Completely disagree. I’ve failed to ever see a nag 98 proto replicate the look of an original Kirk more than the hmk, or even the masks Mabry made with the kirkus mask. especially something about the nose area on those masks that descend directly from a real Kirk are just sharper and overall way better formed.
While it is true that we cannot obtain a real 75 Kirk, we have some incredible replicas from various people. Here are some, with the name and a little bit about it:
NAG Masks: (You can message Nikos directly for either a finished copy, or to send a blank to an artist on his verified list.)
NAG 98 Proto - The 98 Proto is a direct 3D scan of an actual 75 Kirk. It is a fan favorite among collectors as it is in many individuals and collector’s opinions that it is the closest to replicating the Hero mask from 1978.
NAG MMK - An underrated mask to say the least, the NAG MMK, most popularly known as the NAG Movie Mold Kirk, is said to be a direct cast off a 75 Kirk from the same mold as the Hero mask.
NAG 75K (Castle 75K, New Mold 75K, Supreme) - The NAG 75K is another great replica from NAG. There are many variations of the NAG 75K, particularly the popular NAG 75K Castle (Built-in Castle Stretch), NAG 75K Supreme and the NAG 75K New Mold.
A few honorable mentions from NAG Masks are the PS78, the Kirk Stretch, the Nightmare UL and the RareR.
Spookhouse Props: (You can message Jimmy directly for his prices)
Spookhouse Productions “The Original” - This year, Jimmy released his ground-up sculpt, “The Original”. He took much inspiration from his original 1975 Kirk Prototype mask, and sculpted 3 different variants of the mask, the original 75 Kirk look, the H4 Hero look, and the Modern Day Hero look. Jimmy finishes the masks himself as either a Kirk, an H1 or H2.
Spookhouse Productions/NAG “10/31” (DISCONTINUED): The joint efforts between Jimmy Falco and Nikos Dresios helped give the community the limited edition mask, the 10/31. It is said to be a direct cast off the 75 Kirk prototype that Jimmy owns today, in which that mask came from an original 1975 Captain Kirk Mold. It is currently discontinued.
NightOwl Productions: (You can message Justin Mabry or buy a mask from his website.)
Nightowl Creep/Shat: The Nightowl Creep/Shat is said to be one of the most accurate masks to replicate the look of the 1975 Kirk. Justin got ahold of an 1975 Kirk and casted the mask, which he then poured clay into the casting and put the cast into clay, which he then sculpted the Myers eyes onto it. He also sculpted Kirk eyes into the Shat sculpt. The Creep and Shat can be finished as either a Kirk, H1 and H2.
In my opinion, if you are looking for the closest mask to replicate the 1978 Hero, I would go with either the NAG 98 Proto, the NAG MMK or the Nightowl Creep. All 3, if rehauled properly, are amazing replicas to the 1978 Hero. Hopefully this helped!
And that’s fine to hold that opinion. The problem with Justin’s masks are the kirk eyes. The mask they come from had them cut out and he hasn’t quite nailed the recreation of them yet imo. Again, the hmk has a wonderful face, but it’s totally ruined by the placement of the face onto the new sculpt (plus the fat neck)
First, I want to say thanks to everyone who has chimed in regarding this thread. It’s so nice to have information from people that are well educated on the matter. Secondly, special thanks to Jay X for the fantastic write-up. Thanks so much for taking the time, I really appreciate it and your list is extremely helpful.
It seems to me there are strong opinions regarding the matter and that’s cool. I like the differing viewpoints. I’ve narrowed it down to a few masks and hopefully I can land on one soon.
I’m super bummed to hear the 10/31 is no longer in production. That mask looks the way I remember Myers looking when I was a kid… at least in the photos I’ve seen online. Also, the HMK being hard to find is a bummer, too. It’s a drag being late to the game. I wish I would have let myself be OK with my HalloweeN obsession sooner. I always kind of thought I was weird for liking the movie so much, and didn’t really let myself enjoy my fandom like I wanted to.
Oh well.
Thanks again, everyone! Keep the opinions coming, I enjoy reading them.
The nag nightmare also is pretty much a 2nd gen kirk if u can get the eyes cut out right the nightmare is one of the cleanest kirk based Myers I’ve seen. That has kirk lineage anyway. And thanks cold blooded my dude
I’m also pretty into the Nag Nightmares & Rares… really look like the real deal…
Medley Kirk lineage I also really gravitate to myself: HMK, DIY, etc… If you have accuracy concerns, you can always verify for yourself using computer overlays, and stencil tracing to truly confirm reality. The profile is often overlooked and disregarded for some reason… such a major thing to take into account too.
I know ppl get tired of hearing of JC LOL but there’s a specific nightmare copy he finished a long time ago and I still just go back and look at the photos of it cuz it is so good
I would’ve got a 98 proto, but I heard the price is a little more than others and I’m on edge especially reading on here about Nag masks rotting quicker than other masks.
