Latex Mask ear hole punch......

Does anyone out there know what I need to use to make ear holes in a latex mask. This is the thin pull TOTS Myers mask I am talking about. I would like to make them oval like the actual hero mask. Thanks!!

Scissors, cutical scissors either or will make the cut. :myers:

Something sharp.

take a close look at the hole in the schoolyard pic…the hole is round…

I did look at the schoolyard picture and I decided not to go by that picture as I found out that the mask worn in the picture is the stunt mask not the hero mask. Then I found footage on You Tube of the hero mask taken in June 1996 and I can clearly see that the ear holes on the hero are oval shaped. Further, I have seen many KM/DW masks that have the same ovalish shape to them. So I went by those two sources instead. And yes I did cut out the ear holes no problem after filling the original holes.

That’s good information! Can you PM me the link for that YouTube vid. I love looking and comparing different angles and views of the HERO!

Thanks!

I sure will WOOTS!!

I sure will WOOTS!!

There technically wasn’t a hero and stunt mask like you would think of it now. The just got three masks tore the side burns off, spray painted the face white and the hair black. That’s it. That video you are talking about was of the mask dick warlock owned and at that point it was badly rotting and melting. Judging the original shape of the mask from that is next to impossible since, time gravity, and the latex breaking down really messed the mask up.

And the KH/DW, tho a really nice and accurate (imo) mask, it is a replica and Ken did take some liberties when making it. You can’t disregard a screen worn mask (regardless if you want to call it “stunt” or not) and regard a replica made just a tad over 20yrs later. There were 3 masks all conversions with pre cut ear & nose holes by some schmeggeggie making $1.10 an hour at the DPS Compound. Real stunt masks are made to resemble the hero for far/fuzzy shots involving a stunt and made durable. The school scene was close enough to see ear holes, that is now a hero prop.

Looks like you will need 3 masks and match each one or you will never achieve a true state of Nirvana.

Not exactly. However it would be my dream!! LOL
I do appreciate your input of course and everyone’s is valuable on here. I was mainly using the 1996 footage of the Hero owned by Dick Warlock and also look at several 1975 DP Kirk masks for the correct shape and location of the ear holes on the mask. They all seem to be oval in shape and right next to the front of the ear pretty much where our ear holes are. TOTS had the correct shape more or less but they were way too low and in the center as well. My TOTS modifications I made to my mask duplicates the mask in the infamous Warlock picture of him wearing the mask and holding up the coke can during filming of Halloween 2. I will be showing pictures of my mask shortly.

Thanks.

My only issue with this thread other than being frivolous is the tots mask is not close to being accurate to the original mask, its more based Off of the h4 cover. Any true comparison to any kirk now a days should be for minor reference since your talking 2 completely different masks as well as age has affected all of the originals. If you want to nitpick a repro mask then something along the lines of a 99 shat would be a better subject, since its laser scanned from an original. If your happy cool but there is nothing wrong with the holes in the mask since they are literally cut by Joe shmo in a second, even on the original masks.

I thought the TOTS was based off the Lunatic, which is based off of the shot of Myers beneath the red light:

Looking at the 1 or 2 copy kh might be as close as you will get. The holes aren’t going to make a big difference in the overall look though.

I believe it is the lunegic but that mask has always resembled this more than what was in H2. That isn’t to detract from the mask since it is still a great piece.

I totally disagree the TOTS Halloween 2 mask is very close to the hero mask after the age and 3 years of rotting. You name the detail it has it. If one stretches out the mask or stuffs it it looks exactly like Warlock in the pic with the coke can in 1981
It has the exact thickness and thin pull latex of the hero mask as well as the correct hairline, replicated rotting and correct head circumference. Chris Zephro himself had an actual 75 DP Kirk mask in the studio during the making of the masks back in 2012. He personally wanted and these specifications though. And correct since Joe Schmoe punched the ear holes in the ears on these masks the location is inaccurate and needs modification.

what lol zephro maybe referenced the mask for production purposes but the sculpt was done years ago lol Justin sculpted that mask well before tots was even around. Like I said your probably the only person that could care about ear and nose holes, much less enough to put the effort into changing them. If it helps you sleep at night more power to you man, but looking up my 10 mask noses I really could car less enough to study them, same goes for the ear holes. lol

This “issue” also didnt warrant 2 seperate threads

I love Chris dearly, but I gotta say, if there’s one thing he’s not known for, it’s sculpting. Justin Mabry sculpted it. And a tad before 2012.

Sorry I care about details and screen accuracy. If you do not then no problems man. I am well aware of the lunatic however my point is the pour of these mask could have been thicker or different than the hero mask was or even the original lunatics and the pull is the same exact pull as the screen used. Same thing with the hairline, the hair used on the mask any detail of how the mask looked in 1981 is there. It being from the lunatic the same sculpture only reinforces its spot on accuracy .
