Use 50/50 paint/latex, and thin the mixture with ammonia until it’s just a little thicker than milk.
Also, I dont suggest using stock white. I add an i_ncredibly small_ amount of brown and yellow. And by small, I mean less than what would come out of a water dropper per every ounce or so of paint.
Just finished up whitening the face, better pics to come soon. This was my first time converting a Halloween mask, and I recommend any one try it out because it’s super fun. I think I’m going to mostly leave it a raw clean look and just let’s shadows do most of the work because it throws off such a potent 1978 Halloween vibe, how do you all think I did ?
Looks good, just the left eye(right eye when you’re wearing it) is a little crooked, the bottom right of it should be trimmed a little more for a more even shape.
Also I think the original mask was spray painted “fish belly white” according to Tommy Lee Wallace, however when explaining he forgot to say what finish he used, since he didn’t address the shine affect which wasn’t in original 1st two movie masks.
Thanks, and yeah I might touch them up a bit more when I get a small drill file. The hero eye cuts aren’t an even shape and each eye hole isn’t symmetrical to one another which I was trying to replicate when drawing them on.
