Hey all, for quite a few years now I’ve been contemplating buying an H1 mask. Years ago I saw the CGP Creep and it sparked my interest. Wasn’t long before, in classic internet browsing style, I stumbled here on to this wonderful treasure trove of information and collecting. The lengths this community goes to is incredible. I’m not going to be getting into collecting several masks, I just want one amazing H1 hero representation that I can stare at for the rest of my life. So I’ve just placed an order with Nik for a 98 proto, and I’ll be having it finished by Rowland Kelly. Very excited.
Anyways, on to the actual topic of this post…I’ve decided to go all out and put together a life size of Michael. I’ve been checking off items on my shopping list of screen accurate stuff for the build, having only the boots remaining. So now, while waiting for all these things to arrive I’ve been obsessively thinking about what kind of pose I want him to be in. I’m spending all this money and going through all this effort so I definitely don’t want your generic stiff mannequin pose. I want to be startled each time I enter the room where it will be on display.
So I’m reaching out to the wonderful folks in this community to ask, in everyone’s opinion which scene “pose” I should attempt to recreate. My initial thought, as I suspect many will agree with, is the famous head tilt pose. Though since it was shot from his side, I’m wondering if it might look odd looking at it from what I suppose would be Bob’s POV. My close second is the momentary top of the stairs pose, after Laurie takes her tumble. Looking forward to hearing people’s input, thanks in advance!
for my H1 mannequin I wanted to make a bend in the arm so it could be displayed holding up the knife, the reason I didn’t was because I couldn’t find a spare mannequin arm that would fit and I didn’t want to try to alter the original in case I messed it up, I still think it would make a cool pose though if you can find a spare arm.
would you happen to have a picture? I’d love to take a look if you are willing to show it! I have some fabricating skill and happen to be decent at fiberglass work, so I’m feeling confident ill be able to modify a mannequin to whatever pose i settle for
first image is old and just to show you the hands holding the knife, the first pic is a creep mask and big mac coveralls, the last 2 images are what it looks like now, I swapped the mask for the “ID” mask and changed the coveralls.
If you have a 2 story house maybe have him looking over the railing of the stairs. It might not be the best idea since you can’t see him from the front but have him looking out “Judith’s” window like in Halloween Kills is another one.
I’ve narrowed it down to either of these three. I’m leaning towards option 1 as it’s such an iconic image. But part of me really likes the stop of stairs as well. I’m really trying to go for a hyper-realistic look with this, as opposed to just throwing the outfit on a stiff mannequin. I’ll be doing a lot of custom work for this, especially making super realistic-looking hands. The hands in my estimation are the most important thing to really sell that realism as its one of the only parts of his body exposed. I came across a really dope cosplay youtube guy who did a life-size 2018 Myers and it came out so crazy good. This is basically my goal for the project.
yes the cosplay Chris 2018 hands look very good but I’m not sure if he still makes them anymore, I was hoping he was going to do the same thing for a 78 Myers mannequin, the hands on my mannequin and most Myers mannequins I’ve seen are handiboy studios knife wielder hands, you could also try going through the process of casting yours or someone else’s hands like cosplay Chris did to make the 2018 Myers hands.
yea he actually recently did a video explaining that he stopped selling them on Etsy for the time being because they are a lot of work and he wants time to focus on other projects, he did not however say whether or not he’d be re-listing them. I’ve been searching endlessly for really life-like prop makers and reaching out to see if they can do affordable commission work. I have a few that got back to me that seems reasonable, I’m just really worried about the knife in hand looking good. I think I’m going to end up casting hands of my own. I’ve been researching the process, it doesn’t seem super simple, but def doable, and as I said I do have some prior fabrication experience. It’ll also prob be a lot of fun, but we’ll see.
nice, if you make hands of your own I’d be interested to see how they turn out, there are also wooden articulated mannequin arms that could be useful for posing the knife picture although I would have to figure out how to mount them and if they are big enough first, here are some more pictures of the mannequin in red kap coveralls as I prefer them to the big macs I have, its holding the 2018 knife at the moment because I forgot to replace it with the old one.
that looks pretty dope. Hands are pretty good too, those are the handiboy hands? Are they foam or silicone, I haven’t been able to find any detailed pictures of them. As I said the hands are my number one concern since it’s really the only way to really sell the realism. Most foam or even silicone hands I’ve seen are either too flimsy looking or just don’t have great paint work on them. The few production places that have gotten back to me are reasonable in price, and seem to do pretty nice work. Im just worried that ill pay for and receive them to just not have them looking as I want. Really with the knife hand. As cosplay chris talks about in that video, and hand holding a knife has different wrinkles and details to it, so he actually casted the hand whilst holding a knife handle. So that might be the route I take. Still waiting to speak to some of these places in more detail though. I’ll def keep updated and post some pics when I get started on the project.
they’re latex, https://elvisechoe.wixsite.com/themaskpit you can see what they look like on that site, they are not ultra realistic or anything, if you get up close to them you can see imperfections in the latex but they look pretty good for what they are, unfortunately I haven’t found anything else that passes for realism like the hands cosplay Chris made for the 2018, you could maybe try to message him and ask if he plans on doing a H1 version in the future but he may still be busy with other projects.
I can’t believe how hard a time I’m having trying to figure out what pose I want him in HAHA. Was really leaning towards that balcony scene, now I’m leaning more towards the top of stairs stance, as I can portray more of a stalking look. god, I hate being a perfectionist.
