Looking for the best, most screen-accurate H1 mask, plus a ?

Hello All!

I’m looking for a screen-accurate H1 (1978) mask. I’ve seen several different replicas, but so far have only come across one that seems to have ‘it’, if you will (located here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NAG-WMP-75K-H1-Michael-Myers-Halloween-Replica-Mask-Don-Post-Kirk-Cosplay-/231149649771?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35d197bf6b)

I’m crazy enough to drop $850.00 on a mask, but was hoping to find some info that might lead me to one either just as good or better for less $$$. Any info pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I have an H2 replica that looks pretty good (pictured below), but I’m looking to put together something original from part 1.

Oh, one other question, and forgive the noob-nature of it, but what exactly does “hero” mean or stand for in terms of referencing the legitimacy of an item? I’ve seen it used enough to assume it means “original”, but I don’t get the metaphor.

Thanks!

Hmmm, the best way to explain a hero is anyone’s guess. But I’d say it means the “signature” shot. For example in Halloween, it would be the “phone scene” right after he kills Lynda.

As for the mask you referenced on ebay…the price is a bit much, but I gotta say that Chris Morgan is probably the best kirk converter in the game. His eye-cuts are almost always 100% perfect, and I’m a huge stickler for that.

As for the “most” screen accurate to H1 that’s still available for purchase…you’ll find several opinions, but the general consensus is this:

NO (Nightowl) Creep (which I ordered and waiting for)
NO Shat
Just about any NAG as long as the eyes are cut right
And for some reason I’m blanking on others, but suffice to say that the talent has gotten so good in the last 5 years or so that you can’t really go wrong. A lot of people say the NAG MMK is “the” best, but I honestly can’t tell it apart from certain NO Shats and other NAGs, that’s how good they’ve gotten.

And BTW, welcome to the board!

Hero, in prop terms, is the the primary prop used in the film and thus holds the most detail on it. Hero, in a collecting sense, usually refers to an item that holds the most qualities of the Hero prop on which it is based.

First off…very cool picture with the three slashers playing poker. Good looking shot!

“Hero” simply refers to the screen used mask prominently displayed in the films. It doesn’t just refer to the Halloween franchise either. “Hero” could be used to describe any number of items in any number of films.

As for the mask you’re looking at: I believe that is member “lionel_luthor” 's 75K. Screen accuracy and “best” is all in the eye of the beholder, but it will be hard to top a 75K. I believe it’s one of the best replicas available. As far as pricing: I’m not much help there. I’ve only bought one mask secondhand, and ironically, it was from the exact person selling this mask you’re asking about.

Jake

Its called the Hero because Michael was the Hero in the movie. I cant remember who called it first either Carpenter, or Jamie Lee Curtis, It stuck, it was a joke at first, but its a fact.

take a look through the gallery and see what you like. You can also use the search function as there are many threads that ask this same question. Many folks like the NO Creep or a NO Shat conversion.

“NO” meaning “Night Owl”, and their Creep being for sale here, if you were wondering. Honestly, I don’t even think the sales pics do it justice.

Actually, technically speaking, he’s the anti-hero. Loomis is the hero, or at least he tried to be LOL.

Wait, so you mean Curtis or Carpenter coined the phrase that’s used in all movies now? I remember reading something that referred to Viggo Mortenson’s “hero shot” in Lord of the Rings. This came from Halloween?

Not sure if it was, but I do know that “Hero” is a very commonly used term in movie making to refer to the primary and most detailed prop. For example, a full-metal/wood prop gun that is the most detailed would be the “Hero” prop, while other ones made out of plastic, wood, etc are referred to as “stunt props”. I know I’ve seen the term used in Making-Of books that I have read.

No not all movies just the Shape in Halloween was coined the hero by both the director and the star. Actually Tommy Lee Wallace said it as well. I have about 5 documentaries and its a few of them.

As far as overall looks and accuracy, for the money go with a NO Creep, I have one and folks are right, pics don’t do it justice, also for that money, the creep is a mask you can have fun wearing and not constantly be in a state of panic on whether it gets “dirty” or not! Lol however for ME, a converted NO SHAT is by far the most accurate mask. Yeah NAG has some awesome ones out there, but to me they pull one or two scenes perfectly, but movie wise start to finish, shat it up man!!

Same ol Shat…never gets old :drinkers:

Its simple…kill the Batman… NO…go thru the gallery and look at which masks are available…then choose one and buy it…simple…always go with what you want…not with what anyone tells you to get…go with what you want…its always a choice…but being this your first mask I’m guessing go with something cheap first and if your willing to drop some bucks…I would go thru the classifieds…and or post a WTB…or just buy a blank and have a great artist do it up (for EX…JC…Freddy…Chris…Benny…ETC.) But its all up to you…have fun! :axe:

The mask you’re looking at is worth about 550 tops. You’d be a fool to buy it for 850.

He’s right…550-600 TOPS…850 is just trying to make a profit and who ever buys it is the FOOL to pay it…HONESTLY…order a 75k blank from NAG (Nikos) if you WANT…then send it to Chris at WMP…if you need help message me bud…I would be glad to help.

Thanks for all the responses and info. I’m swimming through every thing I can find. The only one that really jumps out at me in the gallery is the CGP 30th Anniversary mask. With filming Myers in the past I know that lighting is crucial in getting the true Halloween feel, so it’s hard to get a strong sense of accuracy looking at some of them that weren’t photographed with correct lighting. Some of the shots I’ve seen of the NO Creep are downright horrible. But, then I’ve seen pics and video where the right lighting has been applied and everything changes. So that one is definitely a possibility. By the sound of things I will probably be contacting the artists mentioned for conversion options as well. Trying to get it right first try.

Lighting example:

Random shot.

Second shot. Same mask/coveralls, different lighting.

Well the CGP Myers masks all have extremely thick latex almost like busts. They are not screen accurate as for as the pull of the latex or actual feel of the mask to what the hero mask was.

Oh man, you got that right. I remember my 2nd mask was the Killing Machine, and the “eh” feeling I had when it showed up in the mail. Tho I gotta admit the 30th anniversary addition is pretty cool, as is the Fear. As for prices, there’s just no excuse to charge more than $600 for even the best of the best. That’s just my opinion of course, but there’s something called taking advantage of the little guy, and I don’t go for that.

Anyway, last but not least…the essential item for a quality Myers mask is the way the eye holes are cut. For me that’s like 60% of it or more. One of the main “flaws” in otherwise great masks seem to be that some have the eyes spaced too far apart, even when the cuts themselves are done right. It’s sort of an exact science in a strange way. :drinkers:
Tommy Lee Wallace must have been standing under a full moon when he converted that kirk back in 78. :myers

Exactly man. Yet another thing I completely agree with you on.

Creeps can be shot right
