Hi all, just wondering what you guys think the next best thing is to the 78 Case 102? I wanna get a vintage 12" blade knife for my display, because the Case 102s are superrrr hard to find. The Dexter’s look more accurate to the Case over Lamsons.
I’d like to plug my own replica, but I think you already know about it. So to answer your question it sort of depends on what your budget is. If you’re comfortable sharing what your top-end is I can help you find one that is the absolute closest. I have a REALLY good idea of what is available out there at the moment.
He has a dedicated thread, but long story short, he mods true vintage knives to the specs of the Case, and will use the accurate woods for the grips and put the stamping in the correct spots as they were done exactly the same to the real ones, he had to use some artistic alterations though to avoid copyright stuff
I would love to own one of your replicas, but am just currently priced out at the moment. (Nothing against what you’re asking for). Just want to see what my options are for the next best thing.
Yep, I understand. I assumed that’s what you meant. I was asking what your budget is so I can help you find a really good alternative. If you’d prefer, PM me what the top-end of your budget is and I can point you in the right direction, if you want.
I make a replica using a REAL 50+ year old carbon steel chef’s knife. All of the components I use are accurate to the original. Wood, “rivets”, dimensions, and insignia (including the font), are all 100% accurate. It’s called theCHEF.
Here are a couple of links to give you an idea of what I make.
Waaaay back before the knife was ever IDed as a W.R. Case, I picked myself up a Dexter. Not really sure the model number, it’s kinda been rubbed away some.
